I was fortunate enough to try this stout on tap at Rockwell's in Grand Rapids, MI. I often look for a good chocolate stout as I was a huge fan of Grand Rapids Brewing Companies Milk Chocolate Stout before they closed.

Needless to say, I found one in the Odd Side Ales that surpasses the former GRBC's offering.

This beer came to me in a poured pint glass, so I was unable to see the pour, but it did leave a nice lacing on the glass about half a finger thick. At first sip, I fell in love! The creaminess of the first sip had the mouthfeel of angels dancing on my tongue! The chocolatey finish was like the most delightful dessert at the end of the world's best meal! The only aftertaste was that of a beautiful chocolate that lingered for just a few short moments and triggered my brain to require my hand and mouth to take another sip.

If you are a fan of chocolate stouts, I feel that none better exist! Bravo, Oddside, you have a life-long fan!

On tap at Old Chicago. Pours a heavy-looking, dense black color with the darkest of all browns only at the very edges of the beer when held up to the light. Small, khaki head with minimal retention and minimal lacing.

The smell of this beer was great - thick, sweet, dark chocolate fudge, roasted marshmallows, light espresso bean undertones, and an almost milky, sugary sweetness. Might be picking up some faint vanilla in there, as well. The nose on this one is really something, nice combination of sweet things without smelling too sickeningly sweet.

It hits the palate wet and slightly silky, just a touch thinner than expected for a stout, but then again, at 6% ABV it isn't exactly a "big" stout, so maybe I was expecting too much. The most dominant flavor is the coffee, somewhat surprising, seeing as how it was actually tertiary in the aroma. It's a dense, bittersweet coffee flavor - almost reminds me of the syrup they use to make Frozen Cappuccinos at Tim Horton's or Dunkin' Donuts, only much less sweet and a little bit more on the darker roasted side.

Heavy, roasted malts abound, along with some fading chocolate in the background, again, on the darker-fudge side of things, although there is a sweetness that strikes the palate without being cloying or over-done. Some light char and a slight, ashy, hop bitterness peeks its head in for a moment about midway through the sip, and then washes away in the coffee-chocolate abyss. A bit roasty and even a little woody on the aftertaste without some dry cocoa powder and old coffee left on the tongue. Medium carbonation, maybe even a little on the low side.

So this is maybe the third or fourth brew I've had by Odd Side Ales, all of them being on tap somewhere, and I've been thoroughly impressed by all of them. I would've liked to see a little more fudge and less coffee on the palate, but overall this beer was still pretty scrumptious.
