Release 45

How exactly is this going to improve with aging? Aroma, mouth feel, balance are all exquisite. Not a hot beer at all, despite the ABV. Drink that BBB now!

Batch #48

Chocolate and coffee flavors shine here, with the whiskey playing second fiddle. Great balance. The wood from the barrel aging makes for a very dry finish. Really tasty beer.

100th beer review.
Batch #40, 11.5% abv

Bomber into a snifter. Pours pitch black with about 1 finger of dense, bubbly mocha-colored foam. Incredibly sweet aroma of coffee, chocolate, roasted malt, and caramel. There's also a profound oak charring on the nose that's unlike any other Imperial Stout I've had. I also detect some bourbon notes within the sweet alcohol aroma. Medium-heavy weight, but among the less-dense Imperial Stouts I've had before. Despite not being an overly heavy beer, there's a smooth creaminess that fills the mouth.

Sweet, roasted coffee and malt up front with notes of chocolate. A slight bitterness sets in middleways that I attributed to the chocolate. On the back end, I get a more profound, yet still subtle bitterness along with a slight bourbon flavor. Finishes as smooth as butter. The aftertaste sees a lingering bitterness coupled with a stronger bourbon presence, while still retaining much of the coffee sweetness.

Overall, this beer is delicious. Absoloutely one of the best Imperial Stouts I've ever had. It's more coffee-forward, which isn't something I was expecting, but the balance between sweetness and bitterness, and flavor and alcohol is perfect. You taste everything this beer has to offer without tasting too much of anything. Simply awesome.

Different batch: #56, 11.9% ABV
Same dark brown pour and back appearance in the glass. I feel as though this batch is different, as I'm picking up little bourbon and oak presence. Instead, I get a medley of expresso, roasted malt, sugared candy, and straight whiskey. This batch has a much more raw aroma to it than #40.
Taste wise, it follows along with the aroma. Very heavy whiskey presence accompanied by roasted malt, suagry expresso/coffee, and sweet, roasty malt.
In terms of the feel, this batch is a little more abrasive than my previous review. Not that it's hard to drink - it isn't - but just that buttery smootheness is gone. This batch is rougher around the edges in terms of balance and texture, but still very good.

numbers adjusted accordingly, but overall I much prefer the BBA vs the WBA version.

Batch 34; 12.7% ABV. Delicious coffee stout. I wish there was more coffee flavor that came through though.
