Pretty good selection for the area. Found DirtWolf fresh (which I haven't had since back East). Prices were reasonable and if not better than BevMo.

Being from Santa Maria, we are a little starved for a broad selection. We do OK in terms of available specialty beers from Deschutes, Firestone (obviously) and a few other breweries... So the buying power of Whole Foods, makes Whole Foods Santa Barbara a bit of "1 hour drive" mecca of sorts.

In terms of the selection. It varies; lots of Local stuff but also stuff that you don't see outside of LA county. There are usually a few bottles of Bruery Beers, Bootleggers, Great Divide, and quite a few Belgian beers as well. Also present is Jolly Pumpkin and a good selection of Avery. If you're coming from LA/SD, you're not going to be blown away, but when you're used to the drought that is Northern Santa Barbara County, you'll appreciate the selection.

Trevor the current beer buyer is great with customer service. He responds to questions, knows his product and has made it a point to frequently post pictures of new items coming into the store via Facebook.

Highly recommended

I don't want to oversell this place, because it's not a GREAT beer place, but it is solid for a grocery store. Whole Foods in general is a little more "upmarket" than your average grocers and they are a tad on the pricey side for most of their goods, but I found the beer to be reasonable. There's definitely more of a microbrew selection here over most places. I was impressed mostly by two things: their selection of uncommon ales and the service I received from the man stocking the shelves. They had some Stone and Bear Republic items I'd not seen yet and normally wouldn't see elsewhere, other than a craft beer oriented liquor store. And also, when I was looking over these uncommon ales, I was given suggestions and shown some new products that weren't on the shelf yet by a helpful but not pushy employee. That's definitely appreciated! So overall I had a good experience at this location.
