Pours out black which is a good sign. Fills the glass with darkness and brown head that has great retention.

Smoke, fudge, and coffee dominate for the most part. Hard to tell it spent time in a bourbon barrel. Still a good aroma.

Luckily the barrel is more present on the taste. I get some straight up excellent bourbon flavor. Smoke, chocolate, and roastiness like in the aroma comes through.

Really smooth with soft carbonation and a hefty medium body.

Pretty great beer here.

Poured from 22 oz. bomber.

A: Pitch black. About as dark as it could be. 3/4 finger mocha head. Bubbles form atop the middle of the pillow-y head. This one looks very nice in the glass. Not that the beer is bad by any means, but the appearance is definitely it's strongest attribute.

S: First things first: Sticky, burnt sugar. Barrel is definitely there - bourbon and oak are present. Dark roast and marshmallow. Above all else, I come back to the sweetness - a bread-y sweetness. Think Hawaiian sweet roll; really. As the beer warms (20 minutes in)...i pick up a subtle smokiness.

N: The nose didn't lie. Sweetness hits first - but it's more vanilla on the palate. Bourbon follows. The finish is a nice bitter. Really, the taste is not as complex as the nose. Sweet. Bourbon. Bitter.

M: Medium bodied, I guess. Could stand to be fuller. Not NEAR as good as the appearance led me to believe it would be. Nothing special.

O: A "good" BA stout. Another nice BA offering from a brewery who MUST have the largest barrel room in existence. Good beer to pick up and enjoy if you're in Texas. Not a must have if you're out of state.

$ 16.11 (Including tax)/bomber = $ 0.732/oz at Central Market, Alamo Heights, TX
Bottled 03/15/16 at 42 degrees into a hand washed and dried JK snifter, allowed to warm to 50 degrees
Aroma – roasted malt, brown sugar
Head small (Maximum two cm, aggressive pour), light brown, creamy, diminishing to a two mm ring and thin layer
Lacing – mostly none. A total of two tiny islands of tiny bubbles
Body – dark brown/black, opaque
Flavor – roasted malt, chocolate, not really any bourbon, starts and ends slightly sweet. A delayed alcohol hit dimly glows in the stomach, yielding only a glimmer of heat.
Palate – full, almost creamy, lively carbonation

Passable but not desirable. An average RIS at best, certainly not worth the price.

Appearance 3.5, Aroma 3.25, Flavor 3.25, Palate 4, Overall 3

This beer blew my socks, shoes and pants off. Easily the best Russian Imperial Stout that I've ever had. Cheers!

poured from 22oz bomber into snifter. Nice black pour. Khaki-colored head that left minimal lacing. Smell was of chocolate, smoke, burnt coffee grinds. Taste was what you would come to expect of a Clown Shoes' stout. I just thought this one had a bit too much smokiness to my liking. Feel was nice, medium balanced with lower carbonation. Overall, not a bad CS stout, just not one of their better ones, IMO.

Pours like motor oil with a chill-hazed ebony with much effervescence & a pinky of mocha colored head. Viscous, no head retention or lacing

S: Vanilla, carob, charred grain & raisin

T: Follows the nose, raisin, & Baker's Chocolate, plus a little Bourbon up front, a little booze warmth. Vanilla, caramel & Bourbon as this warms. Vanilla, Bourbon, & little booze burn & char in the finish, a touch of plum

MF: Fairly chewy, slight carbonation, warming

Great offering, well worth a go, ABV is well hidden, like it better than the unleaded version; as usual Clownshoes kicks arse...

Bottled 15March2016
Poured into a tulip glass – deep, murky black with minimal head and scant effervescence. Smells with strong vanilla, bourbon notes mingled with the classic Unidragon leather, cocoa and barnyard. Taste is sweet malts forward, cocoa, smoke and leather with transition to vanilla and bourbon notes – woody, wet burlap and barnyard notes with a very faint bitter counterpoint as final notes. Alcohol well hidden – Thick and a bit syrupy in texture with a somewhat tacky residue – not unpleasant – and pretty typical for a stout of this body.
Overall, this is a tasty bourbon barrel stout – all the attributes of Unidragon that I love, coupled with the bourbon notes. I came across this gem at a liquor store in Killeen TX – I had no idea that it had been discontinued – I’ll have to go back and stock up on this gem – I imagine cellaring will only improve this quality, complex stout.

22 ounce bottle poured into a snifter

A: Pours black with a mocha colored head, no head retention, just a few group of bubbles floating around, no lacing, not seeing much carbonation, looks really thick and oily.

A: Bourbon, hints of dark fruits and dark chocolate, hints of coffee, aromas are subtle, not getting any alcohol on the nose.

T: First impression is that this is very balanced, drinkable, and smooth. Hit of bourbon up front, vanilla, some dark fruits like figs and dates, dark chocolate sweetness, touch of roasted coffee and roasted malts, alcohol is noticeable but doesn't make the beer taste bad, aftertaste is of more dark fruits, there is some oakiness in the aftertaste, very tasty and enjoyable.

M: For a bourbon barrel aged stout this is incredibly smooth and drinkable. It is a little hot but its a full bodied beer.

O: Very impressed, love the taste, love the mouthfeel, it's dangerously drinkable for being such a big beer. I would love to age one to see where it's at in a year but it's drinking really good now.
