Notes / Commercial Description:
Brainless Belgian-Style Golden Ale is has a rich and complex malt flavor balanced with a little bit of spicy noble hops and strong influences of fermentation esters from the Belgian yeast used. Various Belgian like Rock Candies, hops and grains are employed to express variations within the style. Deceivingly drinkable, some liken theses ales to Devil sneaking up on you, so consume responsibly.

Picked this one up at the Utah State Liquor Store in St. George, Utah, based on the surprisingly low price (about 5 bucks for the bomber). I have been wanting to try the fruit versions of this one, but figured Id buy this one while I had the chance.

Poured a nice hazy dark golden color with a quickly disappearing white head. Aromas of Belgian yeast, candi sugar, spices and a hint of citrus zest. Medium to full bodied, sweet and a little cloying near the end.

Got this one in my Birthday BIF box from mdfb79 (Dan). Thanks, Dan!

Poured into a New Belgium globe.

Pours a clear orange with a big white head that drops rather quickly. Leaves some lacing.

Aromas of medicinal, herbal, and minty. Bubblegum. Some fruity esters, and alcohol.

Flavors of bubblegum, medicinal, herbal, and minty, just like it smells. Strange combination of flavors. A little alcohol heat. Fruit, a little pithy citrus rind. Some carbonic bite as well. Finish is long with a warm, medicinal quality.

Mouthfeel is medium, light alcohol burn, good level of carbonation.

Overall a good example of a belgian golden ale. A bit harsh between the alcohol heat and carbonation bite.

First beer from this brewery. Pours a light golden color that is quite clear with a bit of visible carbonation. Fairly-large white head lasts for a time before falling and leaving behind a bit of lace. The nose is typical for the style, though does not stand out. Yeast of course provides the dominant characteristics. Some white pepper as well as a bit of mild earth. The taste is a bit flat with some faint pepper and a bit of miscellaneous spice. A touch of alcohol as well, though overall it's pretty tame. A pretty good offering.

Served on-tap in a clear pint glass at Beer Run (Charlottesville, VA).

A: Clear golden with short 1/2-finger white head with nice lacing trailing down the glass.

S: Light fruity aromas of pear and apple, pale malt, and herbal, spicy hops are blunted by a fair amount of boozy alcohol.

T: The alcohol unfortunately is too forward and puts a damper on the estery yeast and light fruit flavors. The spicy hops and yeast contributions are especially good.

M: Silky smooth and a little too easy to consume despite its boozy profile. Carbonation has some bite and the body is medium-full.

D: A pretty good BSPA but a little to alcoholic for me.

There is no foam and its light in color. Notice how I got a good buzz from drinking half the bottle. I can't wait to try more from EPic..

22 ounce bottle. Pours a cloudy orange color with a initially large foamy white head. The aroma is spicy malts, banana, sweet citrus. The flavor is rich and spicy; huge almost bitter spices, banana and cloves, sweet fruity malts. Clean and fluffy. Nice!

Nice crisp straw-yellow. The head sticks around and the carbonation is visible and all is well.

I can smell some Saaz hops of sorts, maybe some other European hops, but it definitely smells like a pils. Slight bready toast coming through.

It tastes very Belgian-y just by the carbonation. The taste is mostly the Saaz-like hops and a dry malt base.

As far as mouthfeel goes, it kind of coats the entire inside of your mouth and is very drying. This leads to less drinkability but still a good brew especially for the price of a 22 oz.

22oz bottle purchased directly at the brewery.

A- Pours a crystal clear golden/straw with bronze highlights. Thin, whispy white head.
S- Bready malts with some belgian yeasty esters and a touch of sweetness.
T- Strong fruity sweetness, almost cloying. A bit more alcohol than I'd like.
M - Medium body; the sweetness makes it feel thicker than it really is.
D- Eh, I didn't really want to finish my glass, let alone a whole bottle. Too heavy, too sweet, and the alcohol burn in the finish doesn't help.

Overall- Not a fan. Powerful, yes, complex, no. Zero hops and an assault of sweetness. I won't be going back for more.

22 oz. bottle. Release #6, 8.7% abv.

Slight haze in a lemony-gold body. A finger of tight, gauzy, off-white head. Sea air hop funk mixes with cotton candy, tropical fruit, bretty cobweb, and faint metallic notes. Very nice.

Bright, toasted, slightly sweet malts up front. Powdered sugar and tropical fruits build and grassy hops around edges. Peppery, herbal, mildly bitter hoppiness in the finish. Long finish with yeasty fruits, minor Brett funk, slightly warming alcohol, and banana aftertaste. Medium-full body with a lively feel. I really like the funky edge to this beer. Well done and tasty!

My first rating:

22 Oz bomber served in a pint glass (Release #2, 9.0 ABV).

A vigorous pour produced a scent that let me know this was a Belgian style beer. Simply smells like a Belgian.

Pours a hazy golden with quickly dissipating head and no lacing.

Taste is Belgian, through and through. I get bubblegum and banana flavors. A light sweet sensation as well as salty.

Palate: I am getting a medium body and sticky texture and a long finish. The carbonation is also right to style.

I really enjoyed this beer.

Poured into a chalice a cloudy pale yellow color, some carbonation, tiny fizzy white head, minimal sticky lacing left behind. The nose is malty, with some yeast notes, banannas, corinander, pears, slight pepper note. The taste is malty, yeasty, with some banannas/corinander/pears, and pepper. Medium body. Got this from Inflatablechair... Sam works for a beer distributor ... His boss is considering getting Epic's line in and wanted feedback... so.... here we go.

22 oz bottle says "Elevated Series Release #1"

Foamy eggshell white head... rocky and persistent .. descent lacing.. the brew is a hazy pale golden.

Nose is pretty impressive.... fruity esters and nice background phenols... pear... some bubblegum... a bit perfumy... some floral notes that I would guess are hops.

Esters and phenols reveal themselves more as clove and hints of banana ... still a fruity pear essence is there... maybe some honeydew... body seems a tad thick for the style.. but the carbonation is about perfect.

I love a good BSPA.. but the phenolic nature would get too me after a whole bomber.

Very well made... surprisingly so.. I'm happy with it for sure... Thanks Sammy!!
