Though Thurmond’s grand Dun Glen Hotel burnt to the ground in 1930, this bottle churns with dark, decadent flavor much like that of the lavish hotel game rooms. Indulgent coal barons would hole up ‘round tables, getting lost in the game. These enthusiasts were legendary, redefining “all in” with a record-shattering 14-year poker game. Cause time don’t matter when you’re sipping to your own prosperity, and with this Dun Glen Dubbel in your hand, my friend, you have much to drink to!

The Dun Glen Dubbel was reviewed side-by-side with its barrel-aged variant.
This beer is almost clear dark copper (SRM 15-17) and slightly darker than the barrel-aged version.A thin, short-lived, fine khaki head quickly falls, leaving a thin veil and long thin patches of lace on a generic hollow stem goblet.
The aroma is rich with sweet malt, plum, and toffee notes. Warmth brings out raisins and elevates a slight old leather. After an initial pop, the aromas all become rather mellow. The alcohol and spice are less than the barrel-aged version.
The flavor is a little sweet, with light bitterness. Dark fruits and a bit of spice include plums, prunes, and cinnamon. Dates are another possibility and noticeable just before a long, mild finish. The finish is bitter-sweet. Overall, the flavors are milder than the barrel-aged version, less sweet, and, as expected, no whiskey.
The body is medium to full with soft carbonation and a soft, smooth texture. Alcohol is as expected, and starts to dry late in the finish as residual sugar is deposited on the lips. The body is fuller, with a softer texture and lower alcohol than the barrel-aged version.
This is a good Dubbel. I enjoyed it on a mild, sunny, winter afternoon, and think it will pair well with light conversation or while reading.
The Dun Glen Dubbel was bottled 5.Dec.2018. Ten months of additional aging may well be part of the difference between this and the barrel-aged version in the base-style distinctions.

Pours a cloudy brown color. 1/4 inch head of an off-white color. Decent retention and slight lacing. Smells of sweet malt, alcohol, wood, hint of liquor, yeast, and slight raisin. Fits the style of a Dubbel. Mouth feel is smooth and clean, with an average carbonation level. Tastes of sweet malt, slight roasted malt, yeast, slight alcohol, hint of wood, slight raisin, and a hint of oatmeal. Overall, weak appearance, but good aroma, feel, body, and complexity.

12.7 ounce bottle, no dating on it that I could find. Served in a chalice, the beer pours a clear dark brown color with a reddish tinge to it. There's also about an inch light tan head that stuck around a little while. Decent amount of lacing. Aroma is nice, the brew smells like caramel, dark fruit (figs, prunes), chocolate and some earthiness. I think the taste is pretty much just like the aroma, but there's also some molasses and candied oranges noticeable. Nice and malty! Mouthfeel/body is medium, it's coating and smooth with a good amount of carbonation. I thought it was a good, enjoyable dubbel. Certainly worth picking up! $7 a bottle.

Pours a dark copper brown, quite opaque with reddish hues; barley 2 fingers of head so that's disappointing for a Belgian style ale. Aroma is the best feature; plums, figs and brown sugar are evident. Flavor has less depth but do get lots of raisins. Good but i've had better for the style.

I'm reviewing as a porter/stout because it tastes much more like a porter than a dubbel to me. Excellent as a porter, but a terrible dubbel.

Pours dark brown with a medium head. Malt and caramel smells. Taste are malt forward with mild coffee in the background. Medium carbonation. Great finish, nicely balanced beer.

Damn, that's a great dubbel. You could have told me it's from Ommegang. There's juicy fruit notes upfront and then toasty cocoa grains rush in with a little orange dry berry flavors lingering. The body is a proper medium weight, still very drinkable. It's one of the fruitest dubbels I've had, but it's fantastic.
