22oz bottle poured into a tulip
A- pours deep brown in color with a one-finger creamy khaki colored head that has great retention
S- initial aroma is quite smoky, it almost smells peated, lots of charred malt, even some mesquite smoke. Undertones of chocolate, cognac, dark fruits and rum barrel that adds brown sugar and molasses
T- smoked malt up front gives a mesquite smoky wood flavor up front, followed by chocolate, caramel and toffee. Mid-palate brings out rummy notes of candied figs, raisins, black strap molasses and brown sugar. The finish gives oak, cracked pepper, and cognac. Lingers of smoke and dark fruits
M- medium body with moderate carbonation leads to a creamy mouthfeel that continues into a warming silky finish
O- this blend works well, the barleywine keeps it bright and the smoke compliments it well

A: Poured into a snifter to a black beer topped by a dense and slightly rocky half finger of tan head which fades quickly to a collar around the edge of the glass with minimal lacing
S: Smells of smoke, bitter dark chocolate, oak, hints of funky rum, and espresso.
T: Taste is slight toffee up front before some rum barrel comes in, light dark fruits, smoke, chocolate, espresso, light charred wood. The palate on this one is odd because there are times where the flavors just seem to be muted before the next note comes shining through. On the swallow there's more rum, chocolate, toffee sweetness, caramel, smoke, and coffee with some lingering funky rum.
M: This beer is fairly full in body with a silky and creamy feel on the palate. Carbonation is low but adequate for the style while the beer has a drying finish.
O: Overall this was a really good blend. Interesting flavors with a lot of complexity. Good barrel influence as well which made this an interesting drink. Worth trying if you find this on a shelf or if this one comes back for an encore.

22oz bottle. Stamped bottling date is '10/24/16'.
Black colored body, with some ruby back lit highlights. Thick, one finger tan head, which is resilient. Leaves a few spots of lacing.
Aroma of roasted malts, slight char, chocolate, dark fruits, toffee, and the presence of rum barrel.
Taste of dark roasted malts mixed in with dark fruits. Rum barrel, along with toffee and vanilla.
Slightly less than medium mouth feel. Very good carbonation.
Interesting blend of beer styles and still quite expressive at its advanced age.

22 ounce bottle into a snifter. Bottled 10/28/16, had 3/3/17.
Pours a dark brown, opaque, with a small quickly dissipating head and some loose, soapy lacing. Smells pretty good- rum, plums, yeast, malt, raisins, figs, prunes, toffee, tobacco, some cocoa. The taste follows pretty much along- roasted malt, raisins, rum, plums, figs, oak, caramel, light vanilla and tobacco, chocolate- more as it warms. Smooth, solid medium to full body, well carbonated.
The stout- barleywine combo works well. Really good flavors and aroma, the rum barrels are great.
