Slight sage taste. IPA like but different in a way I can't explain. Really good.

Poured from a 22oz bottle into a Dogfish Head Snifter. Thanks to mrmarmot and happicow for muling this one back.

A: Pours a crystal clear pale golden color. Mildly aggressive pour leads to a big fizzy 3 finger head that disappears pretty quickly but leaves a good quarter-finger ring around the top and very nice lacing sticks to the side of the glass.

S: Tons of herbs, hops, sage, rose hips, grass, lemon zest, sweet malts and a touch of funk. Extraordinarily complex.

T: Sage rings first and foremost with tons of other herbs, spices and grassy notes. The sweet malts round out the flavor at the end but the bitterness hits and really makes this a really fantastic.

M: Crisp finish, perfectly carbonated.

O: A great beer. Highly complex and highly drinkable. Excellent.

absolutely sensational herbal brew here from epic, a seeming combination of saison yeast and belgian ale yeast, its got a nice hazy golden color and some body to it, as well as an inch or so of slowly rising and slowly falling white head. the nose is great, fresh white sage in here, strong but not like an over herbed sage butter, its uncooked, raw, fresh, wild. its more the wild sage than the culinary sage from the grocery store, in so far as the palate can distinguish the two. some color and sweetness to the wheat malt here, but the yeast cleans it up beautifully, and the sage is felt on the middle of the tongue and it expands from there though the finish. i am really glad epic made this again, and look forward to some cool culinary applications for this brew. well carbonated and not as light as some saisons. this really works. i like it head and shoulders above cellar door from stillwater, which is the only other sage saison ive had. this is much cleaner and brighter and the sage comes through much nicer. a real success here.

Release #18, SLC #1762.

Light golden hue to the body with a very thick, rocky, billowing white head (4.0). Big spicy, sage nose; peppery; hay; yeasty (4.25). Pepper and sage flavors; phenolic; tart and bitter (4.25). Medium bodied; very dry finish (4.0).

A most interesting and heady beer. The aroma is perfumy and pungent right away and it and the flavor just keeps on going. I don't know what spices were actually used (other than sage), but the whole enchilada exudes depth and complexity throughout the aroma and taste. For something different, this beer is it. It's bold yet approachable and, if it's to your tastes, quite drinkable.

Batch # 16. Poured into snifter glass.

Appearance: beer presented a hay like color with a slightly opaque appearance. A delicate white head built up quickly with gentle pouring and broke down quickly after setting the glass down.

Smell: notes of Belgian yeast and some herbs, and a little bit of sugar. Can't quite describe the herbs but it has a nice fruity essence. May almost seem cloying but it's not.

Taste: while I find most saisons quite tamed (in a good way), this one is really in your face. Picked up Belgian yeast, sweet bread, and fruity tones. There's also an herbal bitterness at the finish.

Mouthfeel: clean, smooth, carbonation perfect, medium bodied. No notes of alcohol.

Overall: a great buy for the price it sold for (I think a bomber was 6-7 dollars). It's about the only saison I've tried that stood out from other saisons. I don't want to say it was an oddball one (with its sage added) but it certainly was different.

Release #3, brewed 1/30/12 bottled 3/30/12
Poured into wine glass from bomber.

A - Hazy gold/orange color with a half inch head that dissipates quickly to a thin fine head
S- Yeasty earth with a bit of rosemary. Slightly floral no sign of the sage to me.
T - Slightly sweet and funky with the rosemary hitting first and then the soapy sage hitting the back.
M - Medium body with good constant carbonation. Nice and dry.

Overall a beer that I would drink again, curious to try other batches that are more fresh.

Release #3; Posting to help it get a score.

Pours a clear orange amber with a lovely thick, firm and long lasting pure white head. Really nice looking.

Nose is all fruity "saged" esters. Sage is really present but well integrated into the other fruit character of the nose. Really pleasant fresh sage, oranges, citrus and spice.

Mouthfeel is medium thin and crisp with nice medium carbonation.

Flavor profile drives this one. Full and rich assertive flavors of oranges and spice in the front palate that leads into a more complex semi-sweet sage/spice/pepper character. Well integrated and nice flavors without any one element just jumping out. I'm guessing that this would be really nice with Indian, Chinese and Thai food. Very interesting and inviting profiles.

Finish is a bit green herbed to me with a nice green pepper/celery bitter tone that is long lasting. Nice effort on this one.
