A barrel aged imperial stout made exclusively for our American importer, Shelton Brothers, who missed out on our first celebratory brew, Batch 18. Aged in American oak barrels for 6 months before release.

these guys have become the king of coffee for me, no acidity, rich earthy flavors, but still beer first. not easy to do, and this beer does it as well as any. its also a remarkably subdued 11% abv, you would just never know its that strong. jet black, one of the darkest beers I've poured, with a short and fading deep dark chocolate head. big bubbles. the nose is intense roasted barley, almost concentrated, maybe a real long boil or something on this, how do they get it so intense i don't know. the coffee plays off that, but there isn't a whole lot of bitterness in the taste, just that smooth earthy flavor we know from good espresso. gets a little flat on the feel when it warms up, but it almost drinks like a coffee by that point, so i don't wish for carbonation. amazing how well the alcohol is hidden, doesn't even show up when its warm. not super flu bodied either, not thick at least, not palate coating or syrupy at all. the oak adds a lot, and the price is fair under 14 bucks. highly recommended if you can still find one.

A: Black with a dark brown ring of head.

S: Nose is full of an amazing coffee smell, just short of my favorite, ethiopian fancy. Some light fruit and floral hops in then nose as well.

T: Fruit forward, definite coffee and roasted malt. All of this and yet it isn't overly bitter. Oak and vanilla as well.

M: Full bodied and smooth.

O: Delicious, and definitely worth a try despite the price tag.
