Simply the best IPA. Beautiful amber color, perfect bouquet and every flavor in the rainbow. This stuff really has way more kick than it's 7.25 says it has.

Appearance: Hazy gold, very appealing. White cap, good lacing.

Aroma: Malt then a beautiful melange of almost tropical hop scents, I definitely get pineapple and something that's either mango or tangerine. Really smells good.

Taste: Echos aroma but exceed it in intensity. Sweet malt rolling around in those hops. It all works together rather well. Clean finish with malt and hops in concert.

Texture: Medium in feel and no more substantial than it needs to be.

Overall: I like this and I'm not especially a heavy IPA fan. At 7.5% perhaps it is the heft I find appealing. More stuff in there I suppose because the flavor is solid and the alcohol isn't apparent. One to having when you're having just one.

Hazy light orange-amber with a foamy white head. Fruity aroma with pineapple, orange, and pine with a little caramel. Taste follows with pineapple (!), grapefruit, pine, and earth. Muted malt presence. Dry finish. Nice IPA - this pineapple surprised me.

Poured from the tap into a pint glass at the brewery. The appearance is a cloudy orange amber with a large white head. The aroma is hops and citrus. The taste matches the aroma. An excellent beer.

This beer pours a slightly hazy golden amber color with a huge fluffy off white head. Retention is excellent and there are chunky spots of lacing. Smell is pretty bland. Some bready malt along with a bit of piney and floral hops and some hop spiciness as well. Taste is the same and kind of muddled with a good deal of bitterness on the back end. Feel is medium and slick. Overall not bad.

Clean orange pour, very fizzy khaki head
Orange, mango, biscuit, tangerine, apricot, grapefruit
Earthy malts and woody/piney hops underneath a light grapefruit juice
Lightish and very fizzy feel
Decent. A little bitter and earthy/woody for my tastes

12 FL. OZ. can
Served in an IPA glass

This beer pours a hazy amber with burnt orange highlights. It is topped with three inches of beige head that leaves some nice lacing.

It has a sweet honey aroma. I get some caramel malt. I smell some faint floral hops. It appears this can is not as fresh as I'd hoped.

The taste is sweet as well. I can clearly taste the malt. The hops must be completely faded.

Medium and creamy mouthfeel

A friend gave me this beer to try. I was looking forward to it but am disappointed that it is old. I will revisit if the opportunity presents itself.

Clear golden orange pour with a white one-finger head. Piney aroma. Taste has lots of pine and resin upfront backed by a good bit of bready malt revealing a slight sweetness. Finishes strong and bitter with notes of spicy pine.

Look: clear orange to gold in color with 2 finger thick white head. Aroma: a little citrus with sweet malt and candy smell. Taste: Orange up front and then pine on the finish. More sweetness from malt than expected. Mouthfeel: crisp with medium body. Overall: fairly well balanced tasting IPA that could use a little more hop aroma

look: 3.75 | smell: 4 | taste: 3.5 | feel: 3 | overall: 3.5

Pours a medium amber-orange color. Some haze. 1 finger light tan head doesn't last long. Minimal lacing.

Citrus and tropical hops on the nose. Grapefruit, lemon, and pineapple. Some mango. Caramel malt. Spicy at the end.

Taste is more grapefruit hops. Lemon rind, mango, and a bit of pine. Doughy, caramel malt. Peppery spice. Some earthiness.

Medium body with medium carbonation. Quite bitter and it lingers. Flavors seem to get swallowed and overshadowed by the bitterness.

A decent IPA but one that could use improvement. The bitterness in particular is overpowering.

Poured from cold 12-ounce can into Spiegelau IPA glass.
A - Hazy, deep copper color; three-finger head of dense white foam that lingered for several minutes. Lots of sticky lacing. Particularly striking appearance when viewed in sunlight.
S - Hop forward, notes of grapefruit zest and pine resin. A little more maltiness came through as it warmed.
T/F - The flavor profile followed the aroma profile quite closely: hop forward, notes of citrus and pine at first, them some malt sweetness as it neared cellar temperature. Dry finish, bitter, somewhat resiny.
O - A solid, enjoyable IPA, right in the wheelhouse.

Dark golden/light Amber color. Somewhat funky nose, like a malty, Belgian golden ale; the antithesis of a hop-bomb, this IPA delivers a creamy, smooth mouthfeel and a dry, hoppy bitterness. It hides the 7+ ABV very well.

Wow! This one is impressive. Lots of caramel and balanced with a pleasant hoppy taste. Canned in Birmingham. Clever 'lil can image with monkey, perhaps the same one that was in the "Temple of Doom".

