Son Of A BaptistSon Of A Baptist
Notes: Son of a Baptist is an 8% ABV imperial stout. It is not barrel aged like its father, Big Bad Baptist; instead its flavor profile was designed to highlight the complex and often unique flavors of small batch coffees. Instead of sourcing a coffee that would play well in a beer we sought out creative and innovative roasters, then asked them which beans they’re passionate about. Each resulting release of Son of a Baptist is widely different depending on the coffee selected. Some are fruity and sweet with notes of jam and chocolate, others are rich and earthy with a big roasted finish. Each limited release will return to the Roaster’s home market where the beer and the coffee can be sampled side by side.

Poured into a shaker pint glass.

Look: Black Death? Dirty motor oil. Midnight on the bottom of the sea. The head is cream colored and leaves a trace on top after it recedes. Weird squiggly lines for lacing.

Aroma: After charred malts and deep dark coffee roast, it's decadent dark chocolate with hints of dark fruits.

Taste: A perfect blend of rich dark roasted coffee beans with a touch of smokiness with flavors of milk chocolate and dark jam.

Mouthfeel: Medium to heavy but very smooth.

Overall: Absolutely delicious. Few words could more easily describe it.

Pours a jet black color and smells of rich coffee with plenty of malt. Tastes fully rich and goes down smooth. One of the best coffee stouts I've ever had. Will buy many more in the future.

Very well-done coffee stout. Nice dark black color with some tan head and lingering lacing. Smells of dark roast coffee, vanilla and caramel. Tastes of dark coffee, vanilla, malt, caramel and a little dark chocolate. Nice smooth flavors, mild mouthfeel, good amount of carbonation. Basically no bitterness and nice coffee aftertaste. Will check out others from this brewery.

12oz can, served in a snifter glass. Pours a dark black body, mocha head, one finger with lots of lacing, good retention. Smell is burnt espresso, intense cocoa, milk chocolate. It's not a complicated nose, but it smells good, and you can really pick things out. It's unabashedly straightforward. On the flavour side, it's a bit sweeter and not as acridly bitter from the cocoa and coffee, more milk chocolate and even a little bit of lactose comes out. Fair bit of cocoa and espresso, be warned. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, creamy, good carbonation, smooth with a bitter cocoa and coffee bean finish. It's interesting how bitter this is compared to the barrel aged BBB's- clearly, the whiskey adds a fair bit of sweetness to balance out the coffee and cocoa. Tasty nonetheless, and just like the BBB, a relatively great deal in the craft beer world.

Almost opaque dark copper, tall but short living foam, fine mousse. Coffee nose. Medium to full body, lean texture, very flavorful, good carbonation and heat, lingering aftertaste, tasty finish. Moderately bitter, dry, crisp. Amazingly tasty and superior coffee flavor, dark and milk chocolate behind it. Well rounded, nicely tasting stout

It does what it says on the label exceptionally well, and nothing extra. A strong, but not overpowering coffee taste with cacao coming in to even the taste at the end. Highly recommend trying on nitro, if available.
