Albert. Able. Gordo. Miss Baker. Bonny. Goliath. Between 1948 and 1961 these primate pioneers and others bravely went where no man had ever gone before, paving the way for manned U.S. spaceflight. This hoppy little monkey of a beer is a tribute to those Simian heroes of yesteryear. It has a citrusy, floral hop aroma, a strong malt body and a crisp finish.

Delicious beer. Floral afternote is beautiful and subtle and complements the battle between hops and malt which precedes it. Excellent “look what Alabama can do” beer! Like it, love it, buy it regularly and it’s always consistently great. Something to recommend to out-of-staters looking for a beautiful take on a West Coast IPA.

A - Pours hazy orange body, mostly transparent, big head of almost white head, with lots of lacing.

S - Nose is pine, a bit of floral and grass. A big smack of resin, with a bit of grapefruit pith and zest below. Muddled, though, and not clearly articulated.

T - Taste opens citrus, orange and lemon, herbal notes of mint and oregano, and a strong bitter finish.

M - Delivers sharp carbonation and moderate weight. Dry, with a build of resin that means this is a one and done, but that isn't necessarily bad. It works here.

O - Decent old school American IPA. The focus on pine, resin, and herbal notes is an interesting take that most beers these days eschew. A welcome exploration.

16 ounce draft, room temp pint glass. Deep gold color with nice head which hangs around through first few gulps. Smell is what you might expect from a hop forward IPA. Dry and hoppy on the front but not overwhelming. Sweetens and mellows as it finishes. Good mouth feel with dry palate. Drinkable IPA. Alabama continues to surprise.

Pours a golden with good orange notes, thumb sized off white head falls slow and laces good.

Aroma is old fashioned citrus and pine, grapefruit, orange and a sprinkling of pine needles. Kind of nice from all the hazy stuff on the market now a days.

Taste is like the nose, caramel backbone that is over powered by the grapefruit citrus bite of the hops with a sprinkle of pine needles. Pretty normal IPA good medium bitterness without being tounge scraping.

Mouhfeel is medium carbonation lightly peppy helps the bitterness come to the front.

Overall not a bad old fashioned west coast IPA.

Short and simple: a very dank/hoppy IPA, which finishes on a crisp citrus side. Enjoyable beer, however, it's a bit too hoppy for me—would recommend to some friends with a hoppier palate.

On tap at the brewery. Hit more with a grassy scent and a little floral, but not much citrus or pine here. Taste reminded me of a throwback IPA from a local brewery that hadn't really nailed their recipe yet. Firm bitterness but not a lot of flavor aside from a little bit of citrus and the grassy-ness. Some astringency. Decent drinkability, and it might go better with food. Overall, not something I'd get again.

Look - poured from a 12 oz can. Amber-golden in color, transparent, with a moderate head and good lacing retention.
Smell - a pleasant mix of hops. Floral and citrus forward, a whiff of sweetness, and some malts detectable.
Taste - fairly hoppy forward, and actually quite fresh (though that might have to do with the fact that came straight from the brewery). the citrusy hops stand out a bit more, and the bitterness lingers for a good amount of time, though finish is crisp.
Feel - medium bodied, average carbonation, and slightly above average on ABV at 7.25%.
Overall - its a really good American IPA. In addition to the refreshing flavors, it has a lot of complexity to make things interesting.

#50 in the Top Alabama Beers list.

"India Pale Ale." 7.25% ABV. IBU: 75 SRM: 11. Brewed year-round.

Canned-on date is unreadable from smudgery. 12 fl oz can ran me $2.50 USD plus tax for the single at Craft Beer Cellar, New Orleans, LA.

AROMA: Citrusy and floral aromatics. Mandarin orange. Tangerine zest. Citrus peel. Some rindy bitterness.

Aromatic intensity is average for the style. Doesn't seem horribly fresh, nor does it suggest an IPA with a standout hop profile.

TASTE: Loads of Mandarin orange with subsidiary citrus peel and floral notes, but no rindy bitterness. Orange spritz. Pale malt.

Rather well balanced, with its bitterness constrained to just the finish. Mellow and fruity up front. Has one of the better pure citrus hop emphases of probably the last 100 beers I've rated. I get some lychee on the finish as it comes to temperature.

TEXTURE: Soft, smooth, wet, refreshing, well-carbonated. Its softness takes some of the oomph out of the beer's hop flavour, reducing its pungency and depth of flavour, but some may find it worth it for the added drinkability.

OVERALL: Has the hop pungency of a pale ale, but its fresh citrus hop profile makes it well worth trying. Its 7.25% ABV is devilishly well disguised...I could definitely see myself getting a pitcher of this over a pizza on a night out with the lads.

High B- (3.48) / VERY GOOD