L-Pours a beer with a solid head at first, then turning into a glass hugging soapy bubble-like head. Nice amber color.
S-Very hoppy and floral with a slight boozy aroma that follows. I also get strong sweet notes, carmel possibly? Whats most memorable is the piney hop smell it has.
T-Very bitter and sweet. This is a tasty beer. I get a very floral flavor when sipping this beer. Earthy, piney, sweet and floral. What more could I ask for in an IPA?
F-Medium carbonation, light mouthfeel though.
O-Great find in my opinion, I haven't had too much Straight To Ale and this makes me want more. This is a great IPA. Give it a try for sure.

Poured from 12oz can into a dimpled mug.

Appearance: medium orange hue with basically no haze and a moderate effervescence. Head pours a thin finger of frothy ivory foam that has decent staying power. I really like the color on this one.

Smell: very malty with an up-front caramel character and a moderate level of earthy hops. Reminds me more of an English IPA, but not bad.

Taste: caramel malt with a pretty heavy sweetness plus that earthy hop character. Bitterness is surprisingly low, at least compared to the sweetness. It's not bad, but not especially hoppy.

Mouthfeel: medium body with a good level of carbonation and a good creaminess for the style.

Overall: not a bad IPA, but not one I would go out of my way to have again.

Pours a dark orange color, head lingers throughout drinking, nice lacing not he glass. Hop smell is present along with some malt. Hop flavor pops through at the front and finishes with some malt sweetness. Smooth feel, very enjoyable. Nice offering from the folks in Alabama!

I see a lot of reviewers down on the maltiness of this IPA. But why? Nowhere is it written that IPAs can't be sweet AND bitter. I say well done STA. This is a great beer and one I always look forward to.

A: Hazy dark orange, 1 inch off white head,

S: Slight smell of earthy, piney hops and some malts

T: Really sweet malts, spicy rye, balanced well by the earthy pine hops that was in the smell, balanced really, really well

M: Medium to full, lingering hop bitterness, smooth

O: I really like this IPA but I tend to like them a little more malty. Anyone who would rather have it leaning toward the hoppy bitterness, this probably isnt for you.

12 oz bottle courtesy of fthomasl pours a hazed copper color with a thick cap of creamy, tan head. Nice retention and lace...a very good looking brew. Bonus points for the fantastic name and can design.

Nose is a little on the malty side for me in an IPA, but there are some tropical aromas there. East Coast style for sure - toasty, nutty malts to compliment the hops. The more it warms up, the more I like it though...something in between sugar and caramel - salt water taffy fits.

A nice little malt - hop combo here. Both are well done and dare I say...balanced? I like the toast and sugary malt profile and the hops are mostly on the bittering end as opposed to flavoring but somehow it works ok here. Id drink this again, for sure.

Excellent IPA! Born on date 05/06/15 - it's brewed just a couple of hours up the road in Huntsville, AL so I always get it fresh. Though sweeter than most are use to, it still packs a hoppy/citrusy punch. The body is big with a crisp finish. Very enjoyable and one of my go-to local brews these days.

not too often i get to try beer from alabama, so i was excited about this one. its a pretty basic ipa, but it tastes good. it has just a little more of a grain body and sweetness than i personally prefer in the style, but the hop complexion is robust and it works real well on the whole. orangey in color, with a fluffy head on it. the hops are very juicy, and my can was fortunately very fresh, hop aromatics radiate from this one, with grapefruit leading the way, but notes of lemon and oily bitterness as well. the taste sees the hops fall back just a little from the nose, and bitterness become a little more intense, which is fine since there is some grain sweetness here, and it balances it out pretty well. the carbonation is like a soda pop, its high enough to make the beer seem lighter than it is in terms of both body and abv, and i appreciate that. i have not had much beer from the south, especially the hoppy stuff, and while this is a step back from the best india pale ales on the market, its cool to try something like this. worth picking up if you are traveling there.

First of all, the can design is fantastic. Brilliant orange or medium amber with a generous head that leaves lots of lacing. Nectarine, citrus fruit, a bit of soft malty aroma and a whiff of alcohol on the nose. Medium bodied with a degree of silky smoothness on the palate. More juicy nectarine to the taste, which mingles with marmalade and lightly toasted bread. Mild, herbal and grapefruity hops sustain through the finish. Very drinkable, even five months after its born on date. From soup to nuts, Monkeynaut is a solid American IPA.

The flavor has resinous pine, bitterness up front, a touch of grapefruit, substantial malt backbone. Lots of resin with a decent bitterness on the back end.

The beer is a fine traditional American IPA.

Tap at Hop City. Pours hazy orange with white head. Aroma of citrus and hops. Flavor citrus and bitter hops with a hint of caramel. Light bodied. Not too shabby.
