On tap at The Tap and Mallet in Rochester, NY.

This one pours a darkish orange color, with a small head, and a little bit of lacing.

Smells like sweet pineapple, bit of caramel malt, some sharp grapefruit, and spicy pine.

This is super wonderful. It's a little sweeter than the flagship, with more malt character. There's not too much malt though- just enough to prop up the strong hop character- pineapple, tart grapefruit and lemon. It's super tasty and I need more.

This is light bodied, moderately crisp, with a good level of carbonation.

Another great beer from these guys. They are seriously killer.

Bought a 22oz bomber at John's Market. They move a lot of Breakside, so this should be fresh enough.

Hmmm.
Beer Advocate website says it is 6.60% abv.
Breakside website says 6.2% abv and 63 IBUs, but click on 'More Info' and it says it's 6.0% and 60 IBUs.
The label on bottle says 6.7% abv.
Hell's bells, brewing math isn't so tough !?

Pours a hazy straw, nice creamy head that lingers nicely. Rim of lacing.

Taste is mellow, a bit dry but gentle on the palate.

Solid brew, but I will stick to their IGA.

Pours an effervescent & slightly hazed gold with 2+ fingers of pearl colored head. Great head retention & lacing

S: Grapefruit & a little breadyness

T: Grapefruit, breadyness, mango up front. Mango, grapefruit, dryness & bready sweetness as this warms. Finishes with pomelo, grapefruit & a touch of tangerine & dryness

MF: Medium body, fairly firm carbonation, good balance

Tasty, easy drinking IPA, well worth a go

Another Top Top IPA

Among my top 7 fo sho. An absolutely uplifting brew. Literally, a giver of euphoria throughout and beyond its entire drinking experience. I'll add details when I make the time.

What else can I say? This is a favorite beer of mine. Thank you, Breakside.

Grapefruit juice, zest, orange and pine. Some wheat like flavors but more biscuit malt taste. Semi dry finish. Really well balanced ipa. Nice combo of bitterness and sweetness. Another really solid brew from Breakside.

A beer that steers clear of a lot of the other traps most American IPAs fall into. Brewers sometimes become so obsessed with trying to "out hop" the competition that they forget style guidelines. What we end up with are these enormously hopped, over saturated beers that taste more like double and triple IPAs than they do singles.

This beer doesn't make that mistake.

Very balanced, I get flavors of mild dry hop resin upfront amongst notes of bitter orange and grapefruit rind. Theres a sweet malty cereal flavor on the aftertaste to even it all out. Slightly vegetal and grassy. Very refreshing and clean tasting.

The flavors are profound enough to speak for themselves without overpowering or stealing the spotlight from one another or becoming so strong that they are cloying and abrasive to your palate.

Highly sessionable and thirst quenching.

Bomber. Pours hazy medium golden, thin white head fades quickly, a few spots of lace. Light citrus n cracker aroma. Light sweet malt taste and citrus peel hops. Great balance with the citrus peel and floral grassy bitterness winning out and lasting well past the finish. Ultra dry bitter finish, light to medium oily n soft finish. Haven't had this one in a while, as good as I recall.

Pours a clear golden yellow with an inch head of fine bubbles that settle after a while. A little odd how few bubbles are coming up in the glass after pouring, particularly given the robust head. Smells of piney hops but something is a little off. Taste is piney hops with some bitterness, fairly dry. Mouthfeel is pretty watery. Overall, OK but a little disappointing given other reviews. No dating evident on the bottle, so I wonder if that is the problem. Broadside beers have just appeared in the past few weeks in 2 of the Boston area stores that I visit. Maybe there is an age or storage problem that happens in getting them to the East Coast. I bought another of their IPAs at the same store and was similarly disappointed in getting a beer that did not live up to the other ratings here.

Golden orange in color, mostly clear (slight chill haze). Thin white cap. Citrus is heavy in the nose along with a substantial pine presance. Malt aroma has a slightly toasted quality that plays off the hops very nicely. Orange and grapefruit are present in the taste along with a piney, resiny bite. Great balance with the malt. Medium-full body with medium-high carbonation. Very dry finish with well balanced bitterness.

A: The beer is relatively clear dark yellow in color and has a light amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a thin off white collar around the edge of the glass and some lacing on the surface.
S: Moderate aromas of citrus and tropical fruit hops are present in the nose.
T: Similar to the smell, the taste has flavors of citrus and tropical fruits—tangerines and mangos seem to stand out in particular.
M: It feels nearly medium-bodied and a little crisp on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer is very fruity for a beer that seems to be a little lighter in body compared to most IPAs. As such, it is very sessionable.

Poured from 22 oz. bottle into standard pint glass. Golden amber in color, with a slight haze. Rich, creamy, white head that receded to a nice, substantial film. The aroma hits you right away with tropical fruit, light citrus, and floral. Quite a lovely bouquet. The flavor follows suit and is hop forward - bold flavor reads the label, and I agree. There is no lack of flavor here, dank and musky with a hint of floral and citrus. Grassy notes. The mouthfeel is juicy & resinous.?Piney & citrus aftertaste. Excellent beer overall in my opinion.

