Notes / Commercial Description:
Hopulent IPA is a big beer with lots of complex malt flavor and excessive hops. This beer will have changes to the grain bill and seasonal hop changes. The character of Hopulent IPA is over the top, too much of everything—a real HOP HEADS DELIGHT!

My wife picked up this bottle in our continuing quest to knock off as many Epic beers as possible, which we've been thoroughly enjoying. 22 oz. bottle split in two with a small axe.

The pour, oh, the pour. A double handful of floaties flash into the goblets, more in one, but plenty in the first pour, too. They're white & pretty, suspended in an amber haze like trapped insects from the pre-Cambrian era. I wait for them to drift into a low layer on the bottom of the glass. Smell is sweet for a IIPA, twined with sugary orange. Hmmm.

Hopulent is a sickle sweet IIPA. Huge dose of malt, sticky & sugary, coat the palate like cat hair on a sweater. Black hair, white sweater. Battling past that, there's plenty of orange & tangerine to please the tongue, backed up with a battery of hop bitterness on the back end that eventually cuts through the malts. Balanced. It's a four-letter word. Look it up. Real 'purty mouth on this one. The orange fruits are a nice contrast to usual dark fruits & citrus/pine.

Very good beer that's growing on me as the liquid level in my glass slowly slides downward. Unique hopping here.

Lightly hazed orange with thin off white head. Aroma is caramel malts, fresh hop bouquet, citrus. Flavor is resiny, oily, a little pungent and a little tropical. Actually, pretty nice combination of hop flavors. The base is laid down by caramel/biscuity malt. The more I sip, the more I like this hop combination. Very nice. Solid feel to it and nicely drinkable.

Served on nitro tap in a pint glass

Appearance – The beer is served a golden orange color with a one finger head of nitro driven foam. The head has a fantastic level of retention, slowly fading over time to leave tons of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.

Smell – The aroma of the brew is big of an herb and grassy hop smell along with some aromas of citrus and bread. Mixed in with these aromas comes a little bit of grain and yeast, producing a rather inviting aroma overall.

Taste – The taste begins with a rather nice smooth bready and slightly doughy flavor mixed with notes of an earthy hop and a bit of herb. As the taste advances the earth and herb grow slightly stronger and then maintain a presence to the end of the taste. Along with these hops comes some lighter citrus hop flavors of a citrus nature as well as some tropical fruit sweetness. With a little bit of grain and some yeast coming at the very end, one is left with a rather nice and smooth bready and hopped taste to linger on the tongue.

Mouthfeel – The body is creamy and thick due to the nitro pour of the brew. For the malty tastes the feel was rather nice with the creaminess actually accentuating nicely the mix of hops and malt that are present in the brew.

Overall –This was a rather tasty IPA overall. I had a nice feel, hop profile and malt bill. I enjoyed this one overall. I have to search this one out on non-nitro to see what it is like with normal carbo.

HOPULENCE, I HAS IT!!! Purchased at Bruery Provisions.

Nice orange pour, good 5/8" head on it, not much for retention though. Aroma, not a huge dry hop aroma, its there, but nothing to write home of really. A bitter piney existence.

Taste, damn, mostly bittersweet, nothing like the green lush hop mouthfeels you hope for, especially when you get pine initially. Pine turns to copper throughout the drinking experience. Chewy malt mouthfeel. Sticky at times. Alcohol plenty noticeable. There's some sweet, but it comes nowhere near the prominence of the bitterness. I prefer less malt, sweet, bitter and more of a lighter body and more hop exposure.

Would not buy again given the $8ish price at Provisions.

22oz bottle of batch #73 $5.99. This was brewed here in Denver and uses Mosaic hops. It smells like piss. Cat piss actually. No, it smells like a cat's litter box that has been pissed in because I also detected a hint of cat shit in the aroma. As you can guess this beer smells bad. Orange color, translucent mostly, good head. The aroma is just too much for me, made me not want to drink the beer. Flavor was ok but was more fruit than ammonia or cat pee. Overall, its good this beer is priced low because it just wasn't very good. No repeat purchases for me and my second let-down from Epic's new Denver brewery.

A very nice looking brew. A golden orange color with a two-finger head of off-white suds that retain well and produce some generous lacing.

Smells exactly like some dry hop cones. A bit light, but pretty pure smelling.

Pretty boozy up front with a strong honey malt sweetness that cut into the bitterness a bit. Not to be outdone, the hops pack a punch and still produce some strong bitter pine and grapefruit citrus notes. A hint of tropical fruit mixed in. Kind of surprised at how much the alcohol stands out in this one.

Pretty dry and crisp with some residual sweetness. Medium-full bodied with nice carbonation.

This is a nice beer, but I think the drinkability is a bit lower. Drinks like it's closer to 10% abv. A very hoppy brew that I enjoyed. Worth a try in my book.

On nitro tap at The Pint in West Lafayette, IN.

Reddish pour with a medium-sized, rocky head.

Smells earthy with some light, sharp nodes of citrus hops poking through. Not really strong or complex, but that might be because nitro tends to mute aromas (seriously, guys, can we stop it with the nitro pours for beers that aren't dry stouts?)

Tastes like it smells--a weakly flavored IPA with decent balance. Apparently the commercial description for this brew claims it has "excessive hops," which I think it grounds for a lawsuit. The hops would have maybe--maybe--seemed excessive in the mid-80s.

The lack of a hop explosion isn't a bad thing, of course. Often, it can be godsend. But you have to wonder exactly what Epic was going for with this IPA. It's drinkable, certainly, but I seriously doubt this is what they were intending to brew.

Had this on nitro and gave it a very unique, to me, feel and flavor profile. The bitterness and smooth nitro make it almost a dry Hopped cream ale. Really tasty and good.

A very nice balanced IPA.
A bit of citrus meets sticky pine to the nose.
Flavor comes through similarly, with a bit of bready maltiness to balance it out, yey still hoppy overall.
Finish is clean with a piney meets sweet slick follow.
Mouthfeel was very much where I like an IPA, not chewy, but with a bit of heft.

All in all, a very nice IPA.
