Notes: Albert. Able. Gordo. Miss Baker. Bonny. Goliath. Between 1948 and 1961 these primate pioneers and others bravely went where no man had ever gone before, paving the way for manned U.S. spaceflight. This hoppy little monkey of a beer is a tribute to those Simian heroes of yesteryear. It has a citrusy, floral hop aroma, a strong malt body and a crisp finish.

Look - poured from a 12 oz can. Amber-golden in color, transparent, with a moderate head and good lacing retention.
Smell - a pleasant mix of hops. Floral and citrus forward, a whiff of sweetness, and some malts detectable.
Taste - fairly hoppy forward, and actually quite fresh (though that might have to do with the fact that came straight from the brewery). the citrusy hops stand out a bit more, and the bitterness lingers for a good amount of time, though finish is crisp.
Feel - medium bodied, average carbonation, and slightly above average on ABV at 7.25%.
Overall - its a really good American IPA. In addition to the refreshing flavors, it has a lot of complexity to make things interesting.

#50 in the Top Alabama Beers list.

"India Pale Ale." 7.25% ABV. IBU: 75 SRM: 11. Brewed year-round.

Canned-on date is unreadable from smudgery. 12 fl oz can ran me $2.50 USD plus tax for the single at Craft Beer Cellar, New Orleans, LA.

AROMA: Citrusy and floral aromatics. Mandarin orange. Tangerine zest. Citrus peel. Some rindy bitterness.

Aromatic intensity is average for the style. Doesn't seem horribly fresh, nor does it suggest an IPA with a standout hop profile.

TASTE: Loads of Mandarin orange with subsidiary citrus peel and floral notes, but no rindy bitterness. Orange spritz. Pale malt.

Rather well balanced, with its bitterness constrained to just the finish. Mellow and fruity up front. Has one of the better pure citrus hop emphases of probably the last 100 beers I've rated. I get some lychee on the finish as it comes to temperature.

TEXTURE: Soft, smooth, wet, refreshing, well-carbonated. Its softness takes some of the oomph out of the beer's hop flavour, reducing its pungency and depth of flavour, but some may find it worth it for the added drinkability.

OVERALL: Has the hop pungency of a pale ale, but its fresh citrus hop profile makes it well worth trying. Its 7.25% ABV is devilishly well disguised...I could definitely see myself getting a pitcher of this over a pizza on a night out with the lads.

High B- (3.48) / VERY GOOD

8/3...pours clear copper with rings of foam. Faint nose, floral mostly. Light bitter grind flavor. Floral flavor. Buried citrus. Smooth. Quite chewy to finish. Very nice.

From a can. Orange color with fluffy white head. Malty smell with some citrusy hops in the background. Medium feel. Tastes of sweet malts mixed with some citrus and pine. More malt-forward among IPAs.

Monkeynaut has a thick, soapy, off-white head, a mostly opaque, bubbly, orange appearance, and moderate glass lacing. The aroma is of strong, bready malt and hop resins, with citrus peel. The flavor is similar, with a building bitterness. Mouthfeel is high-medium, and Monkeynaut finishes mostly dry.

The color is similar to sweet potato flesh, the taste is citrus, slight pine, the bitterness is there but not as sharp as other IPA's that I have had previously, some mild bready malts on the finish, it's sort of crushable, not too much of a challenge on the palate. Furthermore, miss the old can artwork that this beer used to have, but it still taste like a good ol' Monkeynaut IPA. It's decent & worth a try if you have not a beer from the Straight To Ale brewery before. B

From the can, it pours a hazy amber with a nice, large, thick head. The head lasts a bit. In the nose, it begets a nice citrusy scent. In the mouth, it is the same,

This taste like a cheap malt liquor, equal to something like colt 45. What a waste of an IPA and Money. Its almost like they added cheap Vodka to increase the Abv%.

Pours like an IPA with a hazy orange color and a thin lacy head. That’s as good as this one gets. Flat, dank malty smell makes me wonder what I have here. Tastes pretty good but I’m expecting some citrus that never comes around. Malty feel instead of that citrus bite I’m looking for so overall this is a very drinkable beer but an IPA ?......not so much

Had to try some local stuff my first time in Huntsville. This was much more a malty pale ale than an IPA, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. It was definitely good enough to sample other offerings from the brewery.

No overwhelming smell, tastes more of a brown ale than an IPA, Taste is ok and color is a copper look to it... not a favorite of mine and wouldn’t get

Poured into a tulip glass, orange pumpkin spice color and had about an inch of head, which disappeared slowly but never faded completely. The smell is nice and sweet. The taste is hoppy and complements the smell but not as sweet. Overall a very good IPA.

