Poured from bottle to teku
Look is an effervescent cranberry with a thin white head.
Nose has musty and wine like qualities
Acidic on the tongue, but juicy on the finish.
Worth trying if you see it on a shelf!

375 ml bottle into tulip glass; release #01, late 2016 vintage. Pours slightly hazy/cloudy golden amber/light pink color with a 1 finger fairly dense and fluffy off white head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of lightly tart/tangy blueberry, cranberry, raspberry, strawberry, cherry, plum, peach, lemon, green apple, white wine, almond, hay, straw, oak, vanilla, wheat, cracker, light musty funk, and yeast/oak earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of fruity/funky/acidic yeast, fruit, oak barrel, and moderate pale malt notes; with good strength. Taste of lightly tart/tangy blueberry, cranberry, raspberry, strawberry, cherry, plum, peach, lemon, green apple, white wine, almond, hay, straw, oak, vanilla, wheat, cracker, light musty funk, and yeast/oak earthiness. Light fruity/lactic tartness and yeast/oak spiciness on the finish. Lingering notes of blueberry, cranberry, raspberry, strawberry, cherry, plum, lemon, green apple, white wine, almond, hay, straw, oak, vanilla, wheat, cracker, light musty funk, and yeast/oak earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Great complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/funky/acidic yeast, fruit, oak barrel, and moderate pale malt flavors; with an awesome malt/tartness balance, and zero puckering flavors after the finish. Light dryness from tartness, lightly increasing through the glass. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, fairly grainy/acidic, and lightly tannic balanced mouthfeel that is great. Zero warming alcohol for 8.2%. Overall this is an excellent fruited wild ale. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/funky/acidic yeast, fruit, oak barrel, and moderate pale malt flavors; very smooth and easy to drink with the mellow tartness/acidity. Not as sour or funky as I expected; this still had nice Brett complexity, with plenty of fruit and oak presence, without being overpowering. A very enjoyable offering.

I broke my dollar/ounce rule for this beer, and I fully expect it to live up to the expectations this damn bottle sets for itself! Look at that presentation! A heavy, 375 mL bottle with the cap and neck dipped in raspberry-red wax and featuring a tag emblazoned with the variety of fruits this wonderful beer was aged on. In Pinot barrels. And it's 8.5%... can't wait for this one!

Pours a beautiful amberish hazy color with a slight rosé-tinge to it. The pour was very eventful, with a huge, enveloping and spritzy bone-white head of brittle bubbles that sank down to a very thin ring in my glass over the course of several minutes. Kind of like a longer lasting champagne with some residual foam. No lace. Decent carbonation coming up from the bottom pretty consistently.

Nose is very fruit forward; a bit jammy, lots of stem-y blueberry and bright cranberry notes. Strawberries provide some delicate sweetness here too, working with the Brett which provides some rustic funkiness and some white wine-like young oaky tannins to balance it all out. This is an incredible smelling brew with a clear and dedicated appreciation of nuanced fruit flavors and subtleties. Putting all this on top of an 8.5% base beer is an intense exercise in balance, and it comes out at the top of the pack in this realm.

Palate is very bright, spritzy and naturally flavored with big and bright raspberry and strawberry notes, hay-like rustic funk, some wheaty heft and a spicy herbal component towards the finish. Fairly good linger to the flavor; pretty much tastes like slightly-carbonated juice with some funk and oak in there as well. Not as great as the nose led me to believe, honestly, but it's pretty great in its own way. Jammy like the nose suggested, but a bit less consistently-robust in terms of mouthfeel than I'd like for an 8.5% barrel aged fruit beer. Has more of a sparkling wine-like feel to it which makes sense with the flavor. This is great. Wish I had more. Might have to go back and buy the Syrah barrel one to try it for comparison purposes...