Bottle: Poured a pale yellow color ale with a large white foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of floral hops notes with citrusy and grassy notes is wonderful. Taste is also a wonderful mix of floral hops with almost no bitterness and some grassy notes and citrusy notes with light residual sugar notes. Body is about average with good carbonation. Solid juicy IPA.

Very, very handsome beer. Hazy golden orange with a white head that lays down a solid curtain of lace. Impressive. Pretty gentle nose, but past that, really tasty. Hoppy, but not too over the top. Orange rind, tasty. Lingering bitter finish. Very well made, worth a try.

From bomber into a tulip glass. No freshness dating evident.

A-Pours a hazy golden-orange color with a three finger, egg shell white head great retention and copious, sticky lacing. Nice appearance.

S-Floral and citrus hops are wonderfully fragrant with some resinous pine aroma, even before the pour. The aroma is very pronounced and pleasant. Would like to know the hop bill, but the brewery’s website is virtual-less and almost useless. I suspect the normal players are present (like Cascade & Centennial) with maybe a light addition of Mosaic since I note a hint of bubblegum. Definitely more grapefruit than pine, but it is nicely dank.

T-Very well balanced yet simple. Grapefruit and piney hops are blended beautifully by delicate malt sweetness that is not cloying. A definite NW style IPA.

M-A tad light and thin and perhaps under-carbonated.

O-Very drinkable.

Pours a clear straw color with a large foamy head. Smell is all hops, mostly pine with a smidgeon of citrus. Tastes just like it smells, although there is a hair more grapefruit rind in the mouth, which is a good thing. Mouthfeel is a little thin, considering how resinous the beer seems otherwise, but it still fits the brew.

Look- pretty golden beer with frothy white head good retention and lacing

Smell- pine resin not dank though. Touch of lemon maybe

Taste- a little sweet on the start, lots of piney bitterness.

Feel- loses a bit here because that hop lingers. Great if you like that sort of thing.

Overall- a decent IPA I would order again but nothing that stands out too much. Because of the lingering bitterness I would've more likely to combine this with foods that could compete.

Nice light bright golden straw with a big bubly effervescent head. The head settled to a thin ring and left a a sticky dried mess down the glass wall. Smells predominantly of pine resin and orange peel with a touch of wheat grain. Good but a little one dimensional on the nose. The taste however is spot on. It starts off mildly sweet with a wheat and grain breadiness. A juicy citrus, apricot and pear waters the most through the middle. A rush of orange zest and mild pine and cedar wood finishes the taste with a wonderful tingly tangy tartness. The feel is medium dry but again the fruityness and a mild saltiness finishes with a mouthwatering feeling that balances the dry hop feeling. Overall I'm a big fan of this IPA. The fruity citrus notes were spot o and refreshing. Well done.

Pretty thing out of the bottle, yellow gold and brilliantly clear, above average foam/retention/lacing. Smell is the highlight, lightly sweetened fruit and pine, a sort of delicateness about it all. Palate is nice enough, although that delicacy seems to take over, the sweet malt, even if light in stature, seeping in a bit much for this hophead's preference, little flits of sugar dusted pine and light tropical fruit popping up for interest but disappearing just as quickly. I dig the idea of a lighter, less brash IPA, but something about this feels wanting. Still, a perfectly fine brew.

Greenish gold color with a mild chill haze. Modest head. A couple of streaks for lace.

Grapefruit aroma. Mild pale malt in the background.

The hop is up front. Lots of grapefruit on the tongue. Absolutely no balance here. In fact, I may not detect any malt. Given the pale color, a lighter hop kick might be in order, if you love the hop bomb, this will be a very likeable beer. The carbonation leans to the bubbly side. The body is moderate.

Poured from the bottle into a Spiegelau IPA glass.

Thick, rich, and huge controlled ultra fine and thin bubbled head. Stands tall easily at four fingers, and an almost nitrous appearance but with thick classic retention. Bright white, island puck lacing, thick foam and just a head that wont quit or give. The body color is extremely light and pale, a fine crystal lemon gold with just a hint of fine carbonation, some bubbles rising quickly others slowly. Stunner of an IPA on the eyes.

Classic pine notes and airy hints of spruce like hop come out, just a touch of brown sugar like sweetness of malt too on the nose. Clean, airy, nice almost biscuit notes kicking in as well. Excellent aroma and more on the simple and subtle side.

Palate hits with a much lighter than expected feel but full onslaught of classic flavors. Airy pine and slight toasted malt in the mid palate. Herbs of green and dark almost rosemary like flavors linger after the sip. Excellent spicy almost hot pepper like controlled finish with excellent bone like dryness on the aftertaste like a good glass of champagne. Crisp and big pop and herbal spiced finish of hop. Crackling finish with an airy palate, the mouthfeel stays out of the way and keeps it simple.

A real nice take on an IPA, always would like to have more of these NW goodies from time to time, and a real memorable one right here.

Deep yellow with frothy head that disappears. Smells juicy with citrus fruit, also malt. Taste is everything I want in an IPA. Malt and hops blend into a floral sensation with resin and not too bitter finish. The hops linger on the tongue pleasantly. Love this beer.
