At Skellig Experience cafe. Maybe had sitting in bottle too long? Sister loved it, I'd like to try on draft

500ml bottle - what, no description of how 'Black Rock' pertains to the south of Eire?
This beer pours a solid black, with varied basal cola 'highlights' when pressed to the light, and three fat fingers of puffy, loosely foamy, and bubbly beige head, which leaves some decent howling ghost lace around the glass as it gently bleeds away.
It smells of roasted, mildly gamey caramel malt, an oily nuttiness, rather bitter cocoa powder, faint salty black licorice, ethereal cold coffee, and plain earthy, weedy, and musty hops. The taste is bready, lightly toasted pale and caramel malt, pithy chocolate, mixed licorice and vanilla extract, weak day-old coffee, pithy nuts, and more generic earthy, dead leafy, and grassy noble hops.
The bubbles are fairly low-key, and mostly just supportive in their wan frothiness, the body a so-so medium weight, and generally smooth, a wee clamminess precluding any nascent creaminess. It finishes off-dry, the toasty malt, cocoa, coffee, anise, and nuttiness arranging themselves as such.
An interesting, if a bit too mealy of an Irish Dry Stout, overall - lots of flavour, just kind of disjointed in its rendering. Too bad, because I'm really starting to like these guys, bringing a new view to the Irish beer styles that have for too long been the purvey of the BBB (Boring Big Beer, for those not paying attention).

£2.99 for a 500ml Bottle in O'Reilly's, Ireland (North):
Black with the odd red tinge and a giant, dome-shaped head that is about two inches tall and foamy with good retention. Lots of sediment and lacing too.
Strong, dark malts with a lot of chocolate and some spice that includes some aniseed-like flavours. There is some light coffee on the nose along with plenty of earthy tones.
Rich chocolate with some strong, earthly malts and further cocoa. I got some hints of sweetness and a coffee flavour that comes through strong around the middle then slowly fades.
Rough with a hard bitterness from the coffee coming through along with an abundance of spice and a lingering aftertaste that is also quite bitter. The beer had a medium body and carbonation was soft, although the balance was quite poor.
Not a beer that I enjoyed all that much sadly and one again another beer will go down as a poor Irish offering in my book. Lots of large of sediment in the glass despite my care when pouring and an overly bitter, earthy taste in my opinion.
