This place is all about atmosphere...and great beer of course ("8 foot drop" is a must-try for DIPA lovers). Located across the street from the Great Smokey Mtn Railway station, walk up the wooden stairs into a wide-open area that resembles an old-fashioned mountain lodge. A warm, inviting place to enjoy some of the best craft brews in the Ol' North State! A great way to end a day of riding the Tail of the Dragon, or hiking the Smokey Mountains!
Update...Don't know why, but they don't fill growlers anymore (10-07-17...claimed they had too many complaints about "flat/bad beer...which should be BS as everyone knows growlers aren't meant for more than 24-48hrs at most!) This is only an issue for those of us that visit the area once a year and like to enjoy their brew elsewhere, i.e. our hotel room across the street from the casio in Cherokee. AND...they stated they do not produce 8ftDrop anymore! WTH?!?!?!?
Update#2...What used to be an awesome place when the tap-house was in the Quonset hut, but alas is now just a typical, run-of-the mill bar and grill. Brews are still on point, but atmosphere is lacking IMHO! Like the original place better.

This place is dying a not-so-slow death.....was told That Cigar City has invested in saving their ass, and that's a good thing. They need some direction and a team with a clue.
Desperation was hangin in the air, their flagship ipa was out (on a weekend afternoon in May?), so they offered me one from another brewery! Lots of items crossed of menu, and just a bummer this (last ) time. Needs rebranding experts.
Mountain Layers has become the best local brew in Bryson, and the KILLER BCO taproom which has great craft brews from all over.

Nice to have beer near the woods but it seems this place would rather be a novelty than actual quality craft beer brewery. Great service here vs the Brewpub but still not the best beer within driving distance.

Seems they care more about their expensive looking facade than making quality beer. Standard selection with plenty of not-that-great kettle sours too. Off flavors in many beers but overall very boring beers. They are obviously more concerned about grabbing a quick buck (everything is overpriced as well) from passing tourists than making quality beer and having repeat consumers. Better than Mountain Layers (other brewery in town) but that's not really saying much. If you're not a real craft drinker, you'll be blown away, but most true craft fans will pick up on the lack of complexity and creativity quickly. The craft beer potential for the area is limitless, but it's a shame they don't want to embrace that and blow people away with their beer instead of their rustic cabin vibe.

Great cavernous, woody-smelling hang, right on the GSMRR trax in Bryson. Large selection of top notch brews, schwag, projector screens and a nice, but small jam stage, very helpful and knowledgeable staff (shout out Cory). Killer local harvest foods menu on their other place down the block. Trail Mutt, Porter, Stout, Brown...you name it, and they probably have one that is good to great. Every thing I had there I will get again..

Yes, I gave them all 5's. These guys totally have it going on! Make it here a few times a year and they never disappoint. Dog friendly laid back vibe, your dog can literally walk up to the bar with you. Product is always fantastic. No food but you can bring in stuff or use their grill. Surrounding trails are world class.

Visited on a Friday evening on a holiday weekend.

Crowded, but large enough that was not a problem at all. Kid and dog friendly. Beers i had were good. Brewing tanks visible behind bar through windows, nice. Large stage. Bathrooms decent not great. Fun place. In what seems like a touristy area, I'm sure they do pretty well.

I have been here several times, always in the fall between October and December. The selection has been incredible and I have enjoyed the majority of the beers I sampled. The atmosphere is very cool and kid friendly. Cornhole and other games setup inside the main bar (which is open to the elements), and there is a great pizza place next door where you can get take out. They sell bottles of several beers and fill growlers also. Growlers are unique because they only sell what is pre-filled in the cooler, so not everything is an option and they only take their glass growlers on deposit. I would recommend to anyone in the Bryson City or surrounding areas. Great selection of unique merchandise also and a smaller bar that is heated for the winter months.

