Notes / Commercial Description:
Why are Miracle Mike and his Kangaroo, Boomer, being chased by blue laser beam shooting cupcakes and two giant layer cake mother ships? Let's just say it's an intergalactic walkabout turned ding bat wonky. To commemorate this weird alter-dimensional variation of Space Cake, we used Vic Secret hops from Australia to dry hop, giving a bright grapefruit note to our favorite DIPA. Enjoy, Jackaroos and Jillaroos!

12/9/15 bottling date

A: Slightly hazy amber pour. Mid-sized frothy tan head. Decent head retention and some soapy tendrils of lacing.

S: Pineapple and pine mostly I'd say. Some spicy herbal notes too.

T: Oh yeah, tons of pineapple now. Soft and sweet. Maybe hints of grapefruit? Pine and herbal flavors kick in more towards the middle and finish. Sort of a spicy, piney aftertaste.

M: Medium bodied, smooth and easy drinking.

O: Nice variation of Clown Shoes' best IPA. I don't know what Vic Secret hops are but I'm guessing it's all the pineapple all over the place.

Canned on 8/23/17. Poured from can into glass at home.

Look: Pours amber orange in color with decent sized white head. Very low clarity. No visible floating materials.

Smell: Hoppy aroma. Unspecific fruit, citrus and West Coast IIPA dankness. Sweet caramel malt aroma that hints at a higher alcohol level.

Taste: More specific hop flavor in the taste than the aroma; candied orange, lemon peel and dank pine. More caramel malt sweetness and light biscuit. Hint of alcohol at the finish. Medium bitterness.

Feel: Medium full body. Somewhat creamy. Medium carbonation. Sticky, sweet finish with small amount of alcohol character.

Overall: A good example of a classic IIPA. The hop aroma and flavor are a bit lacking but that may be due to the age of the can. The bright grapefruit notes supposed to come from dry hopping with the secret Australian hops was not especially noticeable either. An overall good beer, but appears to be past its prime.

A hazy gold (SRM 7) pour produces a 3" off-white foam cap that takes 5 minutes to reduce to a sticky 1/2" film. Continuous streams of very fine bubbles slowly rise from the bottom of the glass. Luxurous aromas of citrus, orange, melon, tropical fruit, bread crumb and a hint of earthiness flow from the glass. Rich moist cakey caramel bread flavors wrap around tropical fruit and melon flavors with malt growing by mid-palate and then the fruit return with an assertive grapefruit rind bitterness. While the hop flavors and bitterness are medium high the malt flavors are big enough to tame them and soften any rough edges without reducing their featured status. While slightly sweet up front the hops squeeze it towards dry and in the end, the bitterness hangs. The beer clears to bright as it warms. Vic Secret Space Cake has a very creamy body, full and rich with soft, medium carbonation. For aw much alcohol that is listed on the bottle, the alcohol warming and alcohol flavors are mild. Nothing is hot or harsh. A big, muscular beer to be savored.

Very attractive golden brew.

Aroma and flavor go hand-in-hand with this one. It's at first reminiscent of the rest of the Space Cake series, with candied fruit and herbs. This one brings a bit more in the way of peppery and dank notes, however. Still a touch sweet, likely owing to the malt proportion and the high ABV.

This is a decently solid brew, but it's not world class, and I have to admit that it starts to get old most of the way through a single glass. I have a better impression of it than I did Lemon Drop Space Cake, for sure.

How do you make the already excellent Space Cake better? Add the new big thing in hops, Vic Secret, to the mix. The malt bill seems to be unchanged as it seems to be neutral, not sweet or dry, but carries the hop flavors well. In addition to the dank Mosaic goodness we all know, the dry hop adds a lot of grapefruit aroma and flavor. Compliments the tropical fruit flavor well.

Blood orange, and semi-turbid when held to the light. As I stare at the glass further, it appears as if the body was dipped in honey. The beer is capped by a half inch of foam that retains moderately and leaves spotty lacing in its wake. Smells of booze, candied sugar, oranges, malt and faint grass invade my nasal cavity. The taste follows with ruby red grapefruit up front, ripe melon mid-palate, and another blast of grapefruit on the finish. The feel is semi-chewy up front, bitter, prickly, and finishes dry, albeit a bit too abruptly for me. I'm not a huge fan of Clown Shoes, but I do enjoy the Space Cake variants. I look forward to future versions that utilize different hops. Cheers.

I'm gonna open up by saying I like this more than their regular Space Cake, and I'm not necessarily a fan of Vic Secret hops - actually, I have no frame of reference for this hop's profile at all - maybe this is the beer that changes that...

Deep gold brew, good clarity, and as big a head of off-white foam as you want...

The nose and tastes of this beer are just awesome - fruity, herbal, and piney - but bright and light with passion fruit and pineapple, underscored with some resin and earthy herbs... Smooth and soft, plushly carbonated with a medium-weight kinda feel...

I'll be going back for more...

I'll admit I haven't been a big follower of Clown Shoes in general but when I saw this bottle of Vic Secret Space Cake I thought well I'll give it a try. It poured a golden slightly orange color into my glass. the nose was pleasant some nice fruit and floral aromas to the nose. The taste was smooth some citrus hints with a nice piney finish. Didn't see anything that felt like the 10% ABV list on the bottle. I'll have to search out and find a couple more of these as IMO it is a good DIPA.

Canned on 8/15/17. 16oz can poured into a tulip. Pours a hazy glowing golden with bubbles racing upwards; creamy white head that slowly falls leaving great thick retention and sticky lacing. The aromas are balanced between tropical fruits and malts. Some floral notes in the mix. The aromas aren't intense, but it still smells really nice. The aromas open up as it slightly warms. The flavors basically follow the nose. Solid burst of tropical fruits. It's slightly warm, but not hot or boozy. Some sticky resinous characteristics. Solid malt backbone, but the hop flavors and hop bitterness aren't diminished at all. Subtle hints of caramel. There's a sweetness to it, but nothing cloying or over the top. Mild spiciness. Mouthfeel is nice. It's full-bodied and slick with moderate carbonation. Dangerously drinkable.

This is a nice DIPA. The Australian hops come through. The craftsmanship is on point. It's fun to drink. Well done. Definitely worth checking out if you come across it.

Pours a slight hazed golden color with nice lacing and head. Smell was pineapple and stone fruit, taste was great pineapple front and center with tangerine and mango, towards the end i got a touch of pine hop all was balanced nicely with caramel malts, mouth feel was smooth with ABV not present had some sweetness with some lingering bitterness, this is a great 2IPA, easy to kill the bomber, but one you will feel.

Poured from a 22oz can into an imperial pint glass.

A: The beer is a bright amber color with a large foamy off-white head that fades slowly and leaves a thick lace on the glass.

S: The aroma is an excellent blend of floral hops, very fruity citrus and caramelized malts.

T: The taste starts out very sweet with strong flavors of fruity citrus and caramel up front. Then a strong earthy hops bitterness comes in. The malt character is hearty but not too heavy and brings a good balance. The after-taste is slightly hoppy and slightly sweet.

M: Crisp and smooth, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is slightly sticky.

O: Very tasty, goes down quite easily, not too filling, good kick, good representation of style, this is a nice 2IPA to drink for a long time.
