Not bad. Just needs some more pumpkin and spices. Of course, I got the last one before the tap blew do it may have some effect.

I don't see any bottle date.

Appearance: The body of the beer is a murky and dark brown. The head is very short and tan with hints of yellow. It fades out very quickly and leaves nothing but a bubbling fountain of carbonation behind that does not ever form a head again. No lacing. It does keep about half of a ring of foam but not much else.

Aroma: There is a very light pumpkin spice aroma consisting mostly of cinnamon. I am getting a bit of clove as well. The aroma is very muted.

Taste: It has a bit of a tobacco leaf flavor along with a toasted bread flavor up front. There is a light bit of clove flavor. It doesn't have a ton of flavor overall.

Mouthfeel: The mouthfeel is a bit thin. It does have a lot of carbonation but it just feels like fizzy water without any texture.

Overall: The appearance is pretty unimpressive especially for a Dunkelweizen. If you ignore that you are left with a mildly tasty beer without much body. The overall drinking experience is pretty lackluster. The average Dunkel will have more flavor than this and this is supposed to be elevated with pumpkin and spices. I read the side of the bottle label and is mentioned "the use of cinnamon, all spice, nutmeg, ginger and pumpkin compliments the banana and clove flavors of a typical German hefeweizen yeast strain." I do agree that the clove flavor from the yeast really adds to the spice very nicely but the beer as a whole just doesn't work together. It is very thin and the flavors taste muted. With all of the pumpkin beers offered during the fall I wouldn't pick this one up again. I really wouldn't recommend it to either Dunkel lovers or pumpkin beer lovers.

A: Pours clear, dark amber color, with a finger of light-khaki-colored head (good for most beers, but pretty meager for a Dunkelweizen); retention and lacing were good.

S: Complex aromas, including cloves, ginger, and cinnamon, banana bread, dark fruit, and more.

T: Malt is more dark wheat bread than sweet. The spices a detected on the nose are certainly present, but rather subdued. There is a bitter vegetable flavor, which may be pumpkin, but is too hidden by the other flavors to be certain. Later flavors include burnt toast and bitter orange.

M: Moist start to finish, with adequate carbonation.

O: Much more Dunkelweizen than pumpkin beer, although the pumpkin pie spices are certainly there. It's an interesting blend of two styles, but not as good as the best examples of either.

Interesting brew that I found as a single at a 7-11 so had to give a try as they took a style, the dunkle, which is a hefe mixed with more malts, and added "pumpkin" malts. Poured a light auburn tinted brown with two finger head and the cinnamon and nutmeg spices hit real good but you can still pick out clove, coriander, citric, yeast. Unfortunately, the taste doesn't follow through as good as the nose. The yeast strains make the beer like a typical hefe/dunkle, but the beer is a little watery and quite frankly the breadiness and sweetness of the beer, especially the pumpkin aspects (brown sugar, nutmeg, cinnamon), are tasted at best at a minor level. The spices and citric notes of the beer seem to overpower and it comes across at times like a sweet and then sour beer. Not bad, worth a shot if your game, but just didn't have the greatest execution.

Pours a medium amber, with a rich and persistent khaki head that never seems to totally dissipate. Smell is of spices and pumpkin. Taste follows, with a strong injection of brown sugar. But not so much as to be overpowering of the pumpkin. Malts are prominent, but the best aspect of this beer is the mouthfeel, which is full and delicious. Overall, a very solid beer, for those not quite ready to go all-in with traditional pumpkin ales at this early phase of the Virginia fall season.
