Pretty good selection of tap beers. A large bar. Had Sip of Sunshine on tap, which was a very pleasant surprise. Food was above average. Service was excellent.

Big place with a sports bar / old school pub feel. Service is fine, taplist is good, and the bottle shop downstairs is always worth checking out, and is pretty much the main draw for me. I haven't sampled their food, but it's basic pub fare.

sports bar feel. But their taplist and bottle list is long and has a lot of quality craft beers, both from local breweries and nationally distributed stuff. they have beer to go as well.

I came here for a private party in the basement, so this will definitely warrant another review of its own. Due to my time at Penn State Great Valley, I'm pretty familiar with the other Boathouse.

This one also has a nice beer selection. Dogfish Punkin', AB Wild Hop Lager, Harpoon IPA, Weyerbacher Simcoe IPA, Sam Adams, Smithwiicks, Chimay, Lindemans, and some of your typical fair. I may be missing other craft beers.

Food was good. But I really like the wings which were provided. Worth a stop. The one in Malvern seems like it has more space.

I have probably been to this bar about 300 times in the past ten years and it was one of the places where I discoverred better beer (yes, in the form of Tucher and Hoegaarden...you have to start somewhere). There are about 20 taps which include a lot more Macro than I would prefer, but they have at least 4-5 locals (recently Pikeland Pils and Victory's 10 yr Alt were amoung the pours) and some crafts mixed in (including Russian River). The bottle selection isn't bad either, they carry a few things that you can't find anywhere else unless you go downtown to the Foodery.

This is a sports bar vibe with more TVs than one could ever need. A great place for March Madness or Sunday football. The vibe is not beer geek at all, very few of the patrons will be hitting the craft taps. The service is not on par with many of the top flight beer establishments in the area. In fact, the majority of the bartenders know absolutely nothign about beer, so don't expect too much.

I love the wings and buffalo chicken cheesesteaks here. Colleagues and I frequently meet here for lunch and there is always something on the menu for everyone.

I defintely recommend this as a fun bar that will entertain your macro drinking buddies while you can also savor the wonders of a pint of Pliny (like I recently did). A worthy place, but not nescessarily a destination for beer knerds.

stopped in here for a pint and some grub after an interview in Conshohocken. Atmoshphere is pretty nice. Nice brick walls and high ceilings with a bunch of tv's over the bar broadcasting various sporting events. 15-20 taps. A majority of them weren't too impressive except for like 5 which included slyfox, troegs, harpoon, and two other locals. Everything else was your typical yunglieng, guiness and bass. The bottle selection was nice i had some arrogant and a bottle of old rasputin. The food was decent i got a nice burger with some good fries. Now the reason i give them a 2 for service was while i was there the service was fine. I payed my bill with my debit card and wrote cash as my tip on the reciept and left a 6 dollar cash tip to the bartender. However when i returned home and checked my online banking account i noticed that the bill was 5 dollars more than what my reciept said. When i called back to find out why this was they said that they couldn't help me. That just doesn't seem like good service to me. At least try find something out rather than just blow me off. Everything besides that was fine.

Mix-and-match six-packs to go. In the burbs. Until closing. My six-pack included:

Aventinus
Celebrator
Victory Pils
Old Rasputin
La Fin Du Monde
Weeping Radish Fest (Just because I hadn't had one before)

I could have gotten six totally different beers and gotten just as good a selection.

Oh, yeah, this is a bar, where you can sit down and have a drink. The place is a little sports bar-ish--both the crowd and the staff. There's obviously some people buying the good stuff here, but you might end up sitting between two Miller Lite drinkers. Or, you could sit next to me...I know I'll be back.

Finding the Boathouse in "Conshy" is easy because of a bright sign out front on Main St. also Fayette St. and it is located just next to the Great American Pub with a bright sign out front. Up the little ramp through the glass doors and the bar awaits running the left length of the place, with barstools running the length as well. Sometimes, getting a seat can be tough, even during off hours due to cliques of young 20ish locals gathering through the bar. Usually plenty of smokers are present so caveat emptor to non-smokers who enjoy their beers aromatic aspects. Good luck! Interior wise, The Boathouse is nothing more that a lengthy narrow hodge podge room with an upper area, a basement that holds the little skippers room (a.k.a. the head) and more sports t.v.s than you can shake an Uerige Sticke at.

The service and quality go hand in hand here. Most of the help staff are young 20ish gals that are friendly and know nothing...corection...NOTHING about beer but they are always pleasant, even when beer muscle loudmouths are obviously annoying.

As far as the beers, There are four draught towers. The first holds 8 domestics of Yuengling Lager, Magic Hat, and macro scrod beer. The second is my favorite beacause it holds all local (usually seasonal) beers like Weyerbacher, Tröegs, Vic'ry, Sly Fox, RiverHorse, Heavyweight, McKenzies and Legacy. The manager works with Legacy so expect Legacy all the time, which is nice. Bottle selection which means single takeout consists of worldy brews like Chimay Blue, Celebrator, Rochefort, St. Bernardus, Corsendonk, Westmalle, Duvel, and domestic sinles like Victory, Weyerbacher, Old Rasputin, Brooklyn. Overall, a wide spectrum of styles is well represented.

Decent pubgrub that always does the trick for a reasonable price. Wings, cheesesteaks...

Could you take your Mother here? Maybe for lunch, but otherwise, NO. Go take Mom elsewhere. Two public parking lots are located on either side at the first intersection.

