Once upon a time a man walked into a bar where a friend of ours was tending the taps. He tried to order an Eagle Claw Fist, but got it wrong, and asked for an Evil Crawfish. When we heard the story, after much laughter, we knew one day we'd make the beer. Finally, here it is, built off of ECF, but cleaner, meaner, less bitter, and dry hopped with Citra, Simcoe, Mosaic and Nelson Sauvin.

Not sure as days short of 2019 whether age hurt this beer or not - brewed in April (or July?) 2016 - actually do not feel hurt too badly as still quite enjoyable. Pours a deep burnt orange red colour with a bit of haze and 1-2 fingers off white head. Aroma is sweet caramel malt with pine notes and touch of grapefruit rind. Taste starts sweet with a burnt caramel malt sense, but follows with a slightly harsh piney bitterness with earthy notes. Medium full mouthfeel with a good amount of lingering bitterness and warming esophageal booziness. Interesting to try this fresh as really got more of a hoppy barley wine effect - good but not clearly intended.

Thin foaming but nice lacing. Somewhat metallic and smokey smell. Taste is a bit too burnt sugar but pleasabt overall. Feels a bit boozy which is a bit unexpected for the style (unless you anticipate ahead of time from perhaps name and abv...) but came as a nice surprise as it was far more full bodied than your avg red ale. Overall a pleasant drink.

A: Pours a deep red color with 2 fingers of head that fades down to a thin cap that leaves sheets of lacing

S: Fruity and earthy hops combine with a caramel maltiness to make a very balanced nose. Some toffee and light pine in there as well

T: Follows the nose. Starts off with the fruity and earthy hops and goes into a moderately sweet caramel and toffee maltiness. Lightly bitter. Finishes with lingering earthy and woody tones from the malt

M: Medium bodied with low-moderate carbonation. On the smoother side

O: A solid imperial red that is extremely well balanced and very easy to drink given the 9%. Worth a try if you like reds
