Batch #4 8.2% ABV

A= Pours a hazy yellow color verging onto a white color. The head is a tall three fingers high with some soapy sudsy looking bubbles and falls at your average pace.

S= The smell is unique. There is for sure some sour apple candy smell to it and a lot of unique spices. I feel like I smell lavender. Clove and a bit of bannana. Bubblegum for sure. Pretty unique.

T= The taste is about where the nose left it. There is a lot a the spice coming through and the apple is very subtle. It hits your mouth like you would expect a spiced beer to, lots of spice and somewhat soft. As it crosses across your tongue it remains soft and spicy but the finish leaves a wave of sour with the apple flavor only coming through for a moment. Cloves and bubblegum are the dominate spices. The finish is a bit odd. Somewhat medicinal and astringent.

D= Weird. The finish is dry and suprisingly so as sweet and flavorful as it starts.

O= This is a really strang beer. I don't know how much more of this one I'll be buying. Not really my cup of tea. This will not however take me away from the brewery. I would pass this one up.

Release #4 - 22oz into a pint

A - Pours a light golden color, very clear. Super carbonation, huge white head formation but it breaks down quickly.

S - A belgian yeast white pepper base, some pilsner malts, and a little bit of funk. Not much for apple.

T - Starts off potent with lots of white pepper and pilsner malts. Mid-stream shows a good note of apple musk. Alcohol is well hidden, a little bit funky. Finishes with a lightly sour apple note.

M - Light body but super strong carbonation. Comes out in the wash. Finishes with a little bit of a sticky sweetness.

O/D - An interesting and very drinkable beer. ABV is manageable. A little bit filling, but normal for saisons. Worth a try.

release #4 of their exponential series

appearance - bubbly little fellow. big sea foam head off controlled pour, very golden straw color. head doesnt die too quickly. bubbles keep coming up. pretty

smell - spices, pepper, crisp yeast, pears, coriander, a pinch of cinnamon

taste - tis more apple than pear here, spices arent very present. pretty tart, but more like a champagne than a sour.

mouthfeel - its very light bodied, slides down my throat before i get a chance to taste it. the carbonation is nice.

overall - not sure but for some reason everything seems nice about this beer, but im just not enjoying it as much as its qualities show. seems a bit off somewhere.

A - pours an apple pie color with a ring of soapy bubbles around the glass.
S - the aroma is a nice cooked apple smell along with some cinnamon. very nice aroma.
T - the taste is a little bit of a let down but not completely. The flavor is mainly the apple but you also pick up the cinnamon along with the saison funkiness. There is some pepper in there and I don't necessarily think it fits with the flavor of the beer.
M/D - The peppery spice does detract from this a bit and makes the drinkability go down a bit. Its medium bodied with crisp carbonation. Enjoyable yet could be tiresome.

Never seen this or anything from Epic before in CO. Grabbed it at Wilbur's in Ft. Collins.
Pours a cloudy straw color. Tons of suspended yeast. Heavy carbonation fades into a sheen layer pretty fast. Looks a bit like carbonated pineapple juice.
Smells more or less like a typical Saison. Spicy (slightly funky & tangy) yeast, hearty grains, and citrus zest. The only unusual note is ginger, which comes out more as it warms.
The taste is pretty unusual no matter what you're expecting. A bit of sour apple up front blends into a wave of peppery spice. Malts add a bit of sweetness followed by a hint of dusty hops. The finish has an unmistakable ginger character. The peppery spice is familiar, but everything else is unique...in a good way. If I was blind tasting it I don't even know if I'd have guessed it was a sour apple based brew.
Thick and potent, this isn't anything you'll be drinking a ton of or drinking quickly, but that's just the nature of it. Nothing really wrong with that.
A unique take on a pretty open style, I'm enjoying it and am curious about some other beers from Epic.
More good beer from Utah? Who knew?

A - Very light in color, very clear. Nice pure white head. Mild legs of lace.

S - Oddly I got hints of a smoked malt aroma, then herbal spice. The sour apple was being rather elusive on the nose unfortunately.

T - Now I am starting to get the sour apple. Tart, almost bretty, and then still more spice comes through. At times it can be a bit twiggy and sprucey.

M/O - Dry. Overall not bad, though I wasn't really digging any of the Epic saisons we tried that day.
