Purchased a growler at Bestway on 2/1/2012

Poured into a Rogue pint glass from a growler and the brew is dark brown with a 1/2" medium tan head quickly giving way to a ring around the glass with minimal splotchy lacing.

The aroma is roasted malts with some sweetness also coming through.

The flavor follows the nose and what is this No Chocolate or Coffee flavor??? Throw this brew in jail your honor for not fornicating us with these adjuncts. How dare a lowly brewery not conform and add these flavorings, but I'll be damned ... ain't it nice.

I love the coffee and chocolates, but this is a very nice straight up American Stout. Perhaps a touch lighter on the mouthfeel than Rogue's Chocolate, or Bell's Kalamazoo, or even Sammy Adams Black & Brew, but man this is an easy drinker.

Well balanced and (daymed, that's one pint killed) one I would go back to after the numerous heavy Imperial Stouts that I have imbibed upon this winter season.

Since the style description is sooo wide open, I can't find anything to knock this brew about, perhaps a tad more head and lacing but other than that it's fine by me. Cheers !

Poured from a growler into a Cigar City pint glass.

A: Pours a dark jet black color with a motor oil like appearance. Barely noticed a light tan head that recedes quickly.

S: Smells of roasted malts and hints of chocolate and some licorice.

T: Tastes like it smells. Huge chocolate taste and some underlying coffee notes.

M: Light carbonation and light bodied.

O: A fairly decent American Stout that replaced the old Eddy Stout.
