Notes / Commercial Description:
Hopulent IPA is a big beer with lots of complex malt flavor and excessive hops. This beer will have changes to the grain bill and seasonal hop changes. The character of Hopulent IPA is over the top, too much of everything—a real HOP HEADS DELIGHT!

Found a bomber on the shelf at my local Trig's. No bottled on date, but it has a release # of 112 and a DEN# 2139 (which means very little to me). Poured right from the fridge into my Lakefront pint glass.

L: Pours extremely hazy--lots of particulate in this one. Because it's so opaque, it's hard to pin down a single color for this one. It's probably best described as a copper rust color (though it's a very pale copper at the edges). About three-quarters-of-an-inch of off-white head falls fairly quickly, but there's good cling. Plenty of visible carbonation, despite the haziness of this one.

S: Not much of a bouquet on this. There's bread and caramel malt notes, with just a suggestion of pine/earthy hops in the mix.

T: There's sweetbread malt notes at the front which immediately begin vying with the hops for attention. The hops flavors at the front are earthy and robust--a bit more piney/resinous than funky. Clear alcohol emerges in the middle, mingling with the sweetness of the malts. The back end is hops and booze all the way: lots of resinous hop flavor mingling with a lingering clear alcohol. A bit more boozy than I'd like, but the overall taste is enjoyable.

F: This one is on the heavier side of medium-bodied. It's creamy, effervescent, and sticky in turns. Though not overly syrupy, the bitter sticks to the palate quite well.

O: I'm happy I picked this one up. It's by no means a world-class DIPA, but it definitely isn't afraid to bring big, bold hop flavor. I noticed how others have mentioned this as being too sweet from the malts, but I felt that the balance was just fine. My only gripe, if anything, was that it didn't hide its ABV very effectively. Otherwise, I definitely recommend picking one of these up.

It's cool that this beer changes with the seasons/available ingredients, but the version I had was a little disappointing. Certainly hoppy, but with an overpowering malt sweetness that I find masks the nuances of this beer. Feels heavy (after all, it is a DIPA), but better examples of the style like Ballast Point Dorado or New Glarus' Scream seem to hide their heft, making for a more drinkable beer.

Had this on nitro - creamy and smooth; drank very easy. Not much aroma, but nice flavor with pronounced hops.

A visual joy in the glass, just a touch hazy with orange and tan color, a real nice off-white head that lasted and lasted and left sticky lace.

Hopulent is a good name for it. It's hoppy. But it's pretty balanced (as much as possible, since"balanced" is an oxymoron when it comes to IPAs). The description says it will change with different batches with different malt profiles and hops. I like that. Since this beer is a tasty one, I'd like to try different versions of it and see what they come up with. Good job on this one.

A: Hazy tea tinted gold under a 2” foam collar composed of uniform, fine bubbles that cling to the side of the glass leaving sheets of lace.
S: Citrus and grapefruit, some earthiness.
T: Fruity palate with citrus, apricot, grapefruit, light caramel, biscuit, gives way to a big grapefruit rind bitterness.
F: Creamy smooth, medium to a touch above on the body, medium carbonation, slight astringency from the hops on the finish.
O: A big, bold double IPA with everything dialed up to 11.

Citra hops. L: golden, almost orange. S: a bit delicate, Citra. T: Citra, sweet, orange marmalade, bitter finish. F: medium heavy body for an ipa; would prefer a drier finish. O: good display of Citra, but sweeter than I'd prefer.
