Appearance: Crystal clear, deep amber body in hue with a creamyish, ivory head.

Smell: A raw, resinous hop pellet note sits atop the toasted maltiness. Touch of dry caramel. Pithy citrus, florals, and pine.

Taste: Toasty malts bolstered with an edge of roast. A little, low sweet hint of caramel and apricot gives way to floral, citrus fruits and a citric bite as well as some pine. Moderate bitterness. The flavors hold on until the bitterish finish.

Mouthfeel: A little above medium-bodied. Medium carbonation.

Overall: Happy Anniversary.

Big bold imperial red with a nice blend of roasty and hoppy flavors. This one is much more on the roasted flavor side than most hopped up reds from my experience and thats really fine. Great expression of the style and i would recommend trying this if you can find at a decent price. My $10 bomber was not worth grabbing compared to better reds out there. That said good effort from a brewer i would like to try more of ... If they can price something competitively.

Semi-clear dark red/amber beer with a tall offwhite head. The lacing and head retention are very good.

Aromas start with caramel malts and then have citrusy and piney hops.

The taste has a big hoppy bitterness to start, with grapefruit flavors making it tart and bitter. Unfortunately there's also quite a bit of astringency. The malts noted in the smells really do not show up in the taste.

Heavy in body, the finish has citrus flavors and an aftertaste that is quite bitter and astringent.

Overall the astringency was unpleasant and made for a tiring beer.

Poured from a bomber into a large stem wine glass.

A: This is a gorgeous beer in the glass. Rich copper red color with a three finger off-white head. The head is thick and creamy. A lot of tiny bubbles streaming up from the bottom of the glass. The beer is very clear and pristine. A nice lacing follows its way down the glass.
S: A bit of bitter grapefruit, hints of pine and citrus, not much malt on the nose.
T: A nice up front hop smash that mellows out with a malty breadiness and some bitter citrus notes. Very enjoyable.
MF: Clean and crisp, while also very creamy and rich. This is making my mouth pretty happy.
O: I have read and heard a lot about the astringency of this beer, but I didn't really get that. Perhaps thats because it has been sitting since April and the bitterness has mellowed down a bit. Having previously drank a bottle of STA's Gorillanaut Imp. IPA, I have to say I enjoyed this one a lot more. Definitely my favorite hoppy offering from STA.

On tap at the Bulldog, Jackson, MS

A: A modest opaque amber with an off-white half finger head that smoothed out slowly. Significant lacing.

S: Piney hops pop up along with grapefruit and a light malt background.

T: A well balanced bitterness that doesn't offend. Smooth and sessionable. Malts pair well with the piney hops. Sweet. Perfect for a spring afternoon on the patio with friends.

M: Light to medium with medium carbonation. Semi-dry.

O: A great anniversary ale. STA is quickly becoming one of my favorite brewers. Happy anniversary!
