Split the bomber, I got the second half of the bottle which pours hazy gold color with a 2 finger foamy off white head that faded slowly and left good foamy lacing coating the sides. The head stuck around for quite a while.

Smells of lemon zest, coriander, orange peel, toasted grains, honey, light caramel, wheat, clove, pepper, dry floral hops, white wine and a lot of earthy notes. The hops, wheat and peppery spices make for a nice complex nose.

Tastes of toasted grains, sweet malt, dry chalky yeast, lemon, orange peel, coriander, tangerine, clove, grapefruit, bubblegum, white pepper, Belgian sugar, citrus hops, rye or other mild spices, champagne,
and earthy notes which make this very typical for a saison. It's crisp, light and refreshing to drink, hiding the ABV and going down easy. Nice for the style, this is a session beer for me.

"Romance and Clown Shoes? You betcha! They go together like tweed jackets and sweater vests, like coins in a foundain, like anger management and therapy. We used a classic Belgian yeast strain in this Saison, and dry hopped it with Cascade, Amarillo and Galaxy hops for a refreshing twist on a traditional style." Brewed in the style of a Belgian Saison ale. Available in 22 oz. bottles and on limited draft.

Poured from a 22 oz. bottle to a tulip glass.

(Appearance) Pours a crisp, fizzy head of a milky white color over a moderately hazy straw yellow body with ample, lively carbonation. Retention is above average and lacing is moderate and fluffy. 3.75

(Smell) Biscuity pale and cracker pilsner malt with a fruity, lightly spicy and effervescent yeast profile, light funk, barnyard and acidity forward and a moderately bitter yeast profile of mellow citrus, grapefruit and grass. Nicely balanced sweet to effervescent coriander bitterness with a moderate potency. 3.75

(Taste) Dank, musty cracker malt with a peppery yeast backbone, mild fruitiness, light funk and barnyard on the tongue, moderate dryness. Mild juicy hop citrus notes of tangerine and grapefruit, lemon. 3.75

(Mouthfeel) Texture is silky, peppery, slick, moderately dry. Carbonation is moderate, generating a light frothiness and a briskly crisp finish. Body is medium+ for the style, medium overall. Balance is nearly even sweet to effervescent peppery bitter and tangy. Alcohol presence is very low and there are no off characters. 3.75

(Overall) An interesting Americanized spin on the saison with a base of musty and peppery malt character, a touch of funk and acidity from the yeast and a juicy, citrus fruit heavy backbone. Nicely balanced, fairly accessible, and certainly far from traditional. I think there's something in this Saison for everybody, and it's one of the more pleasant Belgian ales of the American brewed variety for its subtlety, yet widespread diversity of flavor. 3.75

Pours a nice golden straw with a large, bubbly white head that retains for quite a while. A definite Belgian fruity smell to it. Definite Belgian funky, fruity taste with a very dry, boozy finish. A definite hop presence makes it a busy beer. A light medium body with a light mouthfeel.

Bomber into a tulip. Pours a light straw color and settles into an amazingly clear golden in the glass. A semi-aggressive pour resulted in a beautiful 3 finger head of fluffy, sticky, snow-white foam. The aroma isn't strong, but does have nice floral notes, spice, hops, and hints of sweet fruit. Light weight, and a very carbonated, crisp mouthfeel. Sweet spice, pepper, pine, and mango/grapefruit on the taste. A modest hop bitterness creeps in middleways, and turns into a creamy, carbonated treat on the back end. Finishes crisp and clean. There's a dry sweetness on the aftertaste.

Overall, an excellent, innovative beer. It's almost a saison/pale ale hybrid. Nothing about this beer is overpowering, which was nice. It's well-balanced and because it's quite muted, you're able to savor and enjoy the flavor of each style.

A: poured into a tulip to a hazy light yellow topped by a dense two finger white head that retains well and leaves excellent lacing
S: smells of spicy yeast, fruity esters, floral and citrusy hops as well
T: taste is fruity esters, some earthiness, dry cracker like malt, spicy yeast, citrus, tropical fruit and some floral hop flavors. swallow is more citrus and earthiness with some lingering spicy yeast.
M: lighter side of medium on the palate with soft but adequate carbonation. this beer has a pretty dry finish but it's very good.
O: Great flavors and complexity from this beer. This is another great offering from the folks at Clown Shoes. If Saisons with a little bit of hoppiness are your thing this one is great. Wish I would have cracked it open sooner because I think the hops have faded a bit. the underlying saison is quite good though.

Bottled on 1/15/15.

Pours a murky golden-orange with a foamy off-white head that settles to an island of foam on top of the beer. Small patches of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of grain, dried citrus peel, floral, earth, spice, and yeast aromas. Taste is much the same with floral, citrus zest, spice, yeast, and earthy hop flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of hop bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a good beer that has a nice mix of floral, citrus, and spice qualities that is slightly better in the taste to me.

Serving type: bottle.

Pours a huge frothy 3 finger head that fades slowly with soapy lacing, crystal clear tan golden color. Nice, but for a saison?!