Last call: The bar manager Lee does a solid job keeping the fresh local beer flowing. Heck! Sly Fox gave 'em a 12th Anniversay wheat beer. Sometimes BeerYard's Head Beer Guy Matt Guyer makes charity nites behind the bar. It can be darn near as fun as the Grey Lodge on occasion. Worth a stop even for the beer geek.

Beer is good. Happy beering.

The Boathouse is one of 2 bars in "downtown" Conshy. Of the two, this is the one more suited to the BA crowd. This is essentially a sports bar/restaurant with some nautical knick knack to make the atmosphere. A long bar lines the left hand of the pub and tables line the right and rear of the interior. The menu is typical; burgers, salads, wraps, a few entrees. The food is good for what it is, but you'll not mistake anything for gourmet. Their clam chowder is by far the best thing on the menu. The servers are friendly, and reasonably quick. They are also reasonably clueless about the beer they're serving, so don't expect much. I'd guess they have about 2 dozen taps, with an assortment of beers. Some seasonals, like Hop Wallop were on last time I went, and I tend to think they get a variety of regional seasonals along with some of the larger micros. I saw some Flying Fish, Victory, Rogue, Troegs, Sam Adams, Harpoon, etc on tap. One surprise tap handle I saw was Chimay. Someone ought to tell the dorks who crowd Monk's that they could drink Chimay elsewhere and feel trendy, thereby making it less crowded for people with some appreciation for beer. Sorry about that rant. In any case, the bottle selection here is good but did not seem to have anything on it I hadn't seen before. All in all, not a bad place but not one I'd make a trip for. If you're in Conshohocken, make a stop. At least you wont have to drink Bud while watching the game.

P.S.- I find it absurd that they claim to serve the "biggest" pint glass around. Call it a 20 ounce glass, or call it a 1 pint 4 ounces glass or a 1.25 pint glass. A pint is a pint is a pint. A pint is 16 ounces. You can't have the "biggest" pint. You CAN have the biggest glass. But NOT the biggest pint glass!!!! Not that I don't enjoy large servings of beer, but I despise how they misuse the term "pint" as an adjective when in actuality it is a volumetric measurement.

I will make this brief. It is a pretty cool place to go. It can fit a lot of people without becoming crowded. The tap selection is pretty good, and they cover a few great beers. Perkuno's Hammer when I was there. Also, 20 oz pints are very cool. I would like to see beers in the proper glassware, but if I am getting 20 oz pints, I really am not that mad about it.

Service was friendly, but they knew nothing. They could not answer questions, and upon ordering a Harp for a friend and a Sierra Nevada IPA (stressed the IPA), I received a Harpoon and a Pale ale.

After reading the two previous reviews, I think it's safe to say the Boathouse has changed significantly--for the better. I have also heard that the food is exceptional, although I did not have the opportunity to try it. I will report back on that later.

The atmosphere is quite enjoyable. I was there late on a Saturday night and it surprisingly was not that packed. A good amount of people, but one could get around the bar or get up to the bar fairly easy to order a beer. The crowd was a friendly group, most being in their mid-late twenties (just a shade older than me). The service was very friendly as well, though did not seem to knowledgable about the beer. One of the taps only said "Heavyweight" on it, and upon asking exactly which Heavyweight beer it was, the bartender had no idea. No matter, I ordered it anyway because I figured I could not go wrong with Heavyweight, and was quite pleased with the Perkuno's Hammer that I received.

There is plenty of beer here to keep anyone busy. There are at least 25 taps, with decent selection of local stuff. Victory, Sly Fox, Lancaster, and Heavyweight were all represented. Some other notable tap selections were Anchor Liberty, Hoegaarden, Rogue Dead Guy Ale and Chimay Premiere. And the glasses! I have never enjoyed a draft beer from a glass as big as the ones served up at the Boathouse. Monster pint glasses, so thats a plus.

The fridge behind the bar has a nice selection of bottled brews to fall back on as well. I couldn't put a number on it, but there's enough to keep me coming back for a while. I had a bottle of Rogue Hazelnut Brown Nectar, but I also noted Arrogant Bastard, Skullsplitter, Rochefort 10, St. Bernardus, and some other excellent brews. For me, this place is a nice change from the Main Line college bars and the crowded Old City and Manayunk bars. I'll definitely be making a few more trips, especially since it took around 5 minutes to get there!

I've seen alot of changes over the years at the Boathouse. When they first started promoting "micro-brews" the selection was quite limited - not by what they would run, but by what was available! Now there's a wide selection on tap to satisfy everyone's thirsts, including German, Belgian and English imports as well as beers from all over the US and even local brewpubs. The rotation is fairly quick so there's usually something new, and the beer sells well so it's always fresh. Two drawbacks to the great beer - there's no bottle selection to fall back on and the servers are pretty clueless. The decor has improved remarkably as well, with an expansion and renovation a few years ago. Most of the fish-nets and fake-plastic-crabs are gone. It looks like a nice, clean, bright restaurant now. The bathrooms are still in the basement, and they can get crowded at times, but that's a good thing because it means there's a party going on upstairs. Flanagan's is usually busy. There's a young, business & college crowd at night, and they do a very good lunch. One of the reasons for that is the food. Good food at reasonable prices. The clam chowder is a house specialty. There are foods other than seafood (and it doesn't smell like a seafood restaurant), so you can bring a diverse group of diners and have everyone end up happy. Highly recommended if you're in the area, but not worth traveling to. UPDATE: They've really upped their game beer-wise, and are now one of the heavy hitters in the area. They've also added a bottle shop which is nice.
