I will start by saying that my bottle was dated Sept 2016, so it may not be representative of a fresh sample. Pours a cloudy amber color with a thick foamy head. Head retention and lacing are both excellent. Good start. Get some piney hops on the aroma. Malty and caramel. Same goes for the taste. There is a caramel malt up front followed by a big hoppy bite, but nothing on the back end but some fizzing. Somewhat crackery. Mild astringency. Medium bodied with heavy carbonation. Would like to try a fresher sample, but looks like I won't get to because it is retired.

Poured from a 22-ounce bottle a slightly hazy sunset orange under a thin (1/4") white head which leaves splotchy lace. Aroma is malt, cracker, mild citrus and tropical fruits. Flavor follows the nose. Medium body and semi-moderate carbonation. Finishes mildly bitter and malty. Eh.

Tasted in a Spiegelau IPA glass from a 1 pint 6 ounce bottle on February 4, 2017. The sweet malt overpowers the hops. Not horrible, but I won't buy it again.

Pours a clear yellow golden color with white head. Citrus, herbal floral notes, pine, and some hay on the nose; follows onto the palate. Medium bodied. Finishes with pine and citrus. Not overly complicated but good.

Appearance: pours a hazy orange color with a short lasting 1" head.

Smell: orange and some mild earthiness comes through to the nose.

Taste: caramel, orange, some fruit sweetness, and a mild bitterness makes up a decent IPA.

Mouthfeel: medium bodied beer. Crisp from start to finish. Long lasting orange aftertaste.

Overall: an easy to consume IPA that is straightforward but not overly exciting.

22oz bottle (@ 6.85% ABV) - it's a shame we couldn't have got this one a little while earlier, to put back on that fucked-up Tuesday a few weeks ago.

This beer pours a slightly hazy, medium golden amber colour, with three fat-cat fingers of puffy, loosely foamy, and bubbly ecru head, which leaves some decent gear chain lace around the glass as it slowly sinks out of sight.

It smells of mixed domestic citrus peel, bready and doughy caramel malt, weaker toffee notes, some lightly buttered white toast, a muddled tropical fruitiness, and further leafy, piney, and well-perfumed floral hop bitters. The taste is gritty and grainy caramel malt, some watery orange, red grapefruit, and tangerine citrus, more white crackers/toast (sans the butter now, thank Jebus), a still hard to parse exotic fruit bowl, subtle hints of wayward son yeastiness, and more laid-back piney, grassy, and musty floral green hoppiness.

The carbonation is quite light on its fizzy and frothy feet, the body a so-so middleweight, and generally smooth, no real threats to the status quo detected or inferred here. It finishes off-dry, the wishy-washy caramel malt carrying on amongst the lingering detritus of citrusy, tropical, and verdant hop esters alike.

Overall, I don't presume to know exactly what this contract brewery was going for with this particular blend of hops (Mosaic, Motueka, and El Dorado), but it comes off as sort of plain and unassuming, and not the brash West Coast IPA that was implied. Easy enough to drink, I suppose, and with just enough wowee sauce to be worthy as a coping mechanism against inanity.

Golden orange in color. Fairly hazy in appearance. Fruity, melon, and kiwi. Some citrus. Good level of sweetness. Solid. if they put this into 4 packs, I could get behind it.

Poured a clear copper body with billowing head that left lace patches everywhere. Juicy, citric, soapy hop aroma with hints of grapefruit. Soapy, dry, bitter, earthy, citric hop presence that has a touch of malty sweetness on the end. More hoppy than malty but not a bad beer at all and worth having.

Clear amber color with a finger of head that settled to a thin film. Moderate amount of lacing is left down the glass. Aroma of tropical fruit, orange zest, and fruity sweetness. I feel like I have tasted this IPA many times over the years. Does not seem like the new school hops really changed an IPA recipe from 10 years ago. Notes of citrus, particularly orange that plays against caramel sweetness. Medium body and appropriately carbonated. Not that impressed with this East Coast type of IPA but it does have some good qualities.