Nose starts with hops, grassy flask hops, little spicy note, a mild dank resin and light fruit notes. Mild grainy malt, grassy malts with faint lemongrass and toasty notes.

Taste brings some saison notes, mild grassy grainy malts, light doughy, with mild saison spices that increase as it goes, little coriander like note, with plenty of lemon peel and lemongrass, faint phenols. Then hops, grassy and floral to start, then spicy and chewy bitter with mild pine resin, and touch of fruity flavors from esters I think. Finish is drier but sticky, mild phenols, quite bitter ava piney spicy hops lingering, little hop oil.

Mouth is med bod, mild softness, decent carb.

Overall eh, hardly a good saison style, very little saison, crystal clear, too Hoppy, etc... But still a decent beer to enjoy.

The strong aroma of the cascade hops is a bit off putting for a saison, but as it fades there is a sweetness underneath. There is little fruitiness in the aroma, though the flavour reveals a lemon citrus that is expected. the hops are more muted here. The color and head are spot on, slightly hazy and with a long lasting foam. A very drinkable beer, but slightly odd for a saison.

22oz bottle from Sprayberry Bottle Shop (Marietta, GA). 7.99. Bottled 1/15/15. Served in a Shoes snifter.

Pours a clear, brilliant, pale yellow with a finger and a half white head. The foam settles to a small but persistent cap and leaves a good bit of chunky lace on the way down.

Aromas are familiar and saison-y. Grassy, mild funk, light citrus, spice and some vague sweet fruit.

Flavor is pretty much as expected for the style with the welcome addition of some hoppy tropical fruit notes. Hay, grass, yeasty funk, lemon rind, peach, marmalade, fruit skins and a little earth. It goes down smooth with no dicernable alcohol.

Crisp medium body with some lively carbonation. Dry finish with a blend of hay, yeast and light lemon peel.

Date Night is a well done, if not groundbreaking, saison. The array of hops used in dry hopping add a nice subtle fruitiness that, in my opinion, helps elevate this above the average saison.

A: Hazy gold/straw or light orange. Snow white head that fades rather quickly with nice lacing.

S: Comes off green smelling with pepper, and strong balsamic presence. Citrus, slightly woodsy. It warms the fruity esters dominate in the nose. Bubblegum and nothing else.

M: Light and prickly. Some sticky dough quality mid. A tad softer and fuller when warmer. Mod-high carb.

T: High hop presence means this beer tastes big. Passionfruit, lime and blood orange. Countered with green pepper and balsamic aftertaste. A good beer, just not feeling the synergy today is all. This beer just seems to go thru a lot of different morphs, which one could interpret as being layered while another could say disjointed.

Pours brilliant gold with a light copper tint under a 2” fairly quickly dissipating off-white cap. The nose is over ripe fruit, biscuit, citrus and orange. The palate starts creamy with biscuit, fruit, orange, lemon and pineapple finishing with a nice bitter hop punch. The body is medium with slightly above average carbonation.

22 ounce bottle, bottled on 01/05/15. Served in a Prairie Teku, the beer pours a hazy golden color with about an inch white head. Head retention and lacing are both good. The brew smells like floral and citrusy (tropical fruit, grapefruit, citrus peel) hops, bready malt and some yeastiness. The taste is similar to the aroma, it tastes like citrusy (tropical fruit, citrus peel) and floral hops, earthy yeast, bready malt, peppery spice and some grassiness. Mouthfeel/body is medium, it's a bit sticky and has moderate carbonation. I think this is a good hoppy, earthy saison. I liked it more and more the longer I drank it. Definitely worth trying!

A - Hazy straw/gold body with a thick white head. Leaves moderate lacing.
S - Typical saison pepper dominates, but there is some floral and citrus from the hops.
T - Excellent blend of the peppery, yeast, spiciness to go along with the citrus from the hops. Bitterness reels it all in and cuts it off.
M - Medium/thick body, medium carb. Dries the palate out.
O - AN excellent saison. I highly recommend trying it out.

Clown Shoes have been knocking out of the park for the past couple years. Love their barrel aged beers. They did a really good job with their first (Maybe?) Saison. Floral, hoppy, w/ some lemon and that great Belgian yeast coming through nicely. One of the styles I love, done correctly.

A: Pours a golden color with 2+ fingers of head that fades down to a nice cap that leaves chunks of lacing down the glass

S: Belgian yeast up front, imparting some nice floral, fruity, and spicy notes. Lots going on with the spices and fruitiness, with overlapping layers of complexity

T: Follows the nose. Starts off with the fruitiness and spicy notes, followed by a good amount of citrus and floral hoppy notes. Unwraps slowly and really lets you see how it opens up. Finishes with a light, pleasant bitterness and more of the yeasty notes

M: Medium bodied with moderate carbonation

O: A nice saison with plenty of yeast aspects that go along great with the dry hopping. Nicely balanced and complex, which makes for great drinkability. Certainly worth checking out
