Pours a cloudy brown color. 1/4 inch head of an off-white color. Decent retention and slight lacing. Smells of sweet malt, alcohol, wood, hint of liquor, yeast, and slight raisin. Fits the style of a Dubbel. Mouth feel is smooth and clean, with an average carbonation level. Tastes of sweet malt, slight roasted malt, yeast, slight alcohol, hint of wood, slight raisin, and a hint of oatmeal. Overall, weak appearance, but good aroma, feel, body, and complexity.

12.7 ounce bottle, no dating on it that I could find. Served in a chalice, the beer pours a clear dark brown color with a reddish tinge to it. There's also about an inch light tan head that stuck around a little while. Decent amount of lacing. Aroma is nice, the brew smells like caramel, dark fruit (figs, prunes), chocolate and some earthiness. I think the taste is pretty much just like the aroma, but there's also some molasses and candied oranges noticeable. Nice and malty! Mouthfeel/body is medium, it's coating and smooth with a good amount of carbonation. I thought it was a good, enjoyable dubbel. Certainly worth picking up! $7 a bottle.

Pours a dark copper brown, quite opaque with reddish hues; barley 2 fingers of head so that's disappointing for a Belgian style ale. Aroma is the best feature; plums, figs and brown sugar are evident. Flavor has less depth but do get lots of raisins. Good but i've had better for the style.

I'm reviewing as a porter/stout because it tastes much more like a porter than a dubbel to me. Excellent as a porter, but a terrible dubbel.

Pours dark brown with a medium head. Malt and caramel smells. Taste are malt forward with mild coffee in the background. Medium carbonation. Great finish, nicely balanced beer.

Damn, that's a great dubbel. You could have told me it's from Ommegang. There's juicy fruit notes upfront and then toasty cocoa grains rush in with a little orange dry berry flavors lingering. The body is a proper medium weight, still very drinkable. It's one of the fruitest dubbels I've had, but it's fantastic.

Appearance: Pours a cola color capped by an inch of foam; dotty lacing left behind

Smell: Tamarind and leather, with hints of prune

Taste: Tamarind and prune, up front, with leather, wood and cherry tones building, in the middle; dry, tannic finish

Mouthfeel: Medium body with moderate to high carbonation

Overall: The beer avoids the cloying sweetness that imperils lower quality dubbels but it doesn't achieve the complexity of the best examples of the style; still, quite tasty and in the upper echelon of American dubbels

Thanks, xJMFCx, for the chance to revisit

Bottle pour at Woodshop 8 held at The Hermosillo in Los Angeles, CA.

Thanks to GRG1313 for sharing this one.

Pours a clear dark orange-brown with a foamy dark khaki head that settles to wisps of film on top of the beer. Small dots of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, caramel, and dark fruit aromas. Taste is much the same with malt and dark fruit flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of spice bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp and medium bodied mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer with some solid aromas and flavors but nothing really stands out to me.
