On tap in a tulip at Congregation Ale House in Long Beach, CA.

A: Slightly cloudy, pale gold in color. Nice one finger white head with slight traces left on the glass.

S: Smells of wheat malt with a slight spicy note of noble hops and coriander. A nice dry funky yeast note is present.

T: Taste of wheat and base malts is present up front. Slightly sweet and very crisp at first then transitions into a nice grassy/floral hop note. The yeast presents a faint fruity and peppery character. Not very funky.

M: Very dry and crisp. Refreshing and easy to drink. Perfect for summer weather.

O: Lives up to its name. It is a very sessionable beer, but packs in a good amount of balanced flavor. Not as funky of a saison as I would prefer, not a whole lot of tart/funk/brett character. A very solid beer from the folks at Cismontane.

Slight haze on the golden amber brew. Just a slight head in the pint shaker. Tingly mouthfeel.

Sharp and tangy. Lots of the meaty, savory taste. Salty with a scrape of bitterish hops. Surprisingly, it's quite sour and taste to me like a big brettanomyces takeover. The dry yeasty Belgian flavor finishes up the show. quite a bitter aftertaste. Thin bodied, but a big mouthful of flavors. Certainly worth a try for a quaff if you like the brett taste.

Another interesting lower-alcohol brew and another interesting, non-standard beer from Cismontane. On tap at the Neighborhood in San Diego. Tasted 10/29/2012 and transcribed from notes.

On tap at Haven Gastropub in Pasadena, CA.

Pours a clear gold with a foamy off-white head that settles to a film on top of the beer. Thick foamy rings of lace line the glass on the drink down. Smell is of citrus malt, grain, spices, and yeast. Taste is much the same with a mild amount of spice bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer that is drinkable but has a better aroma than flavor in my opinion.

Draft service into a shaker pint glass at the Cismontane tasting room in Rancho.

A: Slightly hazy, pale golden color with less than one finger of diminishing white foam head. Light lacing remains on the glass.

S: Generally mild, some base malt stands out, with enough sweaty sock to distinguish it from a similar looking beer such as kolsch.

T: Begins very dry, with bright lemon citrus and crisp pilsner-style malt. Citric acidity is high into the middle where mild phenolics are peppery. Hops are stale and herbaceous in the finish, offering a fine thread of bitterness that is well-focused but nuanced, rather than intense.

M: Thin viscosity, wet and slightly acidic on the palate, with moderate carbonation.

D/O: Another enjoyable and well-executed take on the saison style from the guys at Cismontane. Very drinkable, but with enough (perhaps more than enough for some of the session crowd) farmhouse yeast character to give the drinker pause.
