From BeerAdvocate magazine Issue #60 (Jan 2012):

LOOK: Hazed golden yellow

SMELL: Lemon zest, strawberry taffy, doughy grain, yeast, wildflowers, rose water

TASTE: Clean grain, boozy, candied fruit, leafy hops, harsh medicinal herb, yeast, faint broth, dry, mineral, dried grass

Chaos in this bottle, but perhaps not enough to be given a demonic name. It’s certainly out there, and the flavors play off of each other quite well. We're thinking a nice stinky Stilton would work here with a bit of fig butter to create an epic pairing.

I haven't had any Belgians lately so a Triple sounded like a good choice for the night. I got this beer from Nate for Christmas. 2010 vintage. Poured from a corked and caged 750ml bottle into a mini snifter.

A- This beer pours a hazy golden yellow color with 2 fingers worth of white head that dissipated to nothing pretty quickly.

S- I pick up some sweet bready malts and Belgian yeast. I also get some cloves, coriander and bananas. Pretty good aroma.

T- I get a lot of spices up front from the Belgian yeast and some coriander comes through also. The banana carries over from the aroma nicely and blends well with the spices. Just like the aroma the malts are sweet and bready. The alcohol is noticeable but not overpowering.

M- Crisp, medium bodied, and medium carbonation with a slightly dry finish.

Overall this was a good triple. This beer stayed true to it's style and it had nice balance. I don't know how strong this beer is but if I had to guess I would say 8%. This beer went down pretty easy and the alcohol was barely noticeable. All in all a worthy triple that I enjoyed drinking, thanks a lot Nate.

Edit- August 2012- After drinking some of the latest batch, I have to bump up the score a little, the taste was a little bolder and more complex, and the mouthfeel was pretty close to prefect for a Tripel, so I changed the score accordingly. This Tripel has that extra something that made it pretty memorable. This is up there as one of best American made Tripel's that I have tried, overall a great beer that is highly drinkable.

An excellent Belgian-Style Ale, brewed in the unlikely home of a very good Belgian Ale...Southern West Virginia. Available in a hefty 750 ml bottle

A very big, well balanced beer that pours beautifully, with a huge white head. Nose is fruity/spicy. High carbonation levels are expected and help cut through the sweetness of the malt.

750 ml bottle, served in a tulip glass. Pours a clear, golden color with a large frothy white head, lacing throughout. Aroma is pale malt, apple, a light fruity hop, cloves, and coriander. Flavor is pale malt, bread, coriander, and yeast. Mouthfeel is light, fairly carbonated, dry and crisp.

Appearance is a cloudy, banana-colored beer, with a thin white head. I get a fair amount of lace; head retention is low.

Aromas have funky Belgian yeast spice notes, plus fruits and sweet malts, and a floral hop character.

The taste is full of rich flavors, with fruity and spice notes, plus some citrus tartness. Moderately sweet at the start and then some earthy hop bitterness comes into play.

Mouthfeel is highly carbonated on a medium body. The finish is initially fruity and sweet but is ultimately dry. Features some warming of the alcohol.

Thanks to Treyliff for the this craft brew from WV! Closing in on all 50 states...

Great to see someone brewing great strong beers in my home state. The color and aroma were classic tripel. It had a clean crisp taste with a slight winey bite but finished with a banana and clove yeast flavor.

Served in a 750ml bottle it was plenty to share with 3 people.

Can't wait to have more beers from Brodge Brew Works

I was lucky enough to have forgotten a bottle of this and let it age in the fridge for 6 months. On a warm day, I found it, sat on my deck by the Ohio River and poured a tall glass. The flavors had melded in such a way that all the flavors acted together to provide one of my most pleasurable drinking moments of 2011.
