i love how fresh this beer is, how the hops seem to be bursting out of suspension like a pod of dolphins breaching off the coast. its so vibrant and alive, and i love that about it. what i dont love is the hop profile itself. i mean, its so fresh and new and clean and good, but its such a familiar played out profile i feel like. northwestern hops of the old guard here, i know it, maybe not this green, but i have tasted the base beer here a million times already. i always appreciate when someone reinvents the wheel to make it rounder you know? its already been done, but lets do it again, lets do it really really well, but its still the same wheel. this might be one of the finest wheels yet produced in terms of balance, freshness, mouthfeel, finish, and abv (right where i like my ipa!), but its still a wheel to me. breakside continues to impress me though, they have a huge lineup, and all of them are very good.

edit: just had this on tap for the first time, and i almost cant believe the review i wrote of the bottle above. it tasted like a juicy mosaic explosion, a whole lot less of the northwestern pine thing than i obviously picked up in the past. so clean and easy this is from the tap, i wonder if my palate has changed since then or if the beer has, or if there is a marked difference between the two formats. either way, i think i much prefer the draft, what an awesome ipa this is!

Poured from bomber into tulip. This is exceptional from the the nose to the aftertaste. Big citrusy nose, crisp citrus flavor with a mild bitterness, refreshing and smooth on the way down. I could drink this all day everyday.

Tasted 8 Sep 2015.

Orange, cloudy with great head and lacing.

Smell bursting with hops. Oranges and pineapples, all juicy and sweet.

Taste clean, dry, a touch chalky with excellent aromatic hop presence. Citrus!

Feel outstanding. Med-light body, prickly, tingly, buzzy. Carbonation all over, and right where it should be. Dries out smoothly and pleasantly.

A top-notch IPA. Great juicy, citrusy hops, and very well rounded.

Another Top Top IPA

Among my top 7 fo sho. An absolutely uplifting brew. Literally, a giver of euphoria throughout and beyond its entire drinking experience. I'll add details when I make the time.

What else can I say? This is a favorite beer of mine. Thank you, Breakside.

22 oz bottle. Pours clear light yellow with a medium frothy white head that retains well and laces the glass.

The aroma is some bready (slight crystal) malts with sweet tropical fruit and piney hops.

The flavor is sweet tropical fruits with a big resiny bitterness. The mouthfeel is a bit thin and watery.

Overall, nice tropical fruit, resiny IPA, a bit thin and watery though.
