L: Hazy straw with a thin white foam collar. S: Mostly wheat. Not much spice or fruit. T: A little bread, malt character is moderately light. F: Light, average carbonation. O: Drinkable but somewhat boring.

Got this beer in Mackinaw City..

Appearance - Pours a very hazy, yellowish orange color (like orange juice) with almost no head. Leaves a very thin lacing.

Smell - Has a very strong citrus aroma. Along with some coriander and clove.

Taste - Very spicy. Strong flavors of coriander and clove.. Pepper and citrus follow after. I'm sure there are other spices used but it's hard to decipher. Has a slight bitterness in the finish.

Mouthfeel - Medium bodied with high carbonation.

Overall - I haven't had a witbier in a long time.. This beer is much stronger than the others I remember.

Bottle shared with a friend. Picked up mainly because of the name. Heh.

Not much to say about this one. Pretty uninspiring, all around. Hazy, wheaty, barely straw colored body with a head that's gone in four seconds flat. Some clumpy yeast in the aroma with just a hint of citrus peel, orange zest, and clove... a HINT. Light, light, light - very hard to pull anything off the nose. The taste is similarly disappointing - it's very muted, and the flavor that *is* most prominent is spicy clove. A hint of orange peel in the finish with some dirty yeast aromas flowing side to side. Thin mouth feel, crisp from lots of carbonation, nothing to write home about.

As far as wheat beers go, this one is pretty mediocre. Nothing special, too boring, too plain, and not nearly pronounced enough. It needs a little more something to be noticed. I'm sure I'll never revisit this one.

I picked up a bottle of Mt. Pleasant's Wit Dream this week for $1.59 at The Lager Mill. It's another hot summer night in Mid Michigan so a Witbier sounds like a good choice. No visible bottling date. Poured from a short brown 12oz bottle into a Weizen glass.

A- The name is a little cheesy and so is the label, it looks like it could be a backdrop for a children's show. It poured a slightly yellow orange color that was brighter when held to the light and was a little hazy with one fingers worth of white head that quickly faded to nothing and left no lacing. This beer didn't look great, where's the head at?

S- It has a typical Witbier aroma that starts off with a good amount of citrus rinds the with oranges sticking out the most. Next comes some spicy Belgian yeast that imparts a medium amount of spices, like cloves, nutmeg, and white pepper. Towards the end I get a little more citrus rind with a slight bubble gum aroma. The aroma was ok and a little better then the average Witbier.

T- The taste is similar as the aroma but not as bold, it starts off with those citrus rinds with the oranges sticking out the most, next comes a medium amount of sweetness and some spicy Belgian yeast that's medium and imparts all those spicy aspects that I got in the aroma. Towards the end I get a little more citrus rind and a medium amount of bitterness. The taste was ok, but it was a little watery, pretty average.

M- Smooth, clean, fairly dry, on the lighter side of being medium bodied with a light amount of carbonation. The mouthfeel wasn't bad, but I could use some more carbonation, pretty average.

Overall I thought this was an OK beer and an average example of a Witbier, nothing about this beer really stuck out, it was full of mediocrity. This beer had ok drinkability and went down smooth, but the flavors can't hold my attention, so one is enough for me. What I liked most about this beer was the aroma, it was pretty complex and true to style. What I liked least about this beer was that is was pretty dull and nothing really stuck out as being well done and it didn't look that good. I wouldn't buy this beer again, I would much rather have an Oberon, no real need to try this beer unless you really love Witbier's. This brewery is known to be hit or miss and this beer falls right in the middle, it's average in every sense of the word.
