Availability: Summer

Notes / Commercial Description:
One of our most peculiar and delicious barrel-aged concoctions. This beer harkens back to the days when our barrel-aging program had only a few barrels in it, and one of those beers was a blend of a sour wheat beer with a double wit in a single second-use gin barrel. The result was delicious: tropical, botanical, tart, malty and very refreshing for a barrel-aged beer. We've recreated this beer adding some kaffir lime leaves for additional complexity and fun herbal notes.

Descriptors: Botanical, lime, tart, spicy.

On tap at Row 34 in Boston.

Pours a light amber, with a really nice, fluffy foam.

Smell is unusual, a lot of lime, some gin and yeast. Sorts of like a Gin & Tonic with a bunch of limes in it.

Taste is just... weird, but in the best possible way. Yeasty Gin & Tonic, sort of, with a good helping of lime and some vanilla, I guess from the barrel. Very unique.

Mouthfeel is thin and crisp, lots of carbonation for a nice fizz.

Overall, this was one of the biggest surprises of my Boston trip. I was warned when I ordered it that I could return it if I didn't like it. Well, I didn't like it. I freaking loved it! Very unique, very innovative and just a treat, Also the first beer I try from Breakside, if I recall correctly. Could see how many people would hate this, tough.

22 oz bottle purchased in Hood River for $13. Poured into a wine glass. Beer is a gorgeous clear, straw yellow, with a thin head that leaves just a bit of lace. Aromas of juniper and lime. Taste is amazing, a very unique blend of flavors, with a great balance of sour and sweet. Mouth feel is about perfect, medium body, great carbonation, slightly dry. Overall, another wonderful gin barrel-aged beer from Breakside.

EBF pour. Poured hazy and dark yellow. Aroma was really zesty. Light tartness. Limey. Odd but intriguing. The flavor was less appealing but not by much. Lime, wheat, a weird residual zestiness. Slightly sticky. Gin flavor is there. Odd.

Appearance: Hazy, gold color with lively carbonation and a lingering thin head
Aroma: Key lime, coriander, gin, green apples
Taste: This taste like very similar to a gin cocktail I just had. The first flavor I detect is the Kaffir lime leaves, which pervades through the entire taste acting as more of a backbone for the rest of the flavors to build upon. Next, a tart and tangy medley of gin, wit yeast, tannins, slight acidity, citrus zest.
Mouthfeel: The mouthfeel is more full than I would expect with barrel aging and with the lively and sprite carbonation. I think this brings out the malt flavors better than if it had a lighter mouthfeel.
Overall: This is an extremely complex and delicious beer with odd ingredients and flavors that work seamlessly together.
