One of my favorite beers from Barrier. I love IPAs but sometimes I look forward to a nice solid pale ale. Been waiting for Bittersweet to come back to the brewery for sometime and this batch is even better than I remember. Growler poured into Goose Island 16.5 tulip.

A: Hazy orange. Almost looks like a deep orange juice with a ruby hint. Good carbonation fades to a very nice lacing.

S: Grapefruit, pine, citrus, pineapple, papaya and a plethora of other tropical fruits coming from the galaxy hops.

T: Full of tropical, juicy fruits. Grapefruit, pineapple, mango and citrus dominate. Slight pine notes in the middle. Citrus definitely lingers well after the sip. Slight bready and caramel malt backbone. Perfectly balanced.

M: Medium bodied. Slight bitterness. Drinks like pineapple juice. Super juicy like biting into a fresh pineapple.

O: One of my favorite pale ales out there today. I love this beer and always make a point to grab a growler or five (as well as many pints at the taproom) everytime they brew it. Even after my last sip 5 minutes ago, as I write this, my mouth is full of citrusy, juicy flavors and mouthfeel. Another hit by Barrier.

On draft at The Black Sheep, Mineola, NY.

Poured a light bronze hue with a two finger frothy white head. There was good retention and lacing.

The smell featured a medicinal grassy hop and flat malt.

The taste consisted of a sticky artificial sweetness with a grassy, almost vegetably hop. The malt was grainy and severe in its dryness.

The mouthfeel was light and clean with an unpleasant astringency.

Overall an in impressive offering from Barrier. Disappointing.

First had: on tap at Barrier

I'm pretty sure the bartender mixed this up with Money IPA, so I'm switching my notes around. Hazy coppery hue, with a small white head that fizzled down to a ringlet; minimal lacing. Aroma was grassy, a touch of spice, but overpowered with a weird funk, like body odor. Could've just been an improperly washed glass, though I did get the same smell in the IPA, and nothing else I sampled there, so...? Decent dry bitterness in the taste, grainy malts, dry grass and celery, notes of that dishwatery funk from the aroma, but not nearly as offensive. Light-medium body, easily drinkable, but just a bit off overall. Eliminate that b.o. problem, and you might have a good beer here.

Maybe it was me? *sniff sniff* Nah.

The beer has big orange peel flavor, pine, then a medium plus malt sweetness. A lighter mouthfeel with a relatively clean finish.

A balanced and simple brew.

Golden amber, slick white foam. Lite vegetation, green citrus. Balanced malt and hops, a great brew.
