Pours light straw with a slightly green hew. Very thin white head and little lacing.

Very spicy aroma. Clove and nutmeg. No apple or sourness in the nose.

I'd like to write a lot of descriptors for the flavor, but really the flavor is bland. Belgian yeast dominates with clove and other spices. Very little body to speak of, no sourness and hardly any detectable apple at all. As the beer warms, the spices come out more and are too overpowering for the base.

Good carbonation levels. As mentioned, body is very light.

Thought I may enjoy this one, but definitely did not. The blandest beer I've had in a while.

A- Very light-colored, almost like the skin of a Golden Delicious apple. See, that's the problem with naming a beer literally; now I know what's in it and I've got apples on the brain. Anyway, it also pours with a huge fizzy white head that goes down extremely quickly.

S- Cotton candy and juicy fruit gum right away, quite appealing. After it warms a little the smell changes completely, going very tart and funky. Odd.

T- Some bubblegum and banana sweetness upfront is quickly bulldozed by a huge dose of sourness. It's kind of strange; I want to say it's like apple skin, but again, I've got apples on the brain so I'm not sure that's really what it is. I'll go ahead and say apple skin. It sticks around into the aftertaste, gaining a bit of a metallic taste and becoming more and more unpleasant. It is joined by a touch of bitterness on the finish.

M- Pretty good. It's medium-bodied and quite fizzy which works well for this sort of beer.

Overall the beer is marred by the unpleasant taste. It's not balanced and the weird sourness just overpowers everything else. The beer has its merits and is not undrinkable, but I won't be revisiting it. Just an odd concept that didn't quite work out.

woah... even though it says "sour apple saison", i was not expecting what i got here. pours golden with a white head that doesn't hold well, and doesn't leave much lace. nose is jolly rancher all the way. sweet, slightly sour green apple and spice, but mostly sweet jolly rancher. taste is more of the same with the flavors being a tad bit more refined, but just not working for me. dryness and acid cut through the sweetness a little bit, but not enough to create harmony. just too much residual sugar here, not enough funk and not enough zip or crispiness to turn my gears. i don't "get" saison and i don't find the choice of apple that was used to be appropriate either. i hate to bash a beer, and maybe i just didn't get it, but i thought this one was just a mess. a little cloying in the mouthfeel and overall, a big let-down for me from a beer/brewer that sounds intriguing on paper. reminds me of homebrew made with whatever they could get their hands on for cheapest. first drain pour from me in a long time. sorry epic... thumbs down.

Pours a foggy yellow. Has a funky apple smell. Ah tastes like what it is said to be. Like the brewery but not overly impressed.

Appearance - 2.5/5
Pours an extremely clear orange-yellow-gold. No head. Can see the carbonation rising up at a moderate rate. The beers clearness makes it looks almost like a cider to me, which I would say earns the beer negative points.

Smell - 2.5/5
Smells of beer and nutmeg. Smells like a pumpkin beer to me. Not what I want with this beer. Besides the nutmeg, there are subtle bready-spicy saison smells as well.

Taste - 2.5/5
Tastes of alcohol, nutmeg (not nearly as strong as the smell though...thank goodness). I am trying real hard to taste the 'sour apple', but the best I can taste is a vague fruity tartness. Overall, this beer is nothing special, doesn't taste like it advertises, and the taste overall is not very good.

Mouthfeel - 3.5/5
Very smooth. Carbonation is fairly light. Light to medium in body. In between creamy and crisp. While the mouthfeel is nothing spectacular, considering all the low ratings for the rest of the beer, the mouthfeel is the best part.

Overall - 2.75/5
I was really expecting a lot more from this beer. I couldn't taste the sour apple at all, and there was the overpowering and seemingly out-of-place nutmeg flavor. There were really no good aspects to this beer. Not something I would ever get again, or ever recommend. This is my first that I can remember from Epic Brewing, and I will probably not be trying anything from them for a long time.

Bottom line: this is an ok Saison. My only problem is that the description is nowhere close to how the beer actually tastes.

There's absolutely zero sour and there's not much of any apple flavor, either.

Tastes like a straight-up farmhouse Saison to me.

Not saying to pass on this one, but don't expect any acidity or tart flavor.

This beer is a new beer to the Cincinnati market was in the mood for something a bit funky and this sounds like it fits the bill. The beer was chilled and served in a tulip.

A- The body of the beer is a hazy straw yellow coloration. The beers head is white and about a finger high. The head is rapidly desolving. A few whisp of lace mark the beers passage.

S- High marks on the aroma. The aroma of the beer definitely kicks up some sweet / sour / tart apple cinnamon, ginger and cloves a bit of funky earthyness brings in the rear.

T- Sadly the flavor cannot live up to the aroma. Tart and semi sweet apple peaks out from under an assertive twist of lemon saturated bandaides and crushed asprin. No amount of temperature tinkering improved this.

M- The beer has a light effervescent body. Frankly the body keeps this from being a drain pour.

O- This beer shows some promise. I think the yeast needs to be brought to heel a bit and Epic will have a winner. Not a drain pour but having to work a little to finish the bomber.

Pours a slightly hazy pale golden yellow color with visible carbonation bubbling up and a two finger frothy white head that slowly settles into a lasting ring. Spotty lacing left behind.

Earthy, slightly funky aroma with a nice barnyard character that is countered by the sweet apple presence. The sour apple character is kind of artificial/syrupy smelling, reminding me of candy/kids juice box. There's also a slight musty scent with some sweet alcohol and bread/yeast in the nose.

Medium bodied with a lot of tight carbonation up front tickling the tongue. Slightly earthy and very sweet up front with a strong sour apple flavor. Again, this flavor is very syrupy and artificial tasting yet the tartness compliments the funky saison yeast. There's a crisp dryness that lingers into the finish with hints of bread, zesty spice and grass.

Overall, this beer is an interesting idea but the result is a beer that is too sweet and artificial for my liking. A decent amount of tartness and subtle funk but the cloying sour apple flavor is a bit much.

Pours a pale gold with a good and long lasting head of foam.

I smell the usual spiciness for the style with some green apple tartness.

Spices of coriander and cloves, hints of barnyard, light tartness of green apples. Not my cup of tea as the tart doesn't compliment the traditional flavours of the Saison.
