I made the hour drive to Delaware to check this place out. My friend told me that Monday was all day happy hour and beers were half price.

Parking in Delaware always seems to be at a premium. I managed to find a spot around the corner. As I entered I noticed a diverse group of people. There were younger people in hats and hoodies and very well dressed professionals. The bar area was clean and modern looking with exposed brick on the west wall. There were a couple of tv's, one tuned to college basketball, the other to the cooking channel.

I was impressed with the tap selection. They had 27 beers on tap and I wanted to try the majority of them. I settled on a weizenbock and a couple IIPA's. The beers ranged in price from $5.50 to $11.50, but it was all day happy hour. So, $2.75 to $5.75 seemed reasonable.

They had plenty of servers available. I may not have always had my original bartender, but someone was there to make sure I had a drink.

I ordered smoked chicken ravioli. My date ordered steak. The steak came with mashed potatoes and grilled asparagus for which she substituted green beans. My food was delicious, and I got to try hers and it was equally good. My only complaint is that I was still hungry after my meal. I guess I'm used to gigantic portions that have left me morbidly obese.

Overall, the atmosphere was great. The food was great. The beer was great. The portion I got was less than anticipated. A side salad would have been perfect. The food was worth the money. If I would have had to pay full price for the drafts I would have felt overcharged. My recommendation is to go on Monday or during happy hour.

Awesome beer selection with a wide variety of beers. While the menu is somewhat small, all of the food is high quality. Their brunch menu on Sunday's is incredible.

Food is always great !

Probably my favorite place to grab a beer. I really like the half priced happy hour Mon-Fri. 1808 rotates 40 taps local/national craft options. Pretty much guaranteed to find something new. Friendly and knowledgeable staff that knows how to pour a proper pint !

Update . . .

The staff has recently had a change at the bar. Though the beer selection is still the best around and this is still my favorite place for a quick brew, the new girls have got to learn the beer and customers.

I'm a local, but I probably don't go to 1808 American Bistro often enough. I was there last night (2/28/14) with my girlfriend for dinner and a couple beers. The food never disappoints, nor does the beer selection.

The Food: While the menu isn't huge, what they do there, they do very well. They have a standard menu and a seasonal or specials menu. Last night we ordered the Salmon Filet and the Chicken Ravioli, both of which were excellent. We finished up by splitting an order of beignets. I'd highly recommend the beignets.

The Beer: They have over 40 craft beers on tap, definitely the best selection locally. They also have a good selection of local and regional beers. I like to go here to try stuff that I either haven't seen before or can't seem to find elsewhere. The beer selection is always changing. If you find something you really like you can also get a growler to go.

Overall atmosphere of the restaurant if upscale casual. So, it's a great place for a date night. My only knock on my experience last night was that the restaurant was a little too loud for my liking... nothing bad, just a bunch of people having lively conversations.

A gem in Delaware. We had a tremendous experience at 1808. The decor was pretty neat and I recommend going earlier in the evening to avoid waiting for a table. Or just plan on sitting at the cool bar.
They had well over 30 taps focused on local brews, some of which I had never heard of. One from just down the road in a small town called Marengo.

The food was very good and the attention to local sustainable and organic foods cannot be over stated. Paired with their amazing tap list this is one of the most complete places I've been to in central Ohio!

I'll get to the point. As a frequent traveler, I rely on Beer Advocate to help me discover new brew pubs in the area I'm visiting. Seeing none, I relied on Yelp to find me a decent place to eat instead. Up popped restaurant 1808. I went there for the food. I was amazed to find that 1808 also boasted an impressive selection of craft brews on draft. No Bud, Coors or Miller here. Instead, I was greeted with an array of carefully chosen IPAs, Imperial Stouts, seasonals, etc. I had the Bell's Hopslam. My only complaint is that the prices are a bit steep. They do have a half-off happy hour, which I missed. But, it's all day on Monday. So my advice is to go then, if you want a beer. The food was good too.

This is my favorite place to have a beer in central Ohio. Earlier reviewers noted the selection on tap, there are now 48 taps focusing on regional beers. 1808 occasionally has tap takeovers, the last was from Brew Kettle in early December with several more planned in the coming months. Monday is all day happy hour with half price pints, happy hour is 4-7 Tues thru Fri.

I am a regular so I'm not going to pretend to be an unbiased reviewer. However, I'm a regular because there's a great mix of people, good food and great beer. The service staff is professional and friendly. The menu is very good, weekend specials tend to be exceptional and a reasonable price )$$$). I recommend steaks and any seafood dish; the bacon hash served with the salmon will bring you back again and again.

1808 is committed to beer and I wouldn't be surprised if they continue to expand the taps. There fill their own growler's and at times will offer a special growler for a premium price that they will fill for half price for life.

This is an excellent place and I hope fellow craft beer lovers make the trek to Delaware to check it out

(Visited 02/2011 and a couple times since): 1808 (honoring the year Delaware, OH was founded) is located in downtown Delaware across from the history Strand Theatre on Winter off Sandusky. They have a decent size lot behind the restaurant but they are always busy so spots may be difficult to find.

The entrance opens to the bar area, with high table seating and a bar along the left wall. Through a door on the right is the restaurant seating area, which is open and does a good job balancing a modern feel with an older building complete with uneven, creaky floors.

1808's beer selection is solid. The 25+ draught menu changes monthly and always includes local options like Columbus Brewing, Neil House etc. Other craft brewers are represented like Victory, Stone, Bell's, DFH, Founders, and Southern Tier. A couple of imports like Hoegaarden and Wittekerke are available too.

Service has been consistently good on my visits. We have never sat at the bar so my beer knowledge expectations were not as high, but the servers have done a good job speaking to the available beers and styles.

Food at 1808 has been very good. We went the first time for Valentine's Day and their special menu and cocktails were awesome. I am also a big fan of their fried chicken.

Overall this place is highly recommended for Central Ohio beer lovers.

Located right across the street from the strand theater, I heard this place had micros on tap and decided to check it out. Boy was I surprised to find 30 micros including Bell's, Troegs, Chimay, Abita, Avery, Dogfish Head, Harpoon, Flying Dog, and more. They switch some of the beers out and keep others as regulars, you can see what is on tap on there website. During happy hour all beers on tap are half price except for the Van Honsebrouk St. Louis Framboise ($6). The bartender we had was extremely helpful and was even willing to let us sample a beer before we bought it to make sure we liked it. Getting a pint of two hearted ale for $2.25 on tap was amazing. My friend and I split two appetizers, the guacamole and the humus. We were told everything is made fresh every day and you could tell, both were excellent but a bit pricey. The food is a bit more than other local restaurants, but still tasty. I put the value is a bit pricey for the food, the beers during happy hour are a great value for most, and pricey for others. The atmosphere was very relaxed, and somewhat upscale. They have TVs on the bar walls, but were not on loud, definitely a place to go relax with friends and have good conversation. The bartender was knowledgeable about all the beers, and very attentive. We were there on a Wednesday night, and it was not very busy, we were told that the place is packed on the weekend. Definitely the best place in town for on tap micros, and worth checking out if you live in the area.
