Style: American Double / Imperial IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 8.40%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
Hopulent IPA is a big beer with lots of complex malt flavor and excessive hops. This beer will have changes to the grain bill and seasonal hop changes. The character of Hopulent IPA is over the top, too much of everything—a real HOP HEADS DELIGHT!

Nitro version. Enhanced the feel and finish and overall improved this IIPA which was pretty ordinary.

Appearance - This is a beauty shop. The golden liquid is lightly toned with orange and the beautiful white head puffed up just right and showed great retention.

Smell - This has a righteous hop bouquet and is perfectly balanced with pine, herbs, and a wonderful juicy orange citrus. The malts though are largely absent.

Taste - The grain comes out more in the taste. It is a bit rough around the edges but still quite pleasant. The hops flavor is just as good at the tongue as it was on the nose. The citrus that I enjoyed so much at the smell comes on even a bit more at the taste.

Mouthfeel - This is medium-bodied but just barely with some light carbonation and a good amount of bitterness.

Drinkability - This is an easy-going ale. If it really is a double it's borderline though, but classifications aside it is quite enjoyable

A - frothy off-white head leaves a spattering of lacing at the top of the glass. Body is golden and crystal clear; sometimes there's some particulate yeast but not this time.
S - zesty lemon and grapefruit, but it's a rather mild nose. A fresher bottle might have helped here
T - a bit tart and very bitter with lemon and grapefruit zest controlling the palate. Malt is mild and more like pilsner than anything. Some grassy and piny hops and a very slight herbal aspect in there as well
M - medium body, moderate carbonation, finishes bitter and dry
O - one of my favorite IPAs. Delicious and refreshing. One of the best year round IPAs out there.

Aroma: citrusy, resiny American hops dominate with sweet malt in the background mellowing the hops and giving depth. Appearance: Hazy amber with a white creamy head and medium lace. Laces the glass all the way down. Flavor: starts with a blend of fruit, malt and hops and then the hops grow to dominate the finish with strong grapefruit flavors. There is malt sweetness and sweet fruit in the background. Very pleasantly flavored with a nice balance between the hops, malt and yeasty fruit. Mouthfeel: medium carbonation, refreshing, Overall: I would drink this again.

Bomber purchase in Utah. Release # 116
Poured a hazy burnt orange, small off white head that quickly dissipated leaving lacing that recedes fairly quick.
Smell is slight hedging towards earthy / danky. Some pine and caramel.
Feel is mildly carbonated with a bit of creaminess to it.
Decent taste, plenty bitter, mostly piney, earthy, slight citrus with very little alcohol coming through.

Had this on nitro and gave it a very unique, to me, feel and flavor profile. The bitterness and smooth nitro make it almost a dry Hopped cream ale. Really tasty and good.

Pours a clear gold with plenty of foam that lasts and does well with the lacing.

The smell is is a mix of caramel malt and grain with the hops well represent by pine.

Even Steven on the first few sips between the malt and hops but I notice the alcohol kick more. The malt is sweet but also has a grain like character to it. The hops have pine but to me, it has more of an aspirin like bitterness.

Close to full bodied with medium carbonation.

This is decent but a rather difficult beer to drink not only taste wise but because the alcohol is intrusive. I am not likely to revisit.

Overall, a little underwhelming. Not bad, by any means, but frankly didn't have the full body or flavor to really justify the DIPA label.
