Style: American Double / Imperial Stout

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 8.00%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
Son of a Baptist is an 8% ABV imperial stout. It is not barrel aged like its father, Big Bad Baptist; instead its flavor profile was designed to highlight the complex and often unique flavors of small batch coffees. Instead of sourcing a coffee that would play well in a beer we sought out creative and innovative roasters, then asked them which beans they’re passionate about. Each resulting release of Son of a Baptist is widely different depending on the coffee selected. Some are fruity and sweet with notes of jam and chocolate, others are rich and earthy with a big roasted finish. Each limited release will return to the Roaster’s home market where the beer and the coffee can be sampled side by side.

Poured into a shaker pint glass.

Look: Black Death? Dirty motor oil. Midnight on the bottom of the sea. The head is cream colored and leaves a trace on top after it recedes. Weird squiggly lines for lacing.

Aroma: After charred malts and deep dark coffee roast, it's decadent dark chocolate with hints of dark fruits.

Taste: A perfect blend of rich dark roasted coffee beans with a touch of smokiness with flavors of milk chocolate and dark jam.

Mouthfeel: Medium to heavy but very smooth.

Overall: Absolutely delicious. Few words could more easily describe it.

Black in color and impenetrable to light. There's a fingernail of brown around the rim and covering half of the top. The nose is sweet milk chocolate and bitter dark roasted coffee. I'm tasting milk chocolate for a split second on the front of the palate, but it quickly succumbs to bitter, dark roasted coffee. The mouth is oily, chewy, and a bit thick.

Nitro tap

Pours jet opaque black. Nitrous head is very finely textured, quarter inch thick, dissipates to a film and retains indefinitely.

Smells faintly of cocoa, coffee and toast.

Flavor is bold coffee and dark unsweetened chocolate. Toasted bread malts and mesquite undertone. Hints of pecan and walnut. Caramel aftertaste.

Body is medium full and velvety smooth. Very slight booze warmth.

Fantastic stout and perfect nitro candidate. A real treat. Very slow sipper due to potency and richness. Definitely try this.

12oz can "Pack ID: Cultivar" poured into a pint glass
A: Dark brown, almost pitch black with a 1/2-finger tan head
S: Coffee and bitter cocoa
T: Again lots of coffee and bitter cocoa, vanilla and a bit of chocolate malt
M: Full-bodied, very smooth
O: This is pretty tasty. Doesn't quite fit the summer weather but enjoyable nonetheless4

Epic coffee stout brewed with Doma coffee. 8% ABV.
12 oz can at Jenny Lake, WY.
Opaque black brown body with a large foamy beige head. Very good retention.
Earthy coffee and black bread in the nose.
Nice malt forward, rich flavor. Good, bitter sweet balance: lightly bitter. Hearty.
Smooth full feel with soft carbonation.

Pours a jet black color and smells of rich coffee with plenty of malt. Tastes fully rich and goes down smooth. One of the best coffee stouts I've ever had. Will buy many more in the future.
