This was poured into a mini snifter. The appearance was a dark brown close to black color with a thin tan head that dissipated within less than twenty seconds. Speckled lacing clings and falls adequately. The smell has a wonderful combination of spicy rye to blend into some chocolate and coffee. Light sweetness runs about to entice a light vanilla to even show its face. The taste was slightly sweet with the roast to also allow a nice little bit of rye spice. There’s a sticky sweet and semi-spicy rye aftertaste to lead into the finish. On the palate, this one sat about a medium to heavy on the body with a nice sipping quality about it. Carbonation seemed good for the style as it seems to have a nice smoothness to it. Overall, this was a well crafted Imperial Stout and to add the rye whiskey was a nice touch. If I had another, I’d love to age one.

2017 batch. Really poor Barrel Aged beer. Unless you know that it is supposed to be Rye Barrel Aged Imperial Stout it's really hard to distinguish it from just Imperial Stout. Maybe it wasn't aged long enough. Or just a bad batch. First time trying it. I like Full Pint and want to support local breweries but I'm really disappointed about this one.

Possibly the best "risk it and see" purchase I've ever made: cocoa, coffee and a light smokiness melds into vanilla-tinged bourbon/light rye spice. A picture-perfect example of a barrel-aged imperial stout that melds the best of its booze with a rich, complex, and deceptively easy-drinking experience. Rescue this from any shelf you may find it on.

A dark and smoky beer with a quickly fading brown head. The aroma is the aforementioned smoke, molasses, raisins, and a heavy malt presence. The taste is malt forward with chocolate, rye and smokiness with a sweet and bitter finish.

Poured into a narrow glass: color is solid black, light tan head, head presents 1/4 inch thick and lingers at least 1/8 inch thick, some lacing on the glass sides.

Smell is some moderate strength rye whiskey, solid booziness, moderate roast character some lighter coffee flavors.

Taste is on the order of the aroma with rye whiskey, boozy esters, some roast and coffee; roast and coffee come through more as it warms.

Mouthfeel is moderate with some crisp flavors then a fairly moderate drying quality.

Overall a very good aged imperial stout, pleasant rye whiskey character for the most part and some lingering roast and coffee flavors.

12oz. Bottle to snifter.

LOOK: thick black, like motor oil, minimal head.
AROMA: whiskey is very present, though not overpowering. Chocolate, caramel, raisin.
TASTE: charred malt and wood up front, whiskey/alcohol in the finish.
FEEL: thick and chewy, minimal carbonation. A little slimy.

Overall, a very nice beer. Something is missing, but I can't put my finger it. Maybe it is just too fresh for a bold stout like this. Unfortunately, I have only this one.
Still, this is very high quality....I am just expecting the world when I see the words Rye, Whiskey and Stout on the same bottle.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a tulip.

L: Pour is dark, dark brown... nearly black with no light getting through. Thin brown head that still manages to leave some lacing.

S: Roasted malts... coffee/espresso, chocolate, and booze.

T/F: Big time roasted malts and scorched sugars. Coffee is present in the background. A bit of char and vanilla from the barrels. Not nearly as boozy as I thought it would be and the rye adds a sharpness that is quite pleasant. Complex and more carbonation than I typically see in a barrel aged beer. Medium mouthfeel and the finish is dry and warm. Leaves some stickiness on my tongue.

O: This is a very nice whiskey-aged beer... and a 4-pack just might not be enough. Balanced and delicious... and this bad boy hides his ABV WAY too well. Gets even tastier as it warms. Sipping is key!

Great for a night cap - last beer of evening - almost like a massive glass of wine. Well done on all fronts. Try 24.

look: 4 | smell: 4.5 | taste: 4.5 | feel: 4 | overall: 4

Appearance: Pours a standard punch black with an inch of tan foam that resolves like an espresso cap, leaving lots of lacing to frame the glass.

Smell: I find it equal parts roast malt, chocolate, and rye whiskey.

Taste: Follows smell. Roasted malt and dark chocolate, up front, with rye whiskey becoming the core, framed by earthy, bitter hops that balance. The rye and whiskey continue past the swallow with oak wood and caraway that linger.

Mouthfeel: Totally full body with syrupy (good weight) feel and moderate carbonation.

Overall: Yay for originality found here in 4 kinds of rye and rye whiskey barrels. Brave. Try 24. But strictly 1 at a time. A sipping beer.
