Notes / Commercial Description:
[13.5 deg. Plato 77% AA 30 IBU] [ABV ~5.4%]

"A subtle, maltier Amber ale. Crystal malts contribute toffee flavors and a deep Jacinth color. Rye malts provide a lightness that balances the sweet barley malt. We used Pacific Northwest Glacier hops in this brew to create a peppery, citrus aroma."

On tap a Prodigal Son 5.15.2010, $4 for imperial pint poured into nonic glass.

One finger white head, tiny bubbles, medium dissipation with above average lacing. Amber body, a bit hazy, not sure if beer is unfiltered, the glass was not chilled so I'm leaning that way, several trails of carbonation rising from bottom of glass. Fuggle like aroma from the Glacier hops, floral nose with some hop bitterness, pretty good balanced aroma. Taste is a bit nutty, much like an ESB, driven in large part by the use of rye malt, perhaps some caramel malt re sweetness, fairly bitter finish. Medium firm mouthfeel, slightly above average effervescence. The complex taste profile will cut into drinkability for hopheads, but I thought the use of rye malt was a nice touch. Worth a try.
