22oz bottle from Mink's (Marietta, GA). 6.98. No apparent bottling date, which is strange from my track record with Clown Shoes. Served in a Clown Shoes snifter.

Pours a bright, golden yellow with about two fingers of white head. The fluffy froth fades slowly, leaving ample rocky retention, a full collar and wide swaths of lacing.

Smells of pine, rice, flower petals and pepper. Decent but far from inspiring.

Tastes... different. Rice, mint, lemon zest, pepper, earthy rye, cat piss and something that reminds me of gasoline when it hits the palate. Perhaps not overtly bad but I don't find it at all appealing.

Medium feel with fizzy carbonation. Bitter, dry finish.

You'd be hard pressed to find a bigger supporter of Clown Shoes than me. They brew several different styles incredibly well and it just pains me that this beer has the Clown Shoes name on it. From the cheap label used (thin paper instead of high quality foil) and the lack of the typically obvious bottling date on the neck I was a bit skeptical but purchased anyway based on consisitently good experiences in the past. This comes across as a "me too" release while hoppy lagers are popular and just doesn't do enough to compare favorably with the growing crowd. It gives third party candidates a bad name and I would advise to avoid.

*Important edit- within days of posting this review Gregg Berman (the head clown himself!) messaged me. This is apparently one of the first brews done in a different brewery and they are still working some of the kinks out. He even sent me a little something to make up for my less than ideal experience. Super awesome act of amazing customer service. Add that to the list of reasons that I love Clown Shoes!

In a pint glass the beer was a gold color with a small white head.
Herbal, grassy aroma. Some sweet malt.
Bitter herbal taste. Earthy. A touch of malt.
The hops dominate this beer, not always favorably.

Pours an effervescent gold with 3 fingers of eggshell colored head. Stellar lacing & very good head retnetion

S: Grassy, grainy, a little lemon

T: Follows the nose, a little lemon & floral hop & dryness & a little bready sweetness up front. Some lemon & grassiness, plus dryness as this warms, a little lime as well & nice bready sweetness & a little booze warmth. Finishes crisp, bready & grassy with just a little lime

MF: Medium body, firm carbonation, good balance

Drinks fairly easy, well worth a try, would buy this if in a 4 or 6 pack format

Clear golden color with a finger of head that settled to a thick cap. Heavy lacing is left down the glass. Aroma of pepper, grass, herbs, and crackers. The beer is really dry with little sweetness to balance the hoppy bitterness. A bit astringent and difficult to drink. Herbal flavors dominate with notes of pepper and grass. Light body and nicely carbonated belies the ABV.

From the 650 ml. bottle. No date. Sampled on September 9, 2016.

The pour is yellow to light amber with a long lasting white head.

The aroma is grainy malt forward for sure with a note of tobacco or herbal notes. Low to no hop profile but any hops I get are earthy.

Medium body. Relatively smooth.

I still pick up this pipe tobacco character in the taste with a mile overripe fruit hop finish that I did not expect. But it lingers some at the finish.

Looks - this beer has a delicious golden tone. It's gorgeous! It's got a touch of cloudiness, which only adds to the beauty. The lacing looks divine. I love lacing, and this glass of beer looks amazing.
Smells - wonderful fresh Lager scent, bright and zesty. If I don't like the taste of this - I can just smell it and be made happy.
Taste - very strong wheaty, nutty, dry, bitter. Described as "hoppy," I was expecting an IPA taste, but this flavor, however, is … GRASSY! That's it. It's grassy.
Feels - a tad heavy actually, like it might overwhelm if I went too fast downing it, which is not necessarily bad, but "drinkable" is a characteristic this lush hold in high esteem, so this score will be brutal.
Overall - that "i want another" feeling isn't there, but I wouldn't turn one down either. In fact, being offered a Clown Shoes is not an every day occurrence.

22oz bottle. Pours a translucent golden color with a half inch of head. Some lacing. The aroma is grassy hops and hay with some light fruity notes. Tangerine and mango. The taste is more of those soft fruit notes. Mango, peach and tangerine followed up by some hay and herbal/grassy hops. Peach and tangerine at the finish. Dry and oily mouthfeel. Mild alcohol presence. Good amount of bitterness. Overall, good enough.

Good time to release a Third Party candidate, too bad i's only a beer.

Pours a light fizzy foamy almost 1 finger head that fades at a med pace, decent messy lacing, very clear pilsner pale color.

Nose some warm lagering aromas, minerality, faint sulfury chalk note but not a big sulfur just like a chalky version that's kinda like it, herbal grassy hop notes, herbal tea almost, little fruity lager notes, little sweet amber malt.

Taste brings big fruity hops, really interesting hop character, one of the newer hops I can't label, maybe hallertau blanc, a musty note with grassy noble like floral hops, a bit of a musty fruit, white grape skin, and some mild banana perhaps coconut notes as well, little herbal tea, earthy notes, with mild sweet amber malt, and back to that chalky mineral note in the lagering, and almost a very faint sulfury touch. Finish is drier, fair bitterness, more herbal grassy hops, a touch floral and fruity, touch more minerality.

mouth is med bod, a little softer, decent carb.

Overall well it would have been a great beer, nice and unique fun hop character, light lager amber malts, soft-ish, except for the not so great lagering component, that minerality chalky faint sulfur unfortunately.

Pale yellow in color. Clear in appearance. 2016 has a lot of black tea flavors. Some fruit, melon. Light bodied. Short, fading bitterness. It's ok.

Gold color with a touch of haze. Small but lasting head. The lace is a combination of lattice and rings.

Mild aroma of mostly pale malt. Mild.

Very unusual taste to start. I get pale malt, naturally, but also a berry fruitiness. The finish is straight up bitter. Decent body with moderate carbonation. The aftertaste leans bitter. Overall, I'd say this is a sweetbitter in contrast to the bittersweet moniker.
