Another great BA/high ABV beer from Clown Shoes.
Golden russet color.
Subtle smell of bourbon, dark fruit, oak.
Letting it warm in my tulip glass for a good half hour, I get the taste of dark fruits, bourbon, oak, leather.
A great English Barleywine, aged in Bourbon barrels from Clown Shoes.

Not a particularly attractive beer. A murky dark cider appearance. No head at all.
Things get better. Bourbon and caramel aroma, some dark fruit.
Bourbon up front, followed by caramel and toffee. Raisins also.
Incredibly smooth. Although the bourbon was most noticeable, it did not dominate.
Great beer!

Poured into a teku pint. Bottleneck says Bottled On 05/02/16.

A- Pours a medium brown color with a 1/2 inch light tan head that retains decently before becoming a thick ring around the edge of the glass and a half sheet of sheer surface foam. Resilient lacing leaves a broken ring behind.

S- Booze, oak, brown sugar, vanilla and a hint of milk chocolate.

T- Solid dose of bourbony vanilla sweetness plus some toasty malt and oak. The ABV is insanely well-hidden in this as there's so much balance between the barrel and the base beer that I can sip and sip and feel so little on my palate while feeling a significant burn in my gut. Woody aftertaste. There's also a bit of a hop bite which rounds things out nicely.

M- A bit of slickness but not as creamy as I had hoped. Medium carbonation and a body leaning toward the fuller side.

O- Not a ton of complexity here, but the remarkable way that the beer keeps the alcohol in check is enough to gain recommendation from me.

This beer pours a slightly cloudy ruddy ruby with a small head. The aroma, it must be said, is like freshly baked oatmeal raisin cookies - raisin, baking spices, date, fig, vanilla, and cinnamon. The flavor follows along these same lines, full of rich spice, dried fruit, and general yumminess. The mouthfeel is full, but not too rich or cloying. Overall this is another excellent big barrel aged beer from Clown Shoes - please keep cranking these out.

A quick pour yields a think, thin, off white frothy cap. A murky, muddled, amber colored reddish liquid fills the glass. The aroma is of candied dark fruits but the bourbon is most pronounced. Flavors of sweet dark fruits, caramel, oak, and once again the bourbon forces it's way to the forefront. Very thick feel on the palate, coats, and goes down easily for 12.5% abv. Overall, this barreled aged barleywine hits the spot and is quite enjoyable. Enjoy!

Enjoyed from the 22 oz bottle in a snifter. This nice ale pours a rusty copper color with a modest head of off white foam that settles to a thin ring with subtle lacing. Nose of bourbon, toffee, oak, and vanilla. Flavors lightly exceed the nose with bourbon touched with light chocolate and caramel malts, subtle smoke, light berry notes with warmth on the rear and sides of blackberry, and even strong boozy warmth. Nice mouth feel, coating, slick and smooth with a warm full finish. Nice.

Cheers

22 oz. bomber, snifter

A – Deep russet to mahogany brown but very clear, light still passes through it. The beer is somewhat still but does present a thin off-white to very light sepia-tan head, with short retention. Settles with a few bubbles hanging out on top, a bit of lacing.

S – The nose on this is filled with bourbon, vanilla, caramel, brown sugar. A bit of coffee cake and raisin bread on the back end. Some fruity esters from the alcohol, perhaps a bit from hops though not much clear hop character here.

T – Vanilla and caramel, bourbon notes, fruity esters again. Some light herbal hop impression, very minor. A ton of malty sweetness.

M – Very full-bodied, sweet and thick, with low carbonation. Sweetness lingers on the tongue, though there is a clear bite from the bourbon barrel, tannic. Not as balanced as it could be. Surprisingly little alcohol warmth considering the ABV.

O – This is a very good barrel-aged barleywine, resisting the temptation to amp up the hops. Would go great with a fire and a cigar.
