Crunkle Sam, tired of being a mer anomaly as a most refreshing summertime Barleywine Ale, targeted a German beer style and bastardized it. He had us brew a traditional Kolsch, but made us add all natural mango flavor. Warning: This beer is NOT Reinheitsgebot!

In a snifter the beer is a hazy gold color with just a tiny head.

The aroma is sweet fruit and pepper.

Mango and orange taste, with a little bit of habanero heat.

A nice beer for a hot summer day.

Poured from a 12 ounce can with a best by date of 1/31/2024 into a shaker pint glass.
L - Looks like apple cider with minimal white head.
S - Smells of mangoes.
T - Tastes of mangoes with a slight maltiness.
F - Medium body and minimal carbonation.
O - Not a bad kolsch, but I would have liked a little more carbonation. Maybe I got a bad can.

12 oz can enjoy by date 1/31/24 into a Kolsch glass.
L: SRM 3 Pours gold caramel color with a slight bit of yeast, good steady large carbonation bubbles, a thin white head that quickly recedes to edge foam, not much lacing.
S: Notes of fruit bread, mango, background malts, pastry dough.
T: Mango, caramel malts, citrus, a hint of grains, green apple, light melon rind, has a little hop bite, it is lightly pale in the finish & linger. Has a bitter fruit aftertaste.
F: Lightly crisp, medium to medium-light bodied feel with a medium-length taper down to a fairly dry finish.
O: A smooth drinking Kolsch with moderately rich mango and mixed fruit tastes. It has a gently slippery feel and is quite pleasant tasting. Fruity and easy drinking and the tastes are redolent of panettone. It is good in its style.

Oh boy, natural flavors added. I’ll try to be impartial

A- light thin golden, saved by big fluffy head
S-Malt backbone, butter, biscuit, and lots of mango. Ok clown shoes that’s better than I expected
T-the fruit dominates the front and back, but in a good way . Doesn’t taste as artificially flavored as it probably is, good bready malt core.

M- yowza. This is where it excels. Extremely pleasant amount of carbonation on the tongue, smooth, just full bodied enough. It’s truly outstanding in this capacity

O- I came into this not expecting to like it due to bad experiences with fruit juice posing as “hazy ipas.” This is actually pretty doggone good. Also I do have to give them props for prominently displaying the natural flavors added instead of trying to hide it, even going so far as to say the beer is definitely not Reinheitsgebot.

From the can in the 2023 Christmas set, it pours a light golden color with a modest white head that soon reduces to a thin layer with spotty lacing. The nose gets a light bready malt with some mango. The mouth immediately notices the mango, followed by some bitterness. Body is medium.

Slightly hazy golden yellow body with moderate to sparse carbonation. Tall white head that doesn’t stick around too long, but it does leave sticky and stringy lacing.

The aroma is not too strong, but it is fronted by the mango aroma. Teasing the aroma pulls out a sweet bready aspect and other indistinct fruit, perhaps even floral, aromas. A pleasant and inviting combination.

The initial flavor is sweet bread with the mango following immediately. A bittering begins in the middle and carries through to the finish. The mango and bittering linger on in the aftertaste. The middle flavors have a bit of a sweet character but the finish is drier. The bittering no doubt helps with that.

The mouth feel is thin.

Overall, I didn’t think the combination was all that successful. The bittering, while actually mild enough, just did not seem to blend well with the sweet bread and the mango flavors. In its own way, it was enjoyable enough, but it won’t be a repeat purchase.

Again, I am rating these flavored kölsch-styles as they present themselves, not against the standard of the kölsch style.

A very good fruit beer. Very sour and a bit bitter. I don't think it really tastes like mango more like unripe peaches.