Nantahala seems to be the bar in Bryson City. It's right across the street from the Great Smoky Mountain Railroad depot. The first thing to catch your eye is the large, spacious, outdoor seating area, umbrellas and tables galore. The main entrance is grand. High ceilings, exposed beams, and a long, well lit bar highlight the interior. An impressive stage sits off to the left with a good sized open floor in front. The Saturday night I visited had a band playing and what seemed like every local singing, clapping, and drinking. There was certainly a buzz and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves.

There were 10-12 house beers on tap and a handful of NC guest taps. Bottles were also available but a little pricey. All of the house beers I sampled ranged from good to excellent and I sampled a lot. The guest taps were also very good, Mother Earth Silent Night being the best of the bunch, and damn good it was! The staff was super friendly. laid back, and quick to offer some local travel tips even with a busy bar. I spent most of my time out on the patio on a beautiful NC night. Everyone seemed to know everyone else and a lot of fun was being had.

Nantahala was great! Everything from the atmosphere, patrons, staff, and beer were all enjoyable. I had an excellent, fun, laidback time at this place and would highly recommend it to anyone that asked. A great brewery in a great part of America.

pretty tasting room, but we were in the "green room" smaller tasting area, probably because it was pretty slow on a Wed pm. Very pleasant bartender, very knowledgable about all the offerings. Everything we had was good, double pale ale, porter, strong ale, certainly a good stop if you are in the area and it is after 4pm!

The atmosphere at Nantahala was very nice. Long bar with comfortable bar stools and a couple of TV's. I liked the fact that they offered 4 oz samples for a buck and a half. This works well for those who are not sure what they want and for those with wives that wont drink a full pint. The cream ale was very smooth as was the 4 foot drop pale ale. I would highly recommend.

You walk into a large warehouse-like room with a couple of tables, some dart boards and a couple of cornhole boards. There is a large bar running the width of the room in the back, ~20 barstools. I liked the atmosphere/feeling of the place, but the doors were open and it was ~50 degrees inside. Given that my buddy and I had actually come in from a 4 day GSMNP trip that finished on a cold note, I actually went back to the car to get my hat and that was with us sitting under the heat lamps.

They don't serve food, but gave us a menu for the pizza place next door and said we were welcome to carry in, so we did. Pizza was not the best ever, but tasted great after 40 miles on the trail.

I had the Octoberfest and the porter, which were both very good. My friend had a 9% IPA with lemongrass and Sorachi Ace hops (the taste I had was great), I think he then had the "regular" IPA (he said that was fine, but nothing special). We finished by splitting a 750ml of the Trail Magic RIS which was supposedly bourbon barrel aged with some other stuff that I can't remember. We had it at room temperature (~55 degrees given the room). The bourbon barrel was very restrained, almost like it was a second fill, but the beer was excellent, very smooth with a little sweetness to balance the roast.

All in all, this was an excellent place to leave the trail. I suspect that we will plan some future trips to end here as well. I don't know what else is in Bryson City, but Nantahala Brewing Company is well worth a stop.

I can't believe this awesome little brewery buried deep in the Appalachians has not yet been reviewed.

The brewery lies in the heart of downtown Bryson City right in front of the Great Smoky Railroad depot. It is located in an old renovated warehouse which gives it a great log Cabin homey kind of feeling. A wonderful atmosphere to partake in some craft beer drinking and sampling.

The quality and service at Nantahala Brewing are outstanding. Joe the bartender and caretaker is courteous and up on all the ins and outs of the brewery. I was lucky enough one weekend to meet Chris the head brewer and his wife who not only let me back in the brewery, but took time to give me a decent insight behind the scenes of brewing beer, great people who really love the craft beer scene.

Now to the beer, I'm a big IPA guy and that's Nantahala's signature brew, Noon Day IPA. It is nothing short of spectacular if you like floral, piny IPA's. They also have an excellent brown ale and a pretty decent pale ale. The times I have been there they always seem to have a guest beer on tap.

Overall a great brewery that always has me coming back when I visit Western Carolina at my buddy's Cabin.
