Coffee black pour.

Fantastic nose to it. Dark chocolate, smooth whisky, roasted malt, and a little faint tobacco. One of the better smelling stouts I can recall.

The taste has a bunch of bitter dark chocolate, some sweetness from vanilla, and the rye whisky, though nowhere near what the smell would lead you to believe for me. Just a very nice compliment. Also a bit smokey.

Medium bodied. Not too thin, but if it were a tad heavier/creamier it wouldnt hurt.

Otherwise, my biggest complaint would be that it is too bitter in the aftertaste and a hair weak on flavor. Still an outstanding beer that doesnt drink like 11% either. Even at $16/4 pack this is a good barrel aged deal.

Vintage 2014

Pours a dark brown color with ruby edges. The thin layer of beige head quickly dissipates into oblivion. The nose has roasted notes but it is quite difficult to detect the rye whiskey. This offering is full bodied and the flavor profile has both roasted notes and the much anticipated rye whiskey essence. The whiskey presence is soft and merges nicely with the roasted bitterness on the finish.

This is well done and enjoyable, but it does not hold up to the very best barrel-aged stouts out there. Then again, I did not have to wait in line and deal with a one or two bottle limit to purchase this beer. So, there’s that…

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle. Has a black color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is of chocolate, some whiskey. Taste is whiskey, alcohol, some chocolate, roasted malts. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall is a bit different but an enjoyable beer.
