Notes / Commercial Description:
Formerly Fermentation Without Representation Imperial Pumpkin Porter

Our first ever collaborative beer has all the familiar flavors of the season, but done with Epic style. To a base of strong, roasty, and chocolaty porter, we add 200 pounds of real pumpkin per batch, five spices and whole Madagascar vanilla beans. As you pour this deeply ruby brown beer, you’re greeted by the aroma of fresh cut squash, followed by rich chocolate. The flavor starts sweet with marshmallow, vanilla, and some pumpkin pie, then yields to a coffee roast and darkchocolate dryness. This beer is a great introduction for curious drinkers and a special holiday treat for fans of the style.

Nice. Nice. Very nice. I really enjoy pumpkin porters. Alaskan made a great one, I think they stopped, there are some others kicking around, even one from Red Hook (I hope they make it again).

This beer is wonderful. Poured from bomber, series #25 brewed in Denver, 8.50%, into Alaskan Brewing smoked porter snifter glass.

A = dark nutty brown color with tinge of orange a little light for a porter but pretty. Tan-ish head that drops quick leaving a rim of foam. Some lacing.

S = almost a faint chocolate liquor smell, some dank pumpkin, spice.

T = different than the smell. dark chocolate, warming liquor, pumpkin, enough malt and hops almost some faint dark red fruit (cherry?) in the way way back, not sure where that comes from (I see someone else gets that too). Very balanced and drinkable.

M = soft, almost tender if a liquid can be tender, smooth, sweet.

O = for the $6.98 I paid I believe I'l buy a few and enjoy them through the season, want to enjoy next to the fire on a 40 degree day with rain and see how well it warms.

Very nice beer, perhaps best I've had from Epic (Big Baptist, red IPA).

Pours a nice dark reddish brown with light showing through all the way. Has a nice thick tan head that leaves a decent amount of lacing on the glass as it dissipates. The smell seems mostly coffee like with roasted dark malts. The pumpkin spices are present but never make a noticeable appearance. They merely waft out intermittently in random bursts. The taste is dark malty sweetness with some raw pumpkin flavor and a bit of pie spice flavors at the end.

22oz bottle poured into a tulip. This imperial pumpkin porter pours a dark black color with light tan colored head. The aroma is roasted malts and faint pumpkin and spices. The taste like the aroma is roasted malts and spices. I enjoy that this has a nice balance of pumpkin spices and the sweetness is kept in check and not too overpowering. Overall, a solid pumpkin brew for the season.

Enjoyed fro the 22oz bottle in a snifter. This brew pour a deep brownish black with a decent off white head of foam that dissipates to a moderate ring and thick lacing. Nose of the usual suspects....nutmeg, cinnamon, mild pumpkin, with a moderate dose of molasses. Flavors follow the nose with a medium brown molasses and pumpkin note, followed by cinnamon and nutmeg on the rear. Decent carbonation and smooth mouth feel finishes lightly dry and tart. Decent. Not my favorite from one of my favorite breweries.

Cheers

Dark brown in color with very little light seeping through. There's a fingernail of khaki colored head. Brussels lacing. Aroma of cinnamon and nutmeg are most prevalent. There's a faint whiff of pumpkin pie spice mixed in. The flavor is a blend of nutmeg, cinnamon, dark malt, plum, fig, and pumpkin. The mouth is a bit sticky and dry.

My favorite seasonal ever. Perfect mix of spice and real beer flavor. Very roasty up front giving way to warm spice. The 2012 and 2014 releases were top notch. 2013 seemed to miss a lot of the spice finish, but it cellared really well, and a year later was just delicious. (Don't really know what all went on there - I'll let someone with some science hazard a guess at that ).
