Poured into a snifter, the appearance was a dark murky brown color with a finger's worth of white foamy head that slid off at a moderate pace. Light stringy lace.
The aroma had a nice blend of vanilla tickled dark fruity caramel malty toned sweetness. Some dried sweet wood, and a little bit of earthiness roaming into a light grassy/somewhat tobacco like character.
The flavor was somewhat sweet and forgiving a lightly blended dried tobacco bitter edge riding into the aftertaste nicely.
The mouthfeel was about medium bodied with a decent carbonation about it. ABV felt good and warming.
Overall, I say this was a pretty good barrel aged old ale. I'd have again.

Undated bottle at 42 degrees into hand washed and dried imperial pint
Received in NBS BIF #2 from @richj1970
Aroma oaky, lasts but weakens
Head large (Six cm, aggressive pour), light brown, creamy, diminishing to three mm ring and rocky layer
Lacing - none
Body dark amber, transparent
Flavor begins with moderate bourbon and malt, sweet; no haps, no alcohol, no diacetyl – more typical of any bourbon barrel aged anything than any English ale
Palate medium, creamy/syrupy, soft carbonation
Appearance 4, Aroma 4, Flavor 3.5, Palate 4, Overall 4

A very impressive two fingers of light Carmel head rises on top of body is a deep rich brown in tone. Nose is full of dark fruits and sweet malts. This beer is full of creamy sweet dark fruits in the flavor. Bready and very approachable on the palate. This was a very surprisingly good beer.

A mellow, smooth, unassuming strong ale, Dark Planet is good very cold but probably "warmed" to cellar-temperature, and likewise a nice option on a bracing wintry evening. Wafting a light aroma of thick dark bread and plums, the head is moderate but fat-bubbled, while the body itself it not especially effervescent, with small streams of tiny bubbles occasionally arising from the decent smattering of sediment. The taste itself is also plum-heavy, with collaborative elements of fig (even figgy pudding, really), and a bit of yeasty banana; subtle banana-bread and black-bread notes swirl in hints underneath those more prominent fruit currents. There's a little bitterness at the trailing edge, but it's minimally felt, and mostly this is a sweeter-side, brown-fruits-and-breads beer, which corresponds to its deeply brown color nicely.
Overall, I can't say that Dark Planet is mind-blowing, but I could see walking into a pub on a blustry, soggy, bone-chilling day and swallowing a few, surely and soundly, as I let the ale warm the organs and snuggle the cockles; and, as such, I hedge a little towards bonus stylistic points. It's very drinkable—damn the thing else—and more than does its job: minimal frills, no need for pairings or perusings, just a pint or three as a pillow to chilly nights.
