Sorry, I just didn't like this beer. Two sips and an unfortunate drain pour.
There is definitely a habenero kick to it, which lingers. The other components work against each othe, IMO. The mouthfeel is oddly smooth for a beer with this type of bite on the back end.

a huge shout out goes to jas45678 for including both the BA and regular version of this beer as extras in a recent goandpickitupformebro (believe it or not, this feind had the never to include even more extras). both beers enjoyed side by side from a hunah snifter (regular) and an abraxas snifter (BA).

a - regular version poured with a deep rich black as midnight sludge with a nice off-tan colored head that didn't hang long and left a ring of bubbles on the surface where the glass met the beer. swirling the glass brought it back to life and there was some spotty lace. the bourbon barrel version on the other hand, had a gorgeous shine to it. no head to speak of at all. more ominous...oooh ahhh
s - gorgeous nose. this beer can hang with hunah, mexican cake, the stone xoco...something or other. really great blend in the nose of rich chocolate with just the right amount of cinammon and spicing.
t/m/o - not as full bodied as i expected, but the flavor is there. a wonderful blend of chocolate, spice, coffee, cinnamon and nutmeg. super silky, super smooth...a bit on the thin side, but then again this isn't an imperial stout. great great great beer...definitely seek this out.

Pours nearly jet black except for some brown/reddish hue when held to the light,a minimal head atop.Aromas of french roast coffee with a hint of caramel.A little sharp in the feel, alot of carbonation for the style.I like the combination of flavors, chocolate,.dark roasted coffee, earth, caramel, and a big hit of chili in the finish which really hits home let me tell ya.Not very sweet at all,a earthy, roasted, spicy beer.

12oz bottle, no date. Pours black with a large sized tan head. Smells of coffee, chili peppers, and cinnamon; nice smell. Tastes like coffee and chili peppers, but it's pretty watered-down. It's got a nice spiciness though. Medium carbonation and thin body. Overall, it's got a nice smell, but the flavor is watered-down and it might be too spicy for some.

My first review so this will be brief and echo others....pours with a thin head which was a little surprising. Great chocolate and spice flavors with a perfect amount, for me, of Habanero on the back end. Very interesting drink that grows on you. Only negative, as others have noted, is the watery mouthfeel. Maybe not a go to beer that you always have on hand but certainly one to try and to savor on occasion.
I revised my rating lower and following are comments after a second go around...
Still a thin head, smell more alcohol this time. Not much mocha and spice seems odd. Less spice than a funny burnt taste. Still very watery mouthfeel. Liked it quite a big less this time around. Maybe just a different day and taste but probably won't try again.
