Expected color, nice creamy head, a little porous on the fade. Not my particular style on the aroma - charred oak, fusel, diner coffee grounds, tobacco leaf - very husky and dark, needed some smoother elements. Flavor is mostly the same - there is a real lack of barrel element beyond some heat & vague oak, and the cocoa bits are lost in the wilderness. Tastes like an average coffee stout at best, which for the price tag, hey, fine, but there is a plethora of better beers on the market riffing on these exact same ingredients.

This is a damn fine beer. Thick and not overly sweet. Coffee and barrel blend in perfectly. For me it’s above bcbs, Ba 1050, parabola, etc. and deserves points for not being too difficult to acquire.

L: nice oily black with decent head.

S: solid smell. Barrel is there. Some dark fruit. Subtle chocolate.

T: exceptional. Great combination of flavors. Whiskey, chocolate, coffee slightly. Great mash up.

F: silky silk. Incredibly smooth. No complaints about this one.

O: awesome beer.

I splint a bomber of this with my wife as a nightcap.

Poured into a glass, the beer is black with a skim of sticky brown foam.

The beer has an appetizing nose of dark fruit, bourbon, heavily roasted malts and some chocolate notes.

This beer had at least a year in the cellar and it was worth the wait. The roasted malts are front and center with nice supporting bourbon and chocolate notes. I also get a bit of vanilla, dark roast coffee and raisins. There are some wood like notes and bakers chocolate late but they are all subordinate the malts. Let this one warm-up as it really opens up. No harshness or heat at all.

The mouth is thick and substantial. Just the way I like it in this type of beer.

Well done!

Dark black pour with tan head and lots of lacing. Carmel, chocolate/cocoa and coffee on the nose. Has a great texture or viscosity to it, medium bodied might describe it best. Taste is strong and full of roasty malts and bittersweet chocolate. Really liked this beer a lot, a great stout!

This beer is probably one of the best illustrations as to why appropriate temperature matters when it comes to tasting beer.

Straight out of the fridge and the bottle, there's hints of dark chocolate, roasted malts, and a typhoon of toasted wood and french oak-invoking bourbon characters. The concoction also carries a considerable amount of heat as it travels down your throat, leaving behind a fiery trail as it traverses past your esophagus and into your GI tract. The body also feels very insubstantial; it's almost porter-like in its medium-body construct, although there's a nice little touch of creaminess that accompanies the want of fullness. This is definitely not the BBB that I remember shrieking in joy for after discovering it in an odd corner of the giant fridge at Tanakaya in Tokyo.

Fifteen minutes pass as I fumble through my camera and my phone to get the pictures 'gram ready and I settle down to write a disappointing review, but then I notice that something's changed. There's a pleasantly rich backdrop of coffee on the nose that was previously absent in the mix, joined by the aforementioned dark chocolate, roasty malts, and a somewhat subdued charred wood, type of bourbon character. I know I'm technically supposed to paint a mostly positive picture if I'm trying to prove a point with these things, but some acetaldehyde that was previously masked by the overpowering bourbon is now detectable in trace amounts as well, but otherwise, so far so good.

The mouth and the mouthfeel is where the most drastic departure from its more frigid counterpart can be observed. A decadent mix of Cadbury's milk chocolate, Starbucks frappucino without whipped cream or any flavor syrups, caramel, and a hint of dark fruits is detectable on the tongue. The bourbon takes more of a subsidiary role as time passes by, with the oak-y characters providing a gentle drying finishing touch to the bold flavors preceding it.

More commercially-brewed "coffee of the day"-esque drip pot coffee notes surface after the oak.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Maybe it's because of the 12% ABV, but somehow the body feels less-porter like and more reminiscent of a stout as I keep drinking; there's even an element of chewiness to it which complements the creamy consistency very well. The heat has pleasantly been suppressed/forced into a retreat for the most part, but it hangs on ever so subtly to remind you that you probably shouldn't drink another beer after this one: fuck you, beer, don't tell me how to live my life. Gentle, sizzling carbonation with a medium-ish body is the final verdict on this one.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Not quite sure when batch #86 was bottled, but I'm betting it'll get better with some TLC in the cellar. Considering what I used to pay for way worse non-BA stouts at #WooriSuper, 10.99 for this seems like a freaking steal.

Had two 10 ounce draws ($10 per draw) at Tony Saccos Pizzaria on 12/14/17. They were outstanding! Easily one of the best beers I've ever had. To me it ranks up there with KBS, BCBS, & Black Note Stout.
