12.7oz bottle, Release #6:Plum. Label is stamped 7.5%ABV. Waxed top. Twined hanging ID tag.
Cloudy, plum colored body. Slight off white head quickly disappears. Shows an interrupted ring from rising bubbles. No lacing.
Aroma of lemon sour, plum, and oak barrel.
Taste of lemon, plum, and oak barrel. This is a sour ale, not tart, this is sour. Dry finish into the after taste. Whiskey barrel is a flavor element but blends rather than dominates.
Medium body. Again this is a dry finishing beer.
Solid sour with the plum and whiskey barrel. When one wants to have a sour beer, this is a good choice because the additional flavors all blend in so well.

Really good, hoped for more whiskey though. Fruity with a crisp and light carbonation. The aroma is my favorite part of this beer! Fantastic overall but the price is a little iffy for me given that I'm no sour expert

its hard to ever have something like this taste bad, especially from a professional operation like epic, but this isnt incredible by the now extremely high standards being established for american wild ale. its got a flanders red vibe to it in look and sour profile, with a chestnut and red color, and with a fruited vinegar and red wine sourness, not overly complex, and not really as malty and robustly bodied as i thought this might be. plum is also a really tough fruit to get to come through, so i was surprised they went with a darker sour instead of something a little more delicate so that the plums would be more obvious. i could drink this not knowing what it is and pick up a generic fruitiness, more berry and wine than plum to me, so that aspect i think was a bit underdeveloped, but that tang of the skins is there when i look for it, however this is pretty darn sour so its only for a flash. this is a little thin in feel for me, a little simplistic, lacking the kind of complexity i look for in this type of thing, acidity trumps funk, fruit is really light, and although i thought this was quite good overall, it does not distinguish itself to me in any meaningful way. perhaps context did it in, we opened this along with a bunch of amazing beers in the category, and it may have been lost in the shuffle some. still, i have liked others in the series quite a bit more than this one...

Semi-opaque brown body with a frothy tan pinky finger of head. Smells of sour plum, dark cherry skins, red grape, blackberry, leather, light whiskey and solid oak. Taste is more sour than the nose let on, focusing more on the plum, red grape and dark berries, whiskey is present but weak, oak adds to the sour taste. Feel is thin for style, malts just aren't up to the sourness and light acidity.