Very well balanced with hops and malt. This is the third time I have had this brew now. Smells and taste of citrus and malt. For 10 dollars a six pack a very solid brew. I could see myself buying a sixer of this every year on my way to my dad's in mobile. Easy to pick up st the walmart down the road without going out of the way to my favorite liquor store the Crown Package Liquors in Mobile Alabama. Will visit the craft beer store tomorrow to dig alittle deeper....

Dang fine IPA. Malt and hops blend together smooth. Bitter but not overly so. Tastes like an IPA should. I've had better, but had much worse beer!

Solid IPA. Served on draft at Pretentious Beer Company in Knoxville TN. A beautiful day outside so I am enjoying this on the outdoor patio.

Served in an 18oz customer glass that is mother ducking sweet as hell. Kind of a snifter shape with some blown rings around the bottom, resembling one of those wooden sticks used to serve honey. If I weren't so principled, I would put this in my pocket and take off.

Arrives clear and golden hued with a solid white head of food girth and substance. I am enjoying the look of the lacing in the custome glass.

Aroma is the only thing lacking in this one. It's slightly hoppy but it definitely needs more. I can tell it's an IPA but it has hints of Pilsner (maybe Saaz) hop aromas that are subtle.

Great flavor too. Very well balanced with the bitterness, not sweet, quite enjoyable. Very nicely done.

Poured from a 12 ounce can dated 2/17/17.

The pour is a very nice amber color with tons of floaties. There is a thick, fluffy white head that left a ton of lacing.

The smell is very malty up front with some orange and pine on the background.

The taste follows the nose, although the citrus balances the malt better than on the nose. There is a nice bitter pine finish

The mouthfeel is very thick and smooth with low to medium carbonation.

Overall this is a very nice beer, although a little more piney and malt forward than I usually like.

A: Pours a relatively clear golden copper in color with moderate amounts of active visible carbonation rising from the bottom of the glass and moderate honey + ruby red highlights. The beer has a finger tall foamy light beige head that reduces to a large patch of thin film covering the majority of the surface of the beer and a thin ring a the edges of the glass. Light to moderate amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Moderate aromas of herbal, pine, and floral hops over the top of slightly less than moderate aromas of slightly sweet caramel malts.

T: Upfront there are moderate to slightly stronger than moderate flavors of caramel malts with light to moderate amounts of caramel sweetness. That is followed by moderate flavors of pine, herbal, and floral hops which impart a moderate amount of lingering bitterness.

M: Medium bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Initially lightly creamy with hints of dryness in the finish.

O: Very enjoyable with a decent balance between the malty sweetness and the hop bitterness without losing out on the hop flavors + aromas. Easy to drink. I would definitely have another one of these.

Simply the best IPA. Beautiful amber color, perfect bouquet and every flavor in the rainbow. This stuff really has way more kick than it's 7.25 says it has.

Appearance: Hazy gold, very appealing. White cap, good lacing.

Aroma: Malt then a beautiful melange of almost tropical hop scents, I definitely get pineapple and something that's either mango or tangerine. Really smells good.

Taste: Echos aroma but exceed it in intensity. Sweet malt rolling around in those hops. It all works together rather well. Clean finish with malt and hops in concert.

Texture: Medium in feel and no more substantial than it needs to be.

Overall: I like this and I'm not especially a heavy IPA fan. At 7.5% perhaps it is the heft I find appealing. More stuff in there I suppose because the flavor is solid and the alcohol isn't apparent. One to having when you're having just one.

Hazy light orange-amber with a foamy white head. Fruity aroma with pineapple, orange, and pine with a little caramel. Taste follows with pineapple (!), grapefruit, pine, and earth. Muted malt presence. Dry finish. Nice IPA - this pineapple surprised me.

This beer pours a slightly hazy golden amber color with a huge fluffy off white head. Retention is excellent and there are chunky spots of lacing. Smell is pretty bland. Some bready malt along with a bit of piney and floral hops and some hop spiciness as well. Taste is the same and kind of muddled with a good deal of bitterness on the back end. Feel is medium and slick. Overall not bad.

Clean orange pour, very fizzy khaki head
Orange, mango, biscuit, tangerine, apricot, grapefruit
Earthy malts and woody/piney hops underneath a light grapefruit juice
Lightish and very fizzy feel
Decent. A little bitter and earthy/woody for my tastes