A: Pours a golden orange color with 2 fingers of head that fades down to a thin cap

S: A good deal of citrus, especially orange, up front along with a solid maltiness that lends some sweetness. Some light earthiness in there as well

T: Follows the nose. Starts off with some citrus and earthiness and goes into a bit of caramel maltiness and light bitterness. Finishes with more earthiness

M: Medium bodied with moderate carbonation

O: A solid IPA that is easy to drink and not overwhelming on any front. The hops could deliver a bit more in the taste, but it's still solid

A: Poured into a nonic pint to a golden orange topped by a dense and slightly soapy two finger off white head that retains well and leaves decent lacing
S: Smells of caramel and toasted malts, citrusy and herbal hops with just a little bit of pine.
T: Taste is nice and herbal and earthy hops up front with a little toasted malt and caramel sweetness. Some juicy citrus and pine comes in toward the middle of things . Swallow is oily and resinous with some more earthy hops and toasted malt.
M: This beer has a medium body with a soft and almost prickly level of carbonation with a refreshing oily hop finish
O: Overall this beer looks smalls and tastes the part. The hop notes are nice and the malt is there in balance as well. Definitely one to try while it's fresh if you're into IPAs.

22 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 9/12/2016. Pours lightly hazy deep medium orange/light copper color with a 2 finger dense and fluffy off white head with good retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of big lemon, lime, tangerine, pineapple, peach, mango, papaya, passion fruit, melon, pear, berry, light pepper/pine, honey, light caramel, toasted bread, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of bright/juicy citrus/tropical hops and moderate bready malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big lemon, lime, tangerine, pineapple, peach, mango, papaya, passion fruit, melon, pear, berry, light pepper/pine, honey, light caramel, toasted bread, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Moderate pine/herbal/spicy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of lemon, lime, tangerine, pineapple, peach, mango, papaya, passion fruit, melon, pepper, pine, toasted bread, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of bright/juicy citrus/tropical hops and moderate bready malt flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance, and zero astringent hop flavors after the finish. Moderate dryness from bitterness, increasing through the glass. medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, moderately sticky, and lightly creamy/grainy/resinous balanced mouthfeel that is great. Zero warming alcohol as exprected of 6.85%. Overall this is an outstanding IPA! All around awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of bright/juicy citrus/tropical hops and moderate bready malt flavors; very easy to drink with the very smooth bitterness. A highly enjoyable offering.

Pours a light copper color with a 1 finger beige head and nice lacing. smell is dank and tropical with sweet caramel. A juicy floral and garden hop start with citrus and fruit notes it finishes with a large amount of caramel malts , like an imperial red would. Muoth feel was sweet and malty with overtook the hops. A good brew but to much like an amber for me, to much malt.

Poured a golden reddish copper color in a Spiegelau glass with a four finger head which slowly resolved.

Excellent aroma: pine, spicy, citrus, tropical fruit, most like Mosaic hops.

Taste follows the aroma: spicy, piney, citrus, tropical fruit, wonderfully balanced hop profile.

Another excellent beer by Clown Shoes. Start colder at 45°.

Rich, juicy hop aroma. Grapefruit flesh, tangerine, and pine. Honey-like sweetness. Toasty, bready malts. Floral and spicy. A touch of caramel. Orange pith and pineapple.

Burnt orange color with an off-white head. Nice lacing and good retention.

Aggressive citrus peel bitterness upfront washes into juicy fruits and caramel malts. Snappy and bright. Blood oranges, grapefruit, pine needles. Spicy, tropical, and juicy.

Medium full body with medium high carbonation. Juicy, resiny hops. Bitter and dry. Washes away pretty clean.

Great complex and drinkable.

Good one -finger head to start. This settles to a layer of lasting bubbles. Wide ring of lace after the initial sip, streaks thereafter. Nearly clear, just a light haze. Dirty gold color.

Flowery hop nose. A bit green. No notable malt or alcohol.

Smooth, caramel malt start. The hop comes in gently with a bit of a weedy bite. Rich body but with ample carbonation. The aftertaste lingers a long time but only moderately strong.

Quick review: Moderately opaque rusty orange with a nice ol' head. Lovely earthy-tea flavor meets dank tropical fruit and grapefruit. Nothing crazy, but definitely above average.

22oz bottle from ClownShoesDreams (thanks Gregg, you rock!). Bottled 8/31/16. Served in a Clown Shoes snifter.

Pours a deep amber with a finger and a half of pale head. The thick froth recedes to a cottony veneer and wide collar, leaving large patches of thick lacing.

Smells sweet and mildly fruity with melon, tropical fruit, gummies and cake.

Tastes of mildly bitter earthy fruits. Berries, strong tea, melon pulp, bread and vague mint. It is a different flavor profile from the typical IPA but it works.

Medium full feel with fluffy carbonation. The aftertaste is like unsweetened melon berry tea.

More solid work from Clown Shoes. With its earthy, strong tea-like bitterness and leanings towards more rind and pulp than juice character, Presumptive Nominee may not exhibit the typical profile I look for in an IPA but it works really well. The hops are bright and flavorful and rest easily on the pleasantly sweet bed of malts.
